      Exactly : just look at who he s had to beat to pull this off ???
      It's the main issue if have with Djokovic and to a lessor extent Nadal , laying claim as the goat ; is the lack of decent competition in the men's game since 2019; ie Djokovic barely faced a player inside the top 20 for his 2023 US & AO open wins ( Rublev semi & Tsipas final ) - first five matches were mostly third rate players well outside the top 20
      With a few exceptions , this has been the case with all the big 3 now big 2 for much of the last 7 yrs or so . They can only beat who's in front of them true - but if the competition is ordinary, like this year US & AO opens - takes lots from their credibility of greatness in my opinion
      Wavrinka and Thiem were easily the best players outside of the big for the last 8 years ; where are all the rest ???

    It's quite surprising that the Australian Open TV channel hasn't uploaded a video of this match with the score displayed in one of the corners of the screen. Having the score on display not only adds significance to each point but also serves as a useful reference point.

      As great as it was he could have played better and destroyed Nadal in this match.
      The commentators were completely wrong. Lots of errors, bad serving and trying to finish points too early cost Stan a lot of points that would have resulted in more breaks.

      On a slower and higher bouncing court, maybe, a strong Nadal would beat Wawrinka. On AO 14 court, no version of Nadal would be able to beat Stan. Nadal relied on his topspin FH into his opponent backhand side but the bounce here is only medium high and Stan always bullied Nadal back with his bombing BH. The AO 14 court is perfect for Wawrinka offensive baseline game.

    Wawrinka was battering Nadal before the first signs of an injury were apparent but it’s Nadal we are talking about, he is the ultimate fighter and could have easily turned the tide of the match if no injury had occurred, despite Wawrinka playing lights out tennis at the time. It’s horrible playing an injured opponent because it completely disrupts your rhythm and it’s not easy on the mind.

    Not a great match. Yes, of course Stan deserved to win this. His first 2 sets were brilliant...but what a sad drop in form for the last 2 sets. His 3rd Grand Slam title (US Open 2016) was, in contrast, Stan at his very best.

  • @hienluong5982
    @hienluong5982 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nadal got beaten in this match has nothing to do with his injury.
    You can see that his topspin forehand could not trouble Wawrinka at all in this match. Stan has the best BH, in this match he had no problem taking the ball on the rise, and attack Nadal every time Nadal tried to hit a cross-court forehand into Stan's backhand (the usual tactic Nadal does against Federer, who struggled hitting backhand against Nadal before 2017). It's a different story on clay with higher bounce, when Stan could not deal with Nadal, but this match was on hard court.
