NEVER SUPPORT THE OUTER PART OF THE PULLEY WHILE PRESSING THE BEARING IN OR OUT...YOU CAN WARP THE PULLEY!!! The best thing to do is support the inner most part of the pulley as close to the bearing as possible. I know this is an old video but I hope this helps someone avoid a huge headache.
Thanks Burner. I had a problem with the middle where the clutch separated from the magnet so I had three segments spinning at once. A gear puller is such an important tool!
Dude, you need to invest in a cordless impact. That 10mm bolt is trivial with an impact gun. Just took mine apart and will replace the bearing based on your awesome advice. Thanks!
Great "How to Video! I'm gonna tackle mine shortly. Fortunately I have a strap wrench, an impact wrench and a 20 ton floor press to complete the job. The seal and bearing driver kits are available for cheap at Harbor Freight Tools. That was one heck of a pipe wrench and gear puller. But as they say, use what you got.
Thank you for the great video. I cannot work out how to remove the ac clutch from the compressor. The video shows you pulling it out by hand. Was there anything else you did to get it loose?
So if i hear chirping noise from ac pulley when car is idling and ac is off there is a problem with ac puley bearings?.....mine car has only 9.000 miles and i can hear it...with ac on i cannot hear the chirping
My ac can be off and only hear it when I’m at a stop but it gets louder when ac is turn on as well as my ac dose not work just got my car a view days ago 2000 Celica Toyota gt. Dose any know know how much it be fix or if it’s still okay to drive
My car making a squeaking noise it like a tapping or thumbing and I noticed when the compressor switch is off the clutch is spinning very slowly and I know when the compressor is not supposed to do that I’m not sure if I need a new pulley clutch or bearing but I notice when my compressor turn on it much queiter compared to when it’s off
Could be that the clutch mechanism friction material is worn down so you are hearing a metal to metal squeal? If so replace the clutch mechanism with bearing included.
@@russtbird yeah I still have to inspect it but that sounds about right. AC works fine and blows cold too it just has these spurts of rattles and squeaks while it’s cut on
I had a noisy a/c when it was on and recently failed and almost sounds like a horn and smelled like burnt rubber or Something similar what could it be?
This is the one I ordered for my Kia. Maybe you can use this to find the one you need. AC Compressor OEM Clutch Bearing NSK 30BD5222DUM6 A/C. NSK is the manufacturer.
You make me want to buy a 986 and drop a lot of money fixing it. Did you have service records when you bought yours? How many miles and what was the condition? You seemed to have done everything to yours. While I don't mind wrenching on the car, I certainly don't want to spend my weekends replacing all the parts on my 986, especially since I plan on tracking it. If and when I do get one, I need to make sure the IMS is fixed, but everything else you've done seems reasonable.
DO IT! It's a mid-engine Porsche for under $10k... who could say no to that ;) I bought my 986 with 75k miles. I have since put a little over 25k miles on her. (I buy cars I want to drive!) She seemed like she was in good condition, but there were basically no service records. Of course a car this old is going to require a little wrenching, I've used my 986 as a dd and have been very pleased, overall.
Burner's Cars given what you know now, would you rather; buy a cheaper 986 with more work and parts need, or pay a premium for a 986 with service records? Also, have you driven a 987? Do you think it's worth the extra money? thanks again
I don't think service records are a must. I've owned my 986 for a little over a year, now, and it seems my initial assessment was correct: the car was well maintained. That said, I think I would recommend a better, more expensive 986 over a cheaper 986 that needs work. I haven't driven the 987, so I can't offer any insight, there. Good luck with your car search, and let me know what you find!
At 3:36, when he flings the clutch, the spacer/washer falls out. That is very crucial. If you follow this video, make sure you don't lose that piece

Daniel O’Hara great advice man!
Thanks for showing how to pull the bearing out, gave me the confidence i needed.

Yeah, I really do!

Just Came here to Thank you for the advise of Hot pulley and Cold Bearing really worked well.
Thank you For the Video
you can hold the pulley with a belt wrench meant for oil filter...
canny lim Good thinking!
well done for tackling a tricky job that most people say cant be done
Thank you for the great video.
I cannot work out how to remove the ac clutch from the compressor. The video shows you pulling it out by hand. Was there anything else you did to get it loose?
Thanks for the video. You've improved your narrative pacing over time. Good job
Thanks! It's hard to get just right, but it's definitely something I work at!
Go turn the ignition switch on and turn the ac knob on. This will engage the clutch so it will not turn when you take the bolt off.
Great job. If only I had a rear engine car like this, where it's possible to remove the pulley without removing the compressor...
Cor blimey, that's a big tool you've got there...!
Good to see you back Ben.
haha! It's good to be back!
And the space, is that a rocket?
Thank you for the class! Exactly what I needed to know!
Great video ! A little too you can also regrease the seald bearing and save some time but it's probably best to do what you did :-)
would you happen to know the Pulley Bearing PN for the 987 (07 porsche cayman)?
I hear a rattling sound when AC is turned on.
What could be the problem?
Thanks much. Nice video.
It's clutch and the coil
niteowl boy look
Hey Vincent did you ever figure out the culprit?
@@phillippardo5712 it's the aircon compressor clutch bearing.
Thank you. Was it knocking or just a rattle?
I changed my bearing I can't find a torque for the bolt? Thanks I really appreciate your videos!!
Hey William, I think it's 20-25 lb/ft. I'm not sure, tho. I had to consult an AC compressor manufacturer... I couldn't find anything from Porsche.
Awesome work...👍
Hey Ben where did you buy the bearing from. I can’t find the link on your blog. Thank you and where have you been?!?!
...long time no see...enjoyed the video..Thanks!
Yeah, life can get distracting... but I've got a big list of new videos in the works!
Hi, I just discovered you channel. Great job on all you video's. Can you please provide a part number the ac clutch baring. Thanks.
I'm glad you're here. I put all the info on the bearing here: burnerscars.blogspot.com/2016/12/fixing-ac-compressor-clutch-and-bearing.html

Man you’ve got heroine junkies Dream Veins. Ask me how I know. lol 😂
yes! Thank you. This pulley is next on my todo list.
In my case, the cover for the clutch won't pull out. What to do?
Where did you buy the bearing itself?
My ac can be off and only hear it when I’m at a stop but it gets louder when ac is turn on as well as my ac dose not work just got my car a view days ago 2000 Celica Toyota gt. Dose any know know how much it be fix or if it’s still okay to drive
You are the twin of Joel Coen
Where did u buy that 12 ton gear puller??????? I need one!
great key holder
The best video I have seen
You can actually buy a complete pulley with the bearing already installed...saves the trouble of doing this
What bearing is it? Where did you buy from?
My car making a squeaking noise it like a tapping or thumbing and I noticed when the compressor switch is off the clutch is spinning very slowly and I know when the compressor is not supposed to do that I’m not sure if I need a new pulley clutch or bearing but I notice when my compressor turn on it much queiter compared to when it’s off
Nice video.Thanks for the tips.
Strap wrenches are like 5 bux for a set at HF.
Mine is reverse. When I push the ac button on. It squeals but when I turn it off. It doesn't squeal . What do you think
everette romero try changing the belt
Unless your drive belt is really loose, your compressor is more than likely locked-up.
What if I’m hearing a weird rattly squeaky sound if I run the AC, but it stops when I cut the AC off?
Could be that the clutch mechanism friction material is worn down so you are hearing a metal to metal squeal? If so replace the clutch mechanism with bearing included.

What about if the ac pulley doesn’t spin at all
Good video
rent in Auto Part for Gear Pulley?

ornate hammer compressor locked up and smoked the belt that runs it.
Where did you get the bearing? What brand and part# did you install.
Hi. If anyone has the art number for the bearing, post it. Thanks

AC Compressor OEM Clutch Bearing NSK 30BD5222DUM6 A/C.

You can change your compressor bearing while at the drive thru....if you own a Porsche.
Good video, I'm going to try that.
no one has a pipe wrench that big unless your a plumber.
You definitely need bigger stillsons and a bearing puller!

Hi-five to that video! way to replace the bearings and NOT the WHOLE A/C COMPRESSOR!!!
thankz man,,,
You didn’t repair the clutch
I’m just giggling
Alrighty Gus, keep watching, keep wrenching, keep talking soooo slow.... nnndd not being so clear, fur sure...
Shoot, I really hate it when someone speaks so slowly
Weak Sauce dude. Go back to IT.
