Instead of tapping the pomegranate with a spoon put it in a bowl filled with cold water and separate the seeds gently is way easier, not to mention that the membranes will float on the surface of the bowl which makes it easy to remove, then drain and enjoy

This works better if you let the seeds drop into a bowl of cold water. The white pith floats to the top and the seeds settle on the bottom. pour off the water - beautiful harvest!

I LOVE MARTHA ❤ Even though the man was annoying to work with I think Martha did a good job with teaching him how to de-seed a pomegranate. Also, I think this lesson was off-the-cuff, Martha didn't prepare this segment herself, she had to use what they had in their kitchen, this was not Martha's Kitchen so she had to make do, can't blame her for that.

There are multiple de-seeding methods, but she's teaching THIS ONE the WRONG way. She cut the pomegranate in half vertically instead of horizontally. Which in this way, the membrane of the pomegranate is cut and the seeds will pop out very easily when you hit it with the back of the spoon.
Martha, I encourage you to watch the video by Danispies on de-seeding a pomegranate. I've done it this way for over 2 yrs. now & it makes eating them so much less work and much MORE often to "enjoy the fruits of your labor"- literally. Enjoy.

this is not the best way to remove pomegranate seeds. it's better to remove them under a big bowl of water with your hands. fast and less mess! and must they use such a BIG knife? LOL WTH?
You are right! My Persian friend showed me that many years ago and I was grateful forever! There is also a video clip showing it here on TH-cam published in 2008 by one guy, can't remember the name, sorry. Easy, not messy, no banging on seeds and taking juice out of them. And we certainly do not work on pomegranate with those long knives. One short but sharp will do the job!

@La Dida my question regarding the water method which does sound better is if you submerge the pomegranate into a bowl of water doesn’t it dilute the juice from the seeds?

This is the stupidest way to open a pomegranate.
The correct way to do it is slice the pomegranate in 4's, and then use your fingers to pull the seeds off one section at a time. The way they keep on hitting the pomegranate to get the seeds out is so stupid.
You're the stupid one, thats not the way to do it either!!!!!! you first cut iut a cone shape where the flower end is THEN score alonge the sides where its natrually marked inside THEN pick the seeds that way!
