- Hi guys, today I am off to Panjim with Maria and Jaya. Our channel member Abhishek ‘Abzee’ Bandekar has recommended that we try out Bombil restaurant. Now I want to be honest that in the past also Maria and I have gone to Bombil with Evelyn and Remy and we did not enjoy it very much. But since Abhishek has recommended it, we’re open to giving it a try. You never know, maybe it was just a bad day at the restaurant
Many of our viewers have been asking us since long to come to Bombil. So here we are on Campal, the riverside drive of Goa’s capital city Panjim, heading towards Kala Academy. Follow Campal till the Kala Academy and the Military Hospital. Turn left at the Kala Academy traffic light, and you will see Bombil on your left. The gaily painted restaurant is impossible to miss. If coming from inside Panjim along MG Road, turn right at Sant Inez circle towards Campal

We reached just before 1, so it was easy to get a table. Soon, the lunch crowd will come and people will be waiting outside Bombil for a table
Jaya is very impressed with the gaily decor at Bombil
Here in Bombil, the menu is up on the wall for all to see. After seeing the pork and beef thalis on the menu, Maria and I will forget chicken cafreal and order these instead. And we’ll definitely try the home made bebinca
Maria’s going to have the (pork) aad maas (bone meat) thali (Rs 380). Lesley will have beef thali (Rs 360). Jaya’ll have the veg thali with white rice (Rs 240). We’ll try mushroom cafreal also

One pork aad maas thali with Goan brown rice (Rs 380), beef thali with Goan brown rice (Rs 360), veg thali normal white rice (Rs 240), kokum mojito (Rs 220), pomegranate fresh mojito (Rs 240), pineapple fresh mojito (Rs 240) and mushroom cafreal (Rs 260)
The decor reminds one of a warm, cosy Italian taverna
Our lunch arrives very soon. Jaya’s Goan veg thali has sourac curry, dal, salad, rice, brinjal fodis, mango pickle, sweet lime pickle, garlic pickle, fruit custard, tambdi bhaji, tidkeo midkeo bhaji and vegetable soup. Maria’s pork aad maas thali has two kinds of fried fish, salad, pork aad maas, teesrio, fruit custard, soup, sweet lime pickle, garlic pickle, mango pickle and rice and bhendi bhaji. Lesley's beef thali also has prawn curry, then teesrio, fruit custard, sweet lime pickle, soup, mango pickle, garlic pickle, rice, mackerel parra (salt fish pickle), fried dried fish, salad, and on the side some beef chilli fry
The mushroom cafreal was surprisingly good. Beef chilly fry is very tasty. Aad maas is also very nice. The food is much better now compared to last time. Rice and curry is unlimited in the thali
Maria is very excited to see Bombil’s owner Joseph Dias in the kitchen. He is a well known zumba instructor from the north
While eating, we can hear the strains of a guitar. It’s Felix, our very talented neighbour from Colva, with Robert on the drum. Together they are called ‘The Rubber Band. Because they are flexible!

I've been faithfully following your videos for months now. What really impressed me is the sheer variety of well made dishes in marine food, pork and beef, offered at most🎉 of the restaurants in their very creative interiors, not to mention the pleasant hosts and their earnest serving staff; truly a gourmet's paradise. You all have been doing such a fabulous job exploring and revealing authentic Goan joints, keeping Goan cuisine alive... but then you go ahead and do something like this, and you keep Goan culture alive, one of hospitality, grace, companionship and just basic genuine warmth. Just like Vasco da Gama discovered the route to India we too discovered your channel by ‘chance’ thanks to my 15 yr old son. 😊 and now it’s become a ritual to watch it. Call us ‘fanatics’ not fans 🤓. Love the simplicity and ‘sushegad’ way of your presentation and of course your subtle mischievous sarcasm at times. We live in Bombay but our heart s are in Goa where we try to go often without any reason at times. In April we tried Ramesh R&B, Mistur Kudd, Kuttikar’s, . Coming in May to try some more of your recommendations. Hoping to meet you some time ; may be at some restaurant while relishing the Fish Thali 🍽️

Hello Leslie and Team... Based on your review, we visited this place... We waited for 45 minutes to get a place to dine... But it was worth the wait! We had King Fish Thali and Prawns Thali and both were absolutely delicious 😋😋😋. The piping hot curry and brown rice was so very delicious... The fish was very fresh... Hi Leslie, thanks for keeping us updated on your vlog, the standard of food at Blue heaven, bhatkar thali has gone down, fish was bad, and the mud pots which they serve was not cleaned, portion of crabs was too small, for the pricing of Rs 400, kindly convey the inconveniece cause to the management.

Yes you guys are indeed very lucky to be in Goa, we Mumbaikars can only dream of coming to Goa for a vacation whenever possible and the amount of places you guys have been showing us it will take an eternity to visit all these iconic places and taste their food. But I am sure when I will be coming to Goa this November I will try to visit at least two places suggested by you guys. Carry on eating and showing us the wonders of Goaaa. The vibe in Bombil looks good, though a bit cramped. But that's ok!!
Since you went back to Bombil despite a not so good experience, I am daring to repeat a recommendation of mine I had made quite some time back. Octima at Cavelossim. And I'm talking bout the Goan food. Admaas, squid in many ways (particularly the stuffed squid), tiger and jumbo prawns grilled in Rechead masala and others...I absolutely cannot comment on the vegetarian options, just as a warning to Jaya😄😄
Here in Shillong we eat a lot of smoked pork and I had suggested using smoked pork (as an option) for some of the dishes like Vindalho as I am positive it will taste brilliant. I promised the son of the owner (Mazzine) that I would bring some for him to try the next time I am in Goa. Let's hope I can go back there. My better half and son are absolutely certain they want to go back.
Be warned though, the service is slow and that suited us as we were in no hurry.
I'l be very honest, I'm somewhat scared to make a recommendation in case it does not work out, taste wise for all of you. But anyway, I did it and cheers!!
Hi Michael, yes Bombil does look cramped when you enter but once you're seated, it's quite comfortable. I will definitely visit Octima in Cavelossim this week. Because we are keen to find a good, authentic goan place there. Most of the places are tourist traps. Nothing to be scared! We'll give our honest opinion about the food.
And we don't mind slow service. Good food is cooked slowly. In fact, sometimes it's a bit doubtful when restaurants serve something like fried fish super fast

I tried to visit this restaurant but due to parking and rush inside we went other but definitely visit this restaurant
