  • The tiny village of Daylesford, a somewhat hidden gem, is another classic Cotswolds place to visit - not only for the fantastic Daylesford Farm Shop, owned by the Bamford's, nestled nearby...

You're very welcome. It's blowing a gale at the moment and not as lovely as usual. Nevertheless we are lucky to live here. All the best, Robin

Robin, I most vehemently love the way you are sharing the British Cotswolds and close surrounding areas with us! It is truly a treat and more appreciated than you may be aware! I am an American. My ancestors came, from what I can gather, from the area of Lechlade on Thames... My Father’s father’s side of the family were apparently experts in herding sheep with dogs, and some were doctors and veterinarians. My father’s mothers side in mill work nearby, where the River Leach and Thames merge... My mother’s side on her father’s line came from Scotland, near St. Andrews. His name was Bell. On her mother’s side, she noted they were from Yorkshire. We do not know if it was around York itself, or from the giant area making up Yorkshire... My Aunt did find a relative in Newcastle, apparently, however, they both have since passed away... Our family surnames are: Leach, Walton, Howerton, and Bell. The remainder of our family name, Labor, came from the Choctaw Nation, an American Indian Tribe now residing in Oklahoma.

It's great to hear from you and thanks for your kind words. Lechlade is a lovely town; we visited briefly last year, in between lock-downs. I am full of admiration that you have such a strong grasp of your family history. It seems to me it's important for us all, as far as possible to know where we come from and if you have as interesting a background as you obviously have then why not? Thanks for watching and please keep in touch. Robin.

Just moved from Northumberland to the northern edge of the Cotswolds (Ettington) to be nearer my daughter. Thanks for these films: great helping me discover my new surroundings.

Widget sends his best wishes. He's all upset because it's Artweeks in Oxfordshire and there are dozens of strangers in the studio where my wife works. He doesn't enjoy that. Keep watching. All the best, Robn

You could well be right. He watched the steady stream of very aristocratic dogs going in and out of Daylesford and I have a feeling he was developing a certain inferiority complex. Thanks for watching, Robin

Such a lovely place, sadly the farm shop brings up a lot of Londoners who always seems Huffy & Puffy and always in a hurry. But if you manage to evade them, it’s a very special place.

I had the incomparable privilege of living in Daylesford for a few years in my late teens, as a result of my parents being employed on the estate. Then they opened that horrendous shop and the place spiralled into pretentious farce.
