- What a huge surprise for this streetmusician and us! We were filming him singing the song smalltown boy by Bronski Beat, when suddenly Jimmy Somerville (the original singer) comes up and joins him singing! Awesome, things like that only happen in Berlin!

I was a shift manager for a small homeless charity in London and it was lovely having Jimmy volunteer with us. Extremely humble, kind and caring person who you'd never guess is a well-known musician and he sincerely acted with less pomposity than our regular volunteers. He really is the definition of down-to-earth.
Trufax - he's also done homeless volunteering with me - chooses to be known as James, doesn't want to be recognised, doesn't want a bit of fuss.
Thats nothing. Me and my pals once played 'Message in a Bottle' on the street using make shift instruments and dustbins for drums...then the police came along.

+aspiadas That's nothing. Me and my pals played "Y.M.C.A." on the street in a small town using a rolled up newspaper, a ham sandwich and a windshield wiper. After a while, the village people came out to watch us play. Good times, i tells ya.

It was so touching when the street musician asked 'is it you?'. He was touched and impressed. Reality! Gotta love that.

back of my mind wondering if it was setup (maybe the guys filming knew) but from the description and yeah, an honest reaction this is a very genuine moment. Liked how Jimmy was treating the busker as "the guy."
And he had to ask 3 times just to be sure... as we all would. Lucky guy!

I met Jimmy on a train from Brighton once, he had an amazing conversation with my son (who was about 2-3 at the time) and was just a genuinely nice guy 😊

In the mid 1990's i had tickets to see Altan in Barrhead, Scotland - just 2 or 3 miles from where i lived. But i had to cancel because i was going to Germany. When i arrived in Hamburg i saw a poster advertising that Altan were playing that week! Blew my mind. Got tickets and went with my friend. We tried to skip the fare on the train. "i do it all the time" he said.
We got busted and i'm not kidding, we got taken to the police! I'd just scored some Moroccan black, and had a matchbox full of it in my pocket (my German pal said it was ok to have that amount - don't know if that was true). The policeman wanted me to pay a fine, but i lied and said i had no money. he said "so if i searched you right now you'd have no money?" I said "yes". He just asked me to fill in a form saying i'd pay the fine when i got back to Scotland, and we were late for the gig.
There was nowhere to sit and we ended up sprawled on a huge very low table about the size of a snooker table on the side of the stage, right next to the band. I had a little pipe and we got totally wasted. Other ppl came up out their seats and joined us on the table and we passed the pipe around. It was a great gig, and a night i'll never forget.

I once performed in a string quartet at Putney shopping centre - it doesn't get any more glamorous! Between numbers the cellist played the Postman Pat theme music to a young kid who was nearby. Then an elderly man approached and told us he wrote that tune. And it turned out that he was indeed the composer!

By "lil' guy" you must mean Jimmy Sommerville. You could, maybe, call him in that derogatory fashion if you were buddy buddies or if you had actually achieved anything in life yourself. Until then, lil' buddy, learn your place in life !
Seems like he gets around. The comments are full of "met this guy in London" "met this guy in Belgium" "met this guy in Amsterdam." There's a good chance if you go outside and sing one of his songs he and his dog will appear.

He is one of goodness knows how few artists who sang live on top of the pops post-bananarama. EVERYONE mimed, and then he comes on for his first performance of this song and sings live, perfectly. So much respect for him

Artists, sensitive who have suffered in their life, add more emotion and sincerity to their innate talent! Artists, painters, singers, actors living superficially are less brilliant, moving, soulful. They miss a source of inspiration in their soul and past, even with a lot of talent. That's what I tried to mean with my bad English! 🇨🇵

You have to love Jimmy Somerville. So humble and down to earth, and wrote some of the 80s most defining songs. Amazing talent, so unique. His falsetto is perfect. And even now as he's older, he's kept the voice
I had never heard this song or artist until seeing this clip, I must admit I have watched it several times lol. His voice is stunningly good. I actually like this one better than the original which is a higher pitch. I would LOVE to have him do an unplugged acoustic just like he sang it here, this tiny clip isn't enough... I want to hear more now!

I was sitting in an airport once as young college girl bringing a borrowed guitar with me because a friend and I were going to take lessons so I had no clue how to play at all. Suddenly a very nice older man sits next to me and asks me if I was in a band etc... just talking all about guitar and saying that he "plays a bit"- it turned out to be John Lee Hooker and he thought it was hysterical that I never heard of him!! : ) He was very sweet and his band mates then all looked over smiling at the interaction. Then I noticed people passing and taking his picture. : )
That shows the passion of a musician towards his music...a famous musician still gets excited to see a person carrying an instrument.
