    I got the RONIN Shuto belt. It's the same, without the D ring, and a few bucks less. I went with Ronin because of the quality and because of the philosophy of Tu Lam, where he's been, and what he's done. Added the Esstac Kywis with my Safariland ALS/SLS and the combo is flawless. Comfortable enough to wear mowing the lawn or rucking overland or with a plate carrier on missions.

    • @ThinLineDefenseCo
      @ThinLineDefenseCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a badass setup! The Shuto is perfect for almost everyone...to include myself.
      I certainly don't clip into helicopters recently. Maybe I can change that lol
      Do you run a dump pouch? I keep wanting to ditch mine but then I'm always throwing camera gear in it.

    We have spoken before, trying to choose between three different manufacturers. Two of us on SRT have just gone with the RONIN Task Force belts. We'll see how they shake out over time, but, I am not expecting any issues. KORE has a new, wider belt they are about to debut which I am looking forward to for Patrol use as well. The ronin is more robust but it's not like the WPS one is going to ever break down. I'll say if you're gonna do minimalist.... WPS... If you're gonna load the hell out of it and use it and abuse it... Go Ronin (or Axl eclipse).

  • @swimp15
    @swimp15 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the Ronin belt, but I’m skeptical on real-world usage. If you have time to put on pants with belt loops, put on a belt, and then put on your battle belt the right way without re-adjusting, it’s perfect. For most people in a time crunch, a belt that doesn’t require extra steps works best, and even if you have the time to put on a Ronin, the extra time gained with a simple HSGI battle belt (or equivalent) is invaluable. My HSGI Battle belt has one cobra buckle, and material on the inside to keep it from moving on my waist. Gotta make sure you size it correctly though.
    Competition wise, great value on the Ronin, but velcro wears out over time, and when you may need it the most, it might not work as intended. Covertly, sound makes a big difference when taking the belt off for any reason. Great video, and I’m a huge fan of the Esstac Kywi pouches (have them on my belt and carrier)! I never added a dump pouch, and used an extra rifle mag in that spot. Re-indexing should be a skill to learn!
    Great video!

    • @ThinLineDefenseCo
      @ThinLineDefenseCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely spot on! I have a single piece t-rex arms orion we are reviewing next. I also feel you on my skepticism on how long the inner belt will last.
      Also agree on the dump pouch. Reindexing is far more important. I throw all my camera gear in there lol
      Thanks for commenting and stay tuned! We'll do a belt shootout video and I intent to mention exactly what you're saying

      You can easily modify this for that purpose by adding on some Qore Performance pads. I have seen a few guys convert their ronin belt to be a bit more traditional and quicker to don and doff. I love how tightly my pouches are woven into this belt and how thin it is. It doesn't trap heat like older 2010 and earlier warbelts.

    • @jamesyang9884
      @jamesyang9884 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @ThinLineDefenseCo

      This really depends on what you're using. Things like an esstac 2+1 doesn't line up. I just use velcro one wrap to secure it and it works fine.

      My Ronin didn't fit correctly with the gap and just didn't align right. The wtf strips don't hold strong enough for my liking. If you're connecting it via molle, use malice clips.

      I like the trex because it's more flexible but it's also not as perfect. It's less a question of which is better and more a question of this or that.'
      The Ronin fits on a belt and fits you exactly. The orion can be thrown over a jacket or over clothes easily and much much faster. From a warfighter or competition standpoint, the Ronin is king. From a home defense or quick response, I'd recommend the orion.
      The orion isn't quite as stable so your draw stroke could potentially stuffer as it won't be as consistent. You could use a leg strap to help but it won't remove the issue.

    I wish you would actually do that G code versus KYWI pouches video. I was actually having a conversation about that very subject the other day with a couple of people. To be honest, the only reason I watched this video was to hear your take on the KYWI pouches. I’ve been running them for a few years now. I have no desire to move to anything else. I’m sure it’s theoretically possible to make a better mag pouch, but Even if someone did, I’m not sure it would be better enough for me to wanna switch.

    • @ThinLineDefenseCo
      @ThinLineDefenseCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I moved away from them and the Tyr happy mag pouch does what gcode does... Better. But it gives a mag retention strap also.
      I also prefer Esstac for 99% but for a patrol or duty style, I'd want some retention on the mags. The esstac mags also limit themselves in their design. The Tyr mags can run 7.62 mags... 308 mags... 556 mags... With the same level of retention. So it gives you a versatility that Esstac does not.
      The Tyr is on my duty setup. The esstac is on everything else from home defense to rapid engagement.
      My 2 cents!

      @@ThinLineDefenseCo I can understand the retention strap. They have them on the new Haley strategic pouches. I’ve never been a really big fan. I get why guys use them. I’ve just never really had a problem with retention in the Esstacs. Maybe I’m not doing crazy enough shit.
      I also understand your point about running 308. However, I don’t run 308. Maybe someday, but then I’d probably have a dedicated 308 load out.

      @@ThinLineDefenseCo honestly, now that I’m thinking about it, I might be building a training scar. The main reason I don’t like straps it that I don’t like messing with them while trying to get mags back in my belt. That’s a range convenience not a real world reason.

      Hah you'd think so but the inner belt is actually pretty secure when you cinch it down.
      Check out the low profile inner EDC belt on our warrior poet Society belt Review. Cody shows you how to wear it with some "Tactical girth" applied.
