I always loved this song. Now that I see it with this video, it kind of gets to me in a different way. My mom died after battling poor health for a long time. At her funeral, I had bought some balloons to let go at her service. They had been in my car for awhile and when I let em' go, they all sank, except the one I got with a smiley face. I watched the balloon til it was so high I couldn't see it anymore. And the smiley face never turned away. Beautiful song.

@@johnnelson3665 my guess is that you were conceived under a dull moon in one of the drabber flatlands where flights of fancy are to be deflated and mouth-farted on.
An excerpt from Mary Nelson's book, 'The death knell of my son's imagination: and how my sister helped his jealous little eyes be nicer'
'John Nelson, son of my glorious sister, with her and your own loveliness inside of you, you should know better!', said Sarah Frolic-Sage née Nelson, John's aunt.
Feeling rightly and openly chastised by his gleaming aunt, the aunt who held him when he was bullied by himself and when he kissed a girl and she ran away, he wanted to get into a hole dug by little moles but again, she embraced him. John was happy then. Then, he began to hate her love and vowed to mark her soul and skin for making him feel. He remembered himself. Yes. He knew what to do. He would comment her to death.
      John would become 'John'.

    • @johnstuckaiii
      @johnstuckaiii 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

For me that title would go to the band The Church but I definitely agree that Mercury Rev was brilliant and vastly unappreciated, unacknowledged and underrated. As I understand it part of the problem is they had a consistent reputation with falling apart during live performances largely due in fact to the singer's propensity for getting drunk on stage consistently.
And if you are unfamiliar with or only know of a couple songs by The Church I would full heartedly recommend you check out a variety of their work as each album tends to have a feel of it's own. One of the things that makes them stick out is how they cover a wide range of songs and music styles from Pink Floyd like psychedelic rock to slower even ballad or nursery like rock songs to straight up rock tunes. If you do end up liking them I'd love to hear; drop me an email or connect with me on Google+. Cheers!

Time, all the long red lines, that take control
Of all the smoke-like streams that flow into your dreams
That big blue open sea, that can't be crossed
That can't be climbed, just born between
Oh, the two white lines, distant Gods an' faded signs
Of all those blinking lights, you had to pick the one tonight
Holes, dug by little moles, angry jealous spies
Got telephones for eyes, come to you as friends
All those endless ends, that can't be tied
Oh, they make me laugh, and always make me cry
Till they drop like flies, and sink like polished stones
Of all the stones I throw, how does that old song go?
How does that old song go?
Bands, those funny little plans, that never work quite right

This song brings so out so many emotions when i first heard it. It makes me feel like a kid and feeling free. It brings up memories of my mom and how she comforted me and my siblings when we fell in life but was always there to pick us up. It also makes me feel sad that she is no longer with us but as song ramps up, it leaves me with great memories of my life with a awesome mom. I miss you every day mom. You are forever my mom and always in my heart. Rest easy and until we see each other again thank you for aways picking me up then and now. Love you.

Thanks, I didn't want to at first, but somehow I keep returning to the song every now and then. Sometimes I just listen and read the comments and don't watch the footage...and thanks for putting the song to the film too. It's perfect.

Been a fan of this band and song ever since Deserters Songs released all those years ago in another lifetime.
Now, sitting in a cafe whilst my son sits watching Sing 2 in a group in the corner, and I hear this song blaring away.
I honestly had to check to see if my phone had somehow begun to interfere with the cafe's sound system 😄
Delighted this tune is now reaching a bigger audience, it deserves it.

Man there's something about this song. So different from the rest of their stuff but so perfect. The chords, the silly reoccurring sound effect, the voice. Don't get me started on this music video, perfect match.

Many of my generation were fortunate enough to have been shown this film at school in the 60s and early 70s. I'm glad that younger people who never saw it have perhaps been introduced to it with this video. Wonderful pairing of song and images, S.D. Thank you.
