"All Too Well" Squirrelflight & Brambleclaw PMV

PLEASE READ: This video was in the works long before the book "Squirrelflight's Hope," and is supposed to only reflect Bramble and Squirrel's relationship up to "Bramblestar's Storm." I'm not as familiar with the newer series after "Bramblestar's Storm," but I did read "Squirrelflight's Hope," and I found Bramblestar's behavior towards Squirrelflight in that book pretty terrible tbh. Squirrel has always been my favorite character, and it made me so sad to see her be treated so poorly and dismissively by him when she was being the only reasonable cat in that super edition imo. After reading that I do not want to condone Bramblestar and Squirrelflight's relationship as it is written in the books, but I still put a lot of work into this PMV and still wanted to share it. I hope it can still be enjoyed as my idealistic take on their relationship.

Since this PMV follows two timelines: the past (the events of TNP to the end of OotS) and the present (events of Bramblestar’s Storm) I wanted to make sure it was clear what time is being shown as the video jumps from one event to the next. So, there are some changes to the characters’ design to help indicate this:
1) During the badger fight in TNP, when they first reconcile, Squirrel gains the nick in her ear, and Bramble gains the scar on his shoulder.
2) After Hollyleaf reveals her biological parents, causing Squirrel and Bramble to break up, they get bags under their eyes.
3) After the great battle with Holly and Fire’s deaths, Bramble and Squirrel gain some grey on their muzzles.

This feels like old style Warriors PMVs/AMVs IN THE BEST WAY. Very simple storytelling that captures how it felt like to read the books. Plus you have such a charming and perfect style that fits sooooooo well with the song choice! This is easily a masterpiece and a classic

Welp, regardless of the recent books, I still love and support the *old* BrambleSquirrel ship, y'know, before the writers decided to pull a complete 180 on with his character.
I like to think they fixed their relationship. If Bramblestar had just apologized sooner for treating Squilf baldy, so many of their problems could be avoided.
Bramble had a lot of potential, sadly it all fell apart.
This is exactly how I feel. Regardless of what happend in Squirrelflight's Hope.
Idk personally I feel he kinda always didn't listen to her. Even wrt Hawkfrost he just disregarded her concerns out of hand and never really treated her well. He's definitely gotten worse but imo it was never healthy.

Actually it did. He praised Squirrelflight in front of the whole gathering, claiming no cat could have a better deputy and mate. He thanked her for staying by his side the whole way through. So he kind of did treat her the same way as the ending, except I think he treated her better :)

First of all, let me say that his video is great^^
They are my favorite couple and I don't care what so many people on youtube say.
While Bramblestar had treated her badly in Squirrelflight's Hope, so did she him. You say she was being the *only* reasonable cat in that super edition, but ignore how she, like always and how Firestar before her, didn't really think about the consequences of her actions. Mentioning how ThunderClan never hunts on the territory they got from WindClan caused WindClan to start hunting there, and when Bramblestar allowed that in order to avoid a pointless fight that caused Tigerstar and Mistystar to want to change borders and that led to the whole confrontation with Sisters. She went away without telling Bramblestar and got herself imprisoned. Even after her dream it hadn't occurred to her to talk with him first before going with Leafpool. She doesn't seem to realize that since she is his mate and deputy, her actions reflect a LOT on Bramblestar, both within ThunderClan and before the other Clans, and her constantly going against him made him look weak. Aside from how that's exactly Rowanstar and ShadowClan went to shit, there was also the matter of ThunderClan being the only Clan who would be willing to fight to defend SkyClan if Tigerstar got into his head to chase them out again, and if ThunderClan would be seen as weak that threat would no longer be a deterrent.
Think about how Fireheart acted when he was Bluestar deputy and she would go on about WindClan stealing pray. Did he speak against her during the Gathering? No, because he understood how would that be seen by other Clans. I saw people arguing that he went behind her back and wasn't punished, so it's okay for deputy to act on their own, those people completely miss that Bluestar was insane and thought she was punishing him by doing nothing, as after her death he would be a leader of Clan full of traitors and would suffer just as she suffered.
Bramblestar is under a LOT of pressure throughout this book, something a lot of people seem not to get (and neither does Squirrelflight for the most part). I do not condone how he acts towards Squirrelflight there, but at least I understand his reasons and I do not condone a lot of her actions as well.
Lastly, couples argue and have strains in their relationships, but if they can work through they come out stronger and that's them.
PS: Since I know somebody is going to reply with that suggestion, no, I will not watch Moonkitty's video, I have no interest in watching an hour long video that I know I will disagree with (as I have read in the comments under every video remotely related to Bramblestar and Squirrelflight people cite her arguments) because that would result in me wasting my entire Saturday writing a ridiculously long comment pointing out every single wrong argument and wrong interpretation and plainly omitting or forgetting events, that I know nobody will ever read because of how long that comment would be and because that video is already several years old.
The fact that Bramblestar is under pressure isn't excuse for showing twelve of the twenty abuse signals. The fact that his deputy has a different opinion than he does, the fact that she is annoying, does not give him the right to treat her like garbage.
NO Bramble deserves a better mate Squirrelflight can go die alone for all I care!

Tbh I’ve kind of been worried about people totally disliking it lol, especially because of all the discourse in the fandom about Bramblestar, and his relationship with Squirrelflight. (Honestly, I’m also not a huge fan of the ship anymore too. But, I see this PMV as kinda my idealistic version of their relationship, which I’m glad other people can appreciate!!)
@@sedateddreams4254 you're very welcome! and i totally get that haha. but i think it's important to mention that liking certain ships is a subjective thing--and what one person might interpret about how a relationship is written, someone else might interpret it differently.
i think it's alright to still ship Bramblestar and Squirrelflight honestly, because their relationship did have potential in the beginning; the weird writing is what makes it unintentionally abusive sometimes. that's kind of why i like when the fandom interprets their relationship in a different way sometimes, if that makes sense lol. and it's why AUs and PMVs like yours exist, to give a better or just altogether alternative perspective despite the books or what was originally there--plus, despite it, the authors probably weren't even intending to make it like such (not to say that their ignorance is good, but still), so it kind of makes sense in general to think of it differently haha. like i mentioned before, writing and the way we perceive it can be very subjective!
(sorry if i rambled too much btw haha, i just like talking about this sort of thing i guess?)

Yeah... While I've always firmly been on Squirrel's side when it comes to their fights, I was willing to be more forgiving of Bramble's behavior in the New Prophecy, because I could see him as just being dumb/immature/super insecure then. I was also lenient towards him in Omen of the Stars because although he was cold/distant to her after their breakup, he was never overly mean (like he was in TNP...) And, this was also following a massive betrayal about Holly/Lion/Jay's real parentage, so he had reason to be upset. (Although, I'm not saying that Squirrel is at fault for taking in the kits though! I mean, she was basically pressured into it by StarClan, and it was also her sister, and she believed she was doing the right thing.)
But, once I read Squirrelflight's Hope, and I saw him being awful and treating her like trash AGAIN even though she was literally the only reasonable cat in the Super Edition... that's when I realized that it was a cycle that was going to keep happening. :/

@@sedateddreams4254 id implore you to reread the ending of sqh because we genuinely do see growth in his character. squilf wasn't amazing in sqh as well and she would often lollygag with the sisters instead of support and help her clan. she was obviously doing what she thought was right, but the sisters were willing to go to extremes against the clans. same with the clans against the sisters.
however, they apologized. one of the most heartfel moments in all of warriors was the ending of sqh where he does grow up and realize how much he loves her and how wrong he was.
as for tnp, that wasn't his fault considering squilf called him tigerstar and unjustly accused him of being a traitor bc he wanted kin. and no, she was;t pressured by starclan to take the kits, leafpool pressured her mainly. he never treated her like trash ever, yes they've fought but they replicate human relationships. we all make mistakes and fight a lot in our relationships, they're the most real couple.
there is no cycle in my eyes, its just them making mistakes and realizing they fucked up.

This is so well done! I love how it really shows how many ups and downs their relationship has had. People always blame Brambleclaw when its not just him, its both of them. I can't wait for their re connection after this possession stuff. They're my second favorite ship, next to Graystripe and Millie, but thats not important, what I like about it just how realistic it is, besides the Maury Show stuff with The Three. I love it so much! How do you animate so well?
@Skywalker Kitty It’s because the book just for some dumb reason takes every opportunity to go above and beyond what it needs to do for example her punishments were going behind his back he could’ve just temporarily demoted her or threaten to by putting her on probation and that would’ve been all they had to do

Even if that headcanon is far from true, it's a much better explanation than what the writer's did, what with making Bramble's character go and do a complete 180 and just suddenly turn into a massive scumbag.

It’s funny to me cuz SquirrelFlight looks like Sadie Sink as a cat lol
While people may not want to support bramble n squirrels relationship (which is fine) I implore people to read sqh and open your eyes to the issues from both sides. While bramble was indeed a terrible mate in this ONE book, we see that he acts like this bc squilf has completely ignored his rule as a leader. Yes deputies should challenge the leaders but not this much? While bramble was with his clan trying to fix it, squilf was off with the sisters talking shit. HOWEVER, i implore you all to also reread the ending of the book. we see a genuine apology. we see the two of them own up to their relationship and issues and we see them genuinely sit down and grow up.
For me, Squirrelflight’s Hope was a terrible read as nearly everyone in that book was annoying that I urged myself to stop reading at Chapter 19. The plot is overall fine but I don’t see anything good about Brambleclaw’s and Squirrelflight’s relationship at the end of the book, as if the authors want us to realize that Squirrelflight was also doing something wrong but as I’ve read that far into the book, to me it feels as if all she did was interact with some rouges, want kits, try finding new land for SkyClan, and care about she-cat who’s expecting. Brambleclaw doesn't appear as a bad leader though there's something about the author’s choice of writing him as such a tainted partner that the Brambleclaw from The New Prophecy feels as if he never existed, Or an entirely different cat for that matter. I didn’t mind them in Midnight, as I’m not that far into the second ARC though the two being together didn’t entertain me as much but they *were* alright.
