19:19 Rosewood Fire station is the most used location to setup a base. 21:10 Water & Electricity gets shut off within the first 2 weeks of in-game time (This can be adjusted when playing in Custom Sandbox) 23:05 You need a watch for time. 24:30 To cook, you will need to use either the Crafting Menu or use a Pot/Saucepan with water OR a Griddle/Frying Pan to cook meals, or you can just stick (Uncooked) food into microwaves/stoves to cook them. 29:15 Dropping bags/containers on the ground will allow you to access them. 31:00 Boredom can be improved by being near a turned on TV/Radio or doing any activity. 32:20 Secondary/Second Hand equipped items is ideal for carrying containers while using a single-handed weapon as your primary. 33:35 Fire Axes is a 2-handed weapon and lose effectiveness when being used with one hand. 34:00 You can use the Spacebar to push/shove the zombies away and stomp on them when they are on the ground to save endurance. 34:40 You can use ripped cloth as a low-grade bandage which is created when ripping up clothes, ideally clothes from zombies. 35:45 To quickly see the inventory of zombies or any container including the floor, you can hover over the inventory menu. This helps without needing to click every time on a container to open it. 37:10 There is no stats for all the useful information. You will need mods in order to see them. 39:30 You can lock doors/windows by right-clicking on doors OR right-clicking the bottom of the doors; because of how the game is, some items such as doors, clocks, bags, etc. are not aligned to where you click opposed to where they physically are in the world. Meaning, with the angled view of the POV, if you try to click on something, it will either try and register the item or anywhere behind it. Side Note: Some shortcuts to keep in mind for easy access. E = Open/Close Doors, Windows, Car Doors, Garage Doors Shift + E = Open/Close Curtains on Windows, Sheets on Doors/Windows Hold E = Climb through Windows, Climb Up/Down Sheet Rope or Fire poles Hold Shift + E = Dive through Windows (Cuts guaranteed) Equipped Weapons = Clear Broken Glass on Windows to avoid cuts Leather Gloves = Avoid cuts from broken glass when picking them up Shoes/Boots = Avoid stepping on broken glass (Will need tweezers to pull out glass & suture needles to stitch-up Deep Wounds) Loud Noise = Attracts zombies (Depending on the game mode you play they can either have poor hearing to superhuman hearing) TV = Life and Living TV channel (channel 203) provides skill experience points. By watching this channel, you can passively gain experience in various skills such as cooking, carpentry, fishing, farming, foraging, and trapping Traits = When creating a new character, depending on how you want to allocate your points, the best NEGATIVE traits to get is High Thirst & Overweight because thirst is easily manageable and overweight can be removed by just loosing weight. (Sunday Driver is useless as it limits vehicle speed to 30 & makes it very difficult to tow anything & almost impossible to escape zombies when surrounded) Custom Sandbox = Customize they playstyle for your playthrough to every detail from what time of year/season you start, how many days have been passed since the outbreak, how the zombies act, how much loot there is and whether they regenerate or not after a certain amount of time, how long it will take for water/electricity to shutoff. One last thing: Crafting Menu hotkey is B (you can also use the HUD icon, which is the Hammer, to bring it up. You can also Save the characters you create by pressing save at the bottom of the screen in the character creator so you do not have to keep remaking your characters. If you do play with mods, the mod 'Simple Status' is a must if you wish to see your status values.
Amazing game, love it to bits. Always fun watching somebody learn the game, keep it up! Spent 1600 hours in it, tough to learn and hard to master but it's a lot of fun and very rewarding. Tips : (Disclaimer : Possible mechanic spoilers) 1. In settings you can find and toggle a green outline for melee weapons, it helps learning the angles you need in order to hit zeds. 2. When they're on the ground have the weapon physically hit their head, that sort of thing matters in this game. 3. You do NOT need to run, a healthy character can outpace zeds at a walk. 4. Power and water eventually run out separately, it's randomized usually between 0 - 31 days. 5. Keep a filled water bottle in your main inventory, the character will auto-drink as long as it has something in it. Any liquid container works, I like the bourbon bottles. (If using high thirst, take two!) 6. Nutrients are important, keep your weight between 75 and 85. High Carb High foods to gain weight, Low Carb Low Fat High Hunger foods to lose weight. 7. Custom Sandbox allows you to pick from all of the pre-made difficulties as templates, it also allows you to see all of the values in certain settings. 8. Panic traits (fear of blood, coward, etc) get better over time. 9. Scratches, Lacerations, and Bites from zombies are ALL dangerous! There is NO cure. Bites are fatal, lacerations are 25% chance to be fatal, and Scratches are 7% chance to be fatal. 10. The yellow 'infected' is NOT the zombie virus, it just slows down the healing of wounds. 11. Use real world common sense! If you wouldn't do it in real life, try to avoid it in Zomboid! The game is full of small immersive mechanics that CAN get you killed if you're not careful. 12. ALWAYS. WATCH. MOODLES. If you get hit and have a dark red bloody moodle, check for an injury in the neck, head, or groin (in that order). These are quickly fatal (within seconds), bandage immediately! 13. Having too much in your inventory kills endurance regain unless 'resting' at a chair, couch, or bed of some sort. Likewise your health can drop a LIMITED amount when over encumbered. 14. Digital watches are king! They give you the date and time when you wear one, they also have alarms you can use to regulate a sleeping schedule. If you can't find one on a zombie or while looting, the magnifying glass icon opens a 'foraging' menu which shows the sun position, handy before finding a watch. 15. When choosing bags, encumbrance reduction is the most important factor. It is essentially the percentage of weight that the bag negates when an item is inside of it. 16. Drag and drop weapons onto your belt for easy access! You have a back slot for large weapons and two belt slots for small weapons. A holster can be obtained for handguns. 17. Sharp and Blunt damage are different! Sharp will damage clothing and armor but is higher overall, if you want something on the zombie- use blunt! (Crowbars are my favorite, god tier durability) 18a. Zoom your camera out all the way when exploring! If you can see them, they can see you! 18b. You can use aim to pan past your generic view distance, very handy for spotting zeds before entering their view range. (There is a setting for panning in cars when they go fast enough, I suggest you allow it!) 19. Keen Hearing trait is your friend. So is organized and dexterous! 20. Cars are not weapons! If you MUST use one to kill, try using the sides, protect that engine! 21. Three important things to remember about zeds. - Line of sight : Zeds will chase you as long as they can see you, if they lose sight they'll go to the last point they saw you! Luckily they can get aggro'd to doors, windows, and furniture. Use this to your advantage when running away to break up hordes into more manageable sizes. - Noise : Everything makes noise, and zeds LOVE noise! This can be used to draw them away from places you'd like to loot. - Momentum : After losing sight or following a sound in a certain direction, zeds will continue to move much of the time! They can continue on for 100 tiles, never go straight back to base with zeds on your tail. 22. The map has icons in the bottom right, the grid symbol will make it FLAT! Easier to read. Erasers let you delete, move, and edit markings you've made on it while pens, pencils, and crayons allow the use of different colors!
Always fun watching a newbie play this game. You also picked a perfect time to start playing since there's a massive update hopefully coming later this month.
I absolutely recommend knowing as little as possible about some mechanics in krder to make the game more fun. Sure it'd be harder but the content would be more fun by watching you stumble around the game while slowly learning different things. Also, use fences to cull smaller hordes but be careful since some zeds can lunge at you and make you fall back if you're too close.
i recommed to NOT go wit best buils. go with what you want for the character setup. the reason if you go for best your not playing your charcter its more like your playing someone elses. for example i went with a obese 50 year old firefighter that addicted to smokes. was game hard at start yeah it was till he lost weight .
