As much as I don’t like authors not describing their characters, I see a purpose in it. I feel like leaving the characters up to the readers imagination makes it feel like their story, like their living through it. They get to choose their characters, and this can make the experience more personalised. Edit: it took me a second reading and seeing cannon images to realise that Carlton was a read head and Jessica was a blonde (from The Silver Eyes) . It can be hard at first, but I grew to live the characters even more over this.
then again it feels really weird if u have to rethink everything you thought of because in the sixth book there's a small description that ruins evertything
I read it when I was 12 I went half way through the book thinking the main character was a girl and had a girl love interest. I was so let down when I realized.
Viii !!!! To be fair, Fiona was decently similar (ofc she does talk tho.) Hugh was more or less the same, though they did literally add in 2 extra characters (the gorgon twins) that were photos in the book. Edit: I meant Horace!!! Not Hugh!
I feel like the movie was just a fanfic of the books, with different characters just in the same universe, kind of like they imagined the school 20 odd years into the future if the bomb didn't hit the school.
Um... there were quite a few kids in this movie. Unless the main characters are supposed to be, like, pre-pubescent, then there's no problem with adding a couple years. Additionally, it's a Hollywood tradition that actors in their late teens, early 20s play younger kids because of contract hours. Minors can only work for a limited timespan. Adults don't have those kinds of restrictions.
The mortal instruments would be an interesting one with a wide range of characters at no good movie adaptations in my opinion, Loved this video I requested for miss peregrines before and you did such a good job!! 💕💕

This used to be my favorite movie/book a couple of years ago and I’m sooooo glad you made a By the Book episode for it. And yeah,I think it’s weird Emma and Olive were switched
Samuel L Jackson was also great and he really hams up his performance as the villain. But yea, the movie adaptation was mid, but had some great moments: Eva Green (she is absolutely charming), Samuel L Jackson (for reasons aforementioned) and having the perpetual levitation quirk include a small wind/air manipulation ability
Naomi Pleasant ah yes!! I guess I forgot goldfish have some pretty good thinkers, very on brand of me. Maybe I have a jellyfish memory since they don’t got any brains in the first place :0!
I feel like he didn't even actually read the book and just read the plot section on the wiki. Could explain why he made the absolutely TERRIBLE decision to switch Emma and Olive. Also something I find super weird is that Jacob dates his grandfather's ex. Out of context that is weird as fuck. Even *in* context it's weird as fuck.
Actually it’s clearly because a white man couldn’t stand a female being strong and powerful and have a personality and could have an attitude and not depending on a boy saving her...
And yah it’s because she was projecting her feelings on him and they broke up when they realised... and he basically immediately got with the newbie girl (who is one of my faves so no shade there) as if he NEEDS a romantic interest all the time... wtf...
If your talking about Kaminari, then not really. Sure he’s very energetic, and very goofy and good-natured, but he doesn’t give of the same chaotic yet well-mannered vibe that Willy Wonka does. Honestly, the character that gives off that energy that most would probably be Gentle Criminal. His name literally describes a gentle (like a gentleman) person who is a criminal, and a criminal is usually a person who does bad things, and usually in a chaotic way. Denki is just like the idiot everyone wants as a friend. Sure he doesn’t think his way through things, but he’s a great friend/ally to have on your side.
I'm pretty sure my parents wanted to strangle me after the movie was over because I pointed out every flaw that the movie had when compared to the book. I pointed out the Emma that the movie placed as a side character and said, "That's the love interest, she's amazing!" only for the movie to place Olive as the main character. I also started screaming when the ending hit, because they pretty much smashed the books together in certain aspects and added completely new things. Just like the adaptations of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Personally, I like the movie itself as a whole, and if there wasn't a book it would be more enjoyable. But since the film deviated so much from the books, it's just immeasurable.

@@amaraotiim3979 Yes that, and I think the couple years added to his age in the movie make his humor and personality make more sense to me, it's hard to picture a 13 year old saying the stuff he does even if he's actually over 100
@@evil-mf5bi Well yeah, but we know that the characters are aware of their age, because of that scene in the book where they were telling Jacob their real ages, although they don't act like old people. I think Enoch is one of the few characters that actually seems more mature than his physical body, and even Jacob thinks it's a bit unusual the way Enoch speaks and acts. There is this scene in the book, where "Dr Golan" found Jacob, Bronwyn, Emma, and Enoch with Martin's corpse in that fish place, and Enoch was saying an excuse. And Jacob said something along the lines of Enoch sounding like an actual 12 year old boy for once. Also, apologies for the long reply.

This movie got me to love Eva Green. Though, I think she would've looked equally as stunning if they had gone by the book and your depiction of her uwu.
Eva Green is amazing I think, as well as Asa Butterfield (he was already cool in Merlin :')). But for me, I actually like the movie, but see it as another project than the books... Cause everything is different, the whole plot. Still, I like the movie, its interesting and they pictured things quite well. With a completely different story, though, and I think the ending of the movie isn't as good as the "ending" in the books was like.... :(
Do you know Kingdom of Heaven? She plays very well there *and is pretty handsome, too*, and it's a nice movie to watch, an interesting portrayal, even though a lot, especially about her Character isn't historically correct.
She actually wore a similar costume in the penny dreadful show... which now that I think about it may actually have been a reason for the change(?) Like, maybe they didn't want people confusing the characters or smn.
i will never stop yelling about how they just straight up switched olive and emma in the movie for no apparent reason and like all the characters in the book are so fun and cool they didn't have to go ahead and change them all so drastically. like millard is older and if i remember correctly had a much bigger role in the book?? and instead they made enoch be older in the movie???? what's up with their weird obsession with switching characters

There are graphic novels? I thought Percy Jackson was the only main book series with a Graphic novel (And they did mah boi Will terrible in the PJO graphic novels, so-)., and Artemis Fowl (I don’t even wanna talk about it.) I should check out the Ms. Peregrine’s graphic novels, hopefully they’re good!
I think instead of a gray/black shading, she opted for a dark blue/purple because it gives a closer sensation to dark black, rather than maybe a neutral black (like a browser in night mode).
I think it's because of the black lineart. Dark blue was also used as black back in the time of black and white films to gain contrast between shadow and light. This is still pretty common in the film industry.
u wouldn't be able to see the drawing's detail if it was in all black - and some shades of black (esp old fabrics) tend to fade and have that blue shade sometimes
Swapping Emma and Olive in the movie made me so uncomfortable, it was one of my favourite book series for a long time and having a character who was described as looking like a child basically become a love interest to an almost adult (I can’t remember Jacob’s age but I assume he was 16-17) just rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm also kind of mad because Olive in the movie was a very sensitive and gentle person. But then Emma in the book (they switched names but its the same person im talking about) had a very upbeat, confident and fiery personality.
The switch of olive and Emma is the single most annoying thing. I’m pretty sure they changed it because they didn’t like the idea of Emma being a strong, female lead so gave her less power and made her less aggressive.
The Book: The Golden Compass The Movie: The Golden Compass (they messed up the characters so bad, the book was so good though) Also Inkheart the book was made into a movie and they destroyed the plot and twisted the characters terribly.

I saw the movie and actually find it good but couldn't really compare to the books since my memories lost themselves too) Anyway, is it a good adaptation? Cause obviously imma buy the book again to read it
Could u ever make a part 2 for this book or make one for each book since there’s 3? Cause the movie even cut out a LOT of story and some rlly IMPORTANT characters
I want to see How To Train Your Dragon. While I get that pretty much the only similarity between the books and the movies are a handful of the names, the movie did seem to be trying to keep several of the characters’ appearances somewhat the same.
Not sure which ones you’ve done yet, but some interesting ones would be: Percy Jackson The mortal instruments (shadow hunters). Maze runner Narnia The giver The outsiders
I love this book series, but the movie was really disappointing. Switching Emma and Olive was the biggest thing, but what they did with the ship and adding the whole extra part at the end was just too much.

When I read the book and realized that they had switched Emma and Olive for no god damn reason in the movie, I didn’t even want to watch it anymore and I’m so glad I didn’t lol bc it would’ve ruined the story for me
@@discount_dora Burton changed Emma and Olive because it was more poetic, and thankfully the author thought it was a better concept and loved it. You say there was no reason to do it but as you've not seen the movie you're not in a position to say it was done for no reason, if you watch the movie it's very obvious why it as done, so it had a purpose. Good film, i'm glad it's nothing like the book! i would however like a proper tv adaptation of the books instead.
I've never read it either... I want to though...
The Emma Olive switch pissed me off so much lmao, in the movie they basically took Olive, aged her up and replaced her with Emma, they're both my favorite characters in the book, and it was just so unnecessary
EXACTLY olive was like 6 or 5 and aged her up into 16! and now emma is just a side character that doesn't add anything big into the story anymore :(
Innit I loved Emma so much in the book and I was very disappointed when they made the switch because I was looking forward to her in the movie
Are we not going to talk about the absolute atrocity they did to my girl Fiona??? Like I don’t dislike the movie but where is my wild haired, plant controlling, chicken holding queen??? Who is this girl scout looking thing with pigtails? They did her so dirty, the worst imo
yeah i hated that too...but like the twins are literally nightmare creatures that were killed in the earlier hollowgast raids and like...why are they main characters!?!?! I personally think Bronwyn was done the most dirty bc she was supposed to be "more of a mother to the young ones than even Miss Peregrine" and in the movie shes literally a little girl. and olive and enoch??? like they're cute in the movie but they're both supposed to be like 10 and 11, and nOT A COUPLe. I have a lot of thoughts im so sorry
LMAO YES. i remember watching the movie and loving it, then going to comment section of the trailer for the movie and literally finding hate everywhere. i was like *whAT??? BUT ITS GOOD* so i read the books and *gODDAMN IT BURTON WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT*

This is how i usually do it when reading books so when a movie cones out, it's terrible trying to sit through it XD
Unless you have aphantasia, then you’re just left with nothing

I read it when I was 12 I went half way through the book thinking the main character was a girl and had a girl love interest. I was so let down when I realized.
Ngl I was hoping she would have done Enoch because like... he literally looks like a whole different age in the movie than he appears in the book
And Hugh, Fiona, THE FUCKING HOLLOWS
It felt like they swapped millard and enoch in ages and it just sucked
Viii !!!!
To be fair, Fiona was decently similar (ofc she does talk tho.) Hugh was more or less the same, though they did literally add in 2 extra characters (the gorgon twins) that were photos in the book.
Edit: I meant Horace!!! Not Hugh!
Weren't Fiona and Hugh way older? I remember them saying and stuff in the books and I always pictured them maybe even older than Jacob
They made him 17 not the obnoxious 13 yearold he is in the book.
I feel like the movie was just a fanfic of the books, with different characters just in the same universe, kind of like they imagined the school 20 odd years into the future if the bomb didn't hit the school.
Someone who ships jake with olive instead of Emma and was like yeah no this is all gonna change
Basically My Immortal: The Movie.
WHY WERE NONE OF THE KIDS ACTUALLY KIDS
ITS LITERALLY IN THE TITLE NOT EVERY CHARACTER HAS TO BE HOT
Yes exactly!
Hyena Hearts, exactly
Um... there were quite a few kids in this movie.
You thought those guys were hot though?
DigiDestined13 Edgar was 10 in the original and Olive was 9...they just aged them up so they could shove another couple in the mix

OMG YES! I HATED the changes that the movie made. Totally took away the charm of the book.
I really liked the movie but the book was so much better. It does take a bit to get used to the movie but it was very well made even if the changes were very drastic.
as a book reader first, i really love miss peregrine’s movie design and personality, it is obviously so different from the book but it added this charm to the house.

As a Bnha fan ... Kami already kinda does? Soooo yeah.

I pointed out the Emma that the movie placed as a side character and said, "That's the love interest, she's amazing!" only for the movie to place Olive as the main character. I also started screaming when the ending hit, because they pretty much smashed the books together in certain aspects and added completely new things.

Here. I’m not very far into the series, but I love it already.
Isabella
Bro when those demons popped out i shat my pants. It wasn’t a good look
WAIT I JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING!! There are graphic novel adaptations of the books that are in color!! They leave out some parts of the book, but for the most part I think they’re pretty accurate!! I recommend checking them out!!
This movie scared me and my dad 😅
I loved it though
It was just hard seeing these creatures eating eyes, though that’s kind of what makes the movie and book so good!
Also I liked the black and white images in the book because it lets the reader color in the picture with there mind.
I still absolutely loved your drawings and style! It made the entire experience of looking back so much better 😁
69 likes 🤣
omg same, I specifically got scared when that one kid suddenly woke up from the bed lmao
Sameee, I wasn't prepared to see the eyeballs and some other scenes, but I did find the movie very charming
EchoPlays oml Imma die 😂
No one:
Lavender at 5:45 : I cant draw the hands.. lemme just cover them. 🙈
By the book: The Mortal Instruments. I think that could be really entertaining to watch
YES!!! The movie was actually pretty good the only problem was that you HAD to read the books to understand the movie so nobody else got what was going on
Yesss please. I'll laugh at valentim
@Emma Duarte and in the movie, black hair and braids 🤣
Half of my soul was consumed by a hollowgast when I watched the movie.
My whole soul was. Literally could’ve cried at the ending when I saw how much they changed anything. I was like, you did this... for what?
Hollowgast don't take half of your soul. They take your 2nd soul. If you have one. 🤭
They took both my souls and I cried to death
i hated that movie
they didnt even get that right
I would love to see how you'd draw The Outsiders, I know there are some differences between how the book describes them and how the cast looks, like Dallas Winstons hair colour
Omigosh yeeeesss!!!
Soda looked like he was Dallas' illegitimate twin in the movie
I agree with that I love the book and the movies wasn't all that good about some of the characters description
Yes
i remember having a pirate copy of the book, i never saw the images, they were just black rectangles 😭
His Dark Materials, maybe?
Not enough people talk about Lyra's hair color in the series adaptation-
HBO and bbc tv show I hope you mean
Mrs Coulter would be interesting, given that the author decided to change her dark hair to blonde after the movie came out
So both adaptations manage to get it wrong somehow
There’s an adaptation other than the movie..? I remember reading that series and it was very.. strange and most of it went right past me n I’ve forgotten a lot. A very strange series (not particularly in a bad way)
Hopefully she does this! But only the bbc show, not the film that we will never speak of 😁😂
Omg I need to see this show! I read the books when I was 6 or 7 maybe.. Very early actually then somehow they got lost! I saw the movie and actually find it good but couldn't really compare to the books since my memories lost themselves too)
Anyway, is it a good adaptation? Cause obviously imma buy the book again to read it
Could u ever make a part 2 for this book or make one for each book since there’s 3? Cause the movie even cut out a LOT of story and some rlly IMPORTANT characters
I would really like to see Coraline or Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe
「Mike」 yes, Coraline is SO different from the book, which is underrated. It made me angry watching the film.
I want to see How To Train Your Dragon. While I get that pretty much the only similarity between the books and the movies are a handful of the names, the movie did seem to be trying to keep several of the characters’ appearances somewhat the same.
@ApenasumaARMY BR Coraline is not a tim burton's movie, it's henry selick's.
@ApenasumaARMY BR tim burton isn't involved in coraline's making at all
There’s actually an official graphic novel made by the author and its shown in there how they cannonly look!
When you said that the miniskirt was invented in the 80’s
*that hurt my soul*
(It was popularized by supermodels like Twiggy in the 60’s)
Oh my god, I thought I was the only one who knew that-
Not sure which ones you’ve done yet, but some interesting ones would be:
Percy Jackson
The mortal instruments (shadow hunters).
Maze runner
Narnia
The giver
The outsiders
She’s already done Percy Jackson
the outsiders has a movie!?
Shadow hunters woooohooooo
I'd love to see a narnia one
maze runner maze runner maze runner maze runner
I love this book series, but the movie was really disappointing.
Switching Emma and Olive was the biggest thing, but what they did with the ship and adding the whole extra part at the end was just too much.
I remember being very upset and confused when he switched the characters.
The book “Eragon” would be cool
Yesss
YES. THEY RUINED MY GIRL ARYA.
NOOOO I TOTALLY FORGOT I READ THAT. you brought back feelings.
NOOOO I TOTALLY FORGOT I READ THAT. you brought back feelings.
Yeah pls! It was the worst movie adaption I had ever seen!
miniskirts were invented in the 60s, not the 80s.
I actually thought the same thing when she said that
They were invented earlier, but became famous in the 60s :)
@@LadyBlackVamp Yeah. The article of clothing has kind of always been around, but the name mini and it's everyday popularity was a 60s thing.
Im glad someone else is as mad as I was when I first saw the movie lol
Hunter many people are angry 😂
C e r m e t
The movie was just really sad to watch after reading the books
I know it doesn’t have a movie, but the characters in the Be More Chill book, compared to the characters in the musical
Yes please
I love that musical never read the book tho
