- A gigantic generator on a journey through the narrow villages of Germany.
A three hundred and ninety ton giant on a daring journey: A team of german heavy-lift-specialists have to transport a generator from a disused coal plant to its new operation site - 120 kilometers away. Sounds easy - but the weight and dimensions of twelve-million euro generator pose a gruelling challenge for everyone involved.
The gigantic, modular transport structure that hauls the colossus, requires constant modification while en route in order to overcome the distance to the next power plant. First obstacle to tackle is the small, winding country roads from Voerde. Then, a pontoon is taking the stator a smooth eighty kilometers down the Rhine. But after that comes the most difficult part of this already challenging route: with ramshackle bridges, tight roundabouts and steep curves ahead.
It’s a race against time. The necessary permits are only valid for ten days which gives our team just long enough to deliver this 390-ton beast…but that’s under ideal conditions and Mega Transports are rarely ideal!
The team has to fight against heavy rain, technical problems and unexpected changes of plan. Nine months of planning. Ten nerve-wracking days full of tension. And a budget of one million euros…

Why dont all these videos have the same title? Theres "Most Dangerous Journeys", "Most Dangerous Roads" and now this. It would me much easier to find them.
Mate i drove throug the center of Dubln one day and i sàw 2 police man and ,it looked like a farmer trying to get a donķey in the back of astra suze outside the police station, you really have to see it to believe it,welcome tothe world. Yeah all the other videos are great, sometimes cringing over some voice-over stuff (imho). But man these transport series really has that ''And it's a real challenge!'' narrative going on ....

What bothers me is that the script insists on boring on about the tight schedule every couple of minutes. One schedule reference every twelve minutes would be ample.
Considering the amount of 'problems', 'challenges' and 'milestones', and the fact that they are 'against the clock' because 'time is ticking', its truly staggering they acheived this 'monumental task'. 'Safeley'
If they ever make a documentary about saving the Earth from an incoming asteroid, it will definitely not be recommended for people with poor heart condition.
@@vvm1989 well judging by pace of space technology development (putting spacex aside here,their development speed is impressive) it may be no people at all left to do and watch such documentary.
Indeed, a lot of ‘manufactured’ tension...
This is just a TV show, all people appeared are actors, and all situations happened are all planned and calculated for dramatic purposes. In reality the transport goes smoothly like a breeze......haha just kidding.
I love these you can really feel how tense the workers are, the translation seems very well done. Im more invested in these transport documentaries than any netflix show at the moment xD
That stuff on Netflix isn't worth $13/mo.

This is why Germany is known for precise engineering with good equipments and over 1.89 million engineer's in the country it is biggest country in the Europe having such engineer's... Really good documentary .

The degree of difficulty in the making of such documentaries goes hand in hand with the logistics involved with the moves! Video and audio recording in tough conditions, without interfering with the movers, translation and narration - it is easy to take such things for granted. Hats off to all involved in making a monumental bit of work a bit of monumental entertainment for us to supervise from our easy chairs! 😊😊😊

Voerde West power station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 712 MW. The plant was completed between 1970 and 1971, and is owned by KSBG.
We made this generator, just to make this episode.

I’ll admit I have no formal education on generators of this size so call me crazy, but why wouldn’t they be able to transport the unit in pieces and assemble it at its final location? My education being mechanical and structural engineering, I can’t imagine why this could not be transported far more simply and cost effectively.
The piece they transported was just one piece of a larger generator; specifically, the stator. Building a stator is time-intensive, highly technical, and requires a relatively clean area. As such, it’s cheaper to transport it in one large piece than try to assemble it on site.

ronz k has to be, if it was set up to steer with the front truck by the time the front has straightened out ,the end of the load will think it’s on a straight bit of road even though it hasn’t made it past the corner or roundabout etc if that makes sense

I've always been surprised operation like this can be more profitable than just building the facility and factory to build what's needed in the general location of were its intended.

Every little detail thought about and simulated too minimise or eliminate any problems! Literally within the first 20 minutes.... it’s been raining heavily the last couple of days and the grass verges just outside of the power plant are very soft..... we are delayed for a while as we wait for some metal support plates to arrive to place over the soft verges. Haha... yeh all the little details thought about lol.
