A couple of Starlink tips: 1. Disconnect the dish from the stand and cable, run the cable up through the hole in the middle of the stand, plug into dish and set the dish back into the stand. This avoids the right angle kink where the cable comes out. 2. Mid term plan … Watch TH-cam videos on disabling the positioning motor, do it and mount the dish flat/horizontal. This avoids loss of signal when the dish tries to move to compensate for rolling seas (not necessary). 3. Long term plan … get kit to convert Starlink to 12VDC which reduces amount of power consumed when running off the inverter.

Okay. Have watched you guys and your progress from the start. Love what you’ve done and continue doing. Sigh, how do I say this delicately? BEN PUT ON EAR PROTECTION WHEN USING POWER TOOLS! 72 years old now with over fifty years of carpentry and building experience and I really regret the fact that I didn’t take care of my hearing better. You don’t know what you are missing until it’s gone. Young and invincible attitude doesn’t cut it. Speaking from experience when I say please protect your hearing! Love watching all of you and the progress you have made with Yaba.

❤I agree completely. Hearing aids are expensive and a total pain! Plus, only the most expensive ones compensate for different amounts of hearing loss across different frequencies.

    • @steveknight878

Definitely. I regret not using hearing protection much over my life. Would have made a huge difference. Hearing loss and tinnitus are not fun.
But not just ear protection. Proper support of what you are working on is well worth it. A hand, finger or arm can be lost so quickly and easily.

Starlink is great, but their router is weak. Works way better and faster if you order their router delete adapter and send the signal through a wifi6 or wifi7 mesh router.

I can remember back a year or so ago waiting for the day when you could enjoying yourselves scuba diving from Yabá! That is now being realized! Isn't it great! I'm guessing you will be remaining in that area for quite awhile as you finish off things on the boat to the point you can go back and offer your shipwrights a nice day of sailing on the boat they built!
I love seeing your dogs enjoying a better life! I saw a bandage on Caillou's right hand! Did he step on something in the boat yard? Did we see MP's mother on board also, feeding her daughter?!
I was cruising with a friend a few years ago up the St. John River in New Brunswick, CN. We anchored in a nice cove off one of the 4 lakes that go off to one side of the river over the course of 20 miles up the river.. The Tayana V-42 has a rounded stern so the boat has a really nice custom stainless steel ladder that hooks on to the toe rail for debarking and embarking the boat. Some guys came into the cove on a large jet ski and were zooming around circling the boat at high speed. Eventually, they left and the boat eventually stopped bouncing around from the wakes. Then we noticed that the ladder was gone and must have been splashed hard by the wake waves. The boat had moved around on its anchor rode from the wave action so we really didn't know where to start looking. The water was too murky to see anything as there is not any current in the lakes to wash silt sediment away. Water depth was about 15'. My friend hooked up a portable depth sounder to the dinghy and tried to run a square search pattern all around the boat's likely positions. He passed over what could possible be a sonar return that was a little shallower than the surrounding bottom. So he threw over the small dinghy fluke anchor and started dragging it across that area. In about 45 minutes he hooked something and knew it was the ladder because it was SO heavy! He pulled it up into the dinghy and got it back on board the boat! Then he set about changing the way it fastened it to the toe rail! Hope you can find your Evinrude! An engine safety line is always a good idea.

I’d like to add to the call for better safety preparedness. If the motor/engine doesn’t start and bad weather rolls the seas and blows you into whatever is out there in your path, boat could capsize; motor toward island, fog closes in and if motor doesn’t crank right up and you have no survival gear to help you. Y’all need to have the Plan B ready to use. Life is short and it gets shorter doing without a care for your safety. I’m not saying to live in fear, I’m saying cover your ass better before the pooh happens to hit the fan. There are too many things that exist beyond your control. Be safe to continue the dream please.

Hey Ben,make sure that you use some sort of gasket or the like to isolate the water hose and drain hose from the plywood in the floor/walls.That hose is going to chafe and then you’ll have more water in your bilge than you really want. And you’ll have to replace the hose(hoses)because of the leak or leaks !

So good to see you taking a break from your boat work. I would try to separate the wet area as much as possible from the loo, even a partial screen & a plastic curtain would contain the water and help the area dry out more quickly. It will make a 'dry loo' accessible much more quickly. You may need some fans or an extractor fan, that way the damp air can be removed without getting into the rest of the boat and causing damp spots. Do you have space for a hanging locker for wet things?

You can rest the boom on one side of the wheelhouse roof. This might be enough to prohibit the anchor chain from chafing against the bobstay. I think you should have the boom on the opposite side of the anchor chain.

Years ago I replaced using a "speed square" with a 'bevel gauge' in my carpentry. The advantage is the bevel gauge copies the exact angle while the "speed" square gives you an approximate number. When working with veteran framers in a team, many thought their speed square would be faster but when compared, the bevel gauge was both faster and more accurate. Once convinced, I have gifted a bevel square to 'new converts." 😇

If you want better accuracy when measuring from a mark start at 2,3,or 4 inch mark of the tape flat on the starting mark and just subtract whatever you started at and you will eliminate any innacuracy from starting at the elevated clip at the tape start.

Running in the fog is always nerve-wracking :/ When backing down on your anchor, instead of relying on a shoreside mark to tell you when you've dug in, try using the GPS and wait for it to read 0.0 SOG. This way you will be certain when you stop moving :))

an interesting fact, your anchor rope on your dingy will not get tangled in a bucket. Drill a hole near the bottom of a bucket, string the rope through, attach the anchor and drop the anchor ooverboard. When you retreve the anchor just stuff the rope into the bucket in small loops. the rope will not tangle!

Your fantail is a better place to work, as opposed to your epoxied decks and cabin roof. I would recommend some variety of clamps. perhaps even some older wood ones, easier on the boat surfaces. You might think of getting some infrared binoculars.

Good morning, I have been following you guys, I saw the episode where you lost your outboard, just a bit of advise you must secure the engine to the boat. A simple ring bolt bolted through the transom and small piece of rope tied to the ring bolt and to the steering bar on the engine will ensure your engine will never fall off as long as you secure it. I live in Trinidad and I am a retired seaman, I last worked in Brazil out of a city called Macae, on supply boats for five years. Good luck.

Liked the diving. Too bad the water weren’t that clear where the engine dropped.

just a suggestion I would put that on top of the mass, and I mean that hippity tippy top of one of them, get a extension cable to go from the top and go into your cabin where you have your Wi-Fi router. To keep it out of the way and stop it from getting damage I would think that would be the best place for, but hey whatever floats your boat I would have never talked about how and to that toilet was done, but your boat your rules have a fantastic time and it looks pretty awesome to see you guys on that boat in the water

Ben remember you will always need access to through hulls valves pipes and clips. Nothing that can fail or might need access should be under or behind a glassed up area. Don't build defeats into your boat ... Bathrooms and fitted kitchens are troublesome in houses and more so in boats.. domestic
Braided stainless steel flexy hoses have limited life spans and I've seen someone's house stairway turned into a waterfall whilst they popped out to go shopping ..or in the middle of the night. 😬
If you install a shower drain in the floor you need one with a top loading..lift out filter trap. So you can remove hair and small objects without lifting the floor or getting in underneath. 🧙🏻‍♂️ Just ask me how I know that one .
The other is the trap has to feed into a separate pumped out sump box. Or it can flood your bilges and pumps and it will smell bad.

I do not own a table saw and when I want to cut plywood I use my skill saw as you guys do too. But this tip you may like. I use like 4 or 5 pieces of 1 x 2 x 4ft wood strips and lay them down on my driveway. Then lay the plywood on top of the strips. I place two strips close together right where I am cutting. And the others for support. Set the blade height accordingly. So if you this method you can just cut on the rear deck while a bit safer and get more accurate cuts too. Happy sailing!

Hi guys, awesome to see you guys hard at it again, Ben I’m really pleased you’ve made things much more comfortable for MP. Tell me guys, now that you’s have pretty well settled into the second phase of the journey with Yaba is it what you expected, or better, or worse. For my mind I have really missed the guys at the shipyard and the daily routine there but I’m also enjoying this stage as well which I was concerned about because I thought maybe my interest would waiver whereas the opposite has occurred. Also, how are the dogs coping with sea life, I know you guys get them ashore at every chance but have you noticed any changes in them. Well done again guys, you’re the best. Safe journeys

Y’all sure should have looked at an airless toilet. But good luck with all the plumbing and pressure system. Could have saved a great deal of money. Love y’all

    Pedro Nunes

When you tow a dinghy, make sure it's attachment point cannot fail or use two points. Use two tow lines; a floating polypropylene line and a nylon line with a float on it positioned so it keeps the line from the prop. Losing the dinghy or rope fouling the ships prop is an emergency to be avoided.
