    A very enjoyable video this week. Your garden is really coming along nicely. The expression on Vera’s face was funny when Johan asked her what she thought of the boat🙂. I agree with Johan’s epoxy over Vinyl rationale. Keep up the good work guys.

  • @foamboy66
    @foamboy66 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Great work! Epoxy, having a slower cure time is both stiffer, stronger, as well as less brittle over the long term than both vinyl and polyester ( the later actually becomes porous over a period of time). You have made the right choice. Another quality video!

    Beautiful boat to view for ideas. I have a 42 foot pilothouse boat myself and a design change I made was to raise the pilothouse salon seats so that you can see out clearly while sitting. On a passage you don’t want to be sitting in the companionway or the captain chair, but be relaxing and watching from the comfortable bench seat with the autopilot steering. I’m not sure why you cannot see out from most seating in pilothouse boats, but I sure am glad I raised mine up about one foot from the original plans.

    It is good that you use epoxy resin, it is nice to watch when you do not save on important things and are built from high -quality materials. A small increase in price due to epoxy resin is given by many advantages of which the main one of which is the feeling of reliability and durability of the boat.

    The sail must have been reassuring that you picked the right designer. The deck house is great. It keeps the crew safe in bad conditions and comfortable no matter the conditions. The build is moving along nicely. In my opinion, your choice of using epoxy was the right one. The bond between the wood and the glass using epoxy is far superior. I built a boat in the 90s when the price of epoxy compared to any alternative was 2 to 1, and she is still sailing today without a single sign of delamination or water penitraing the epoxy to the wood. Thanks for taking us along.

      They have twins and I think they need to duplicate the Bicycle Seat you built for your daughter to sit in the cockpit of your previous boat. They obviously will need 2 Bicycle seats to sail their Amel.

    I’m also working exclusively with Epoxy (food grade on my boat project), and since I’m working always in very good ventilated areas, I haven’t even taken any precaution (like respirators), and have not developed any allergies so far. However, I use a different product for fairing, which is not food grade, and this one does not give me allergies with breathing, or skin reactions, but bothers me with slimy eyes for a couple of days. However, once this fairing material is cured, it does not have any negative effect anymore.

      Yes. I do not like blind spots in cockpit/doghouse. The first thing I noticed about this boat was the 360° visibility .
      So many boats have extremely limited visibility from enclosed areas. I find it very unpleasant not to be able to see what’s going on outside the boat.

    I'm always impressed with your remarkable content, quality of cinematography and wholesome lifestyle and this episode did not disappoint. Studying the legend Naval Architect, Ulf Rogeberg many designs, RAN III will be not only aesthetically beautiful but seaworthy and fast. You have certainly done your homework, the sail aboard the Scandi 42 indicated just how far Ulf has come since graduating from New Castle University located in Tyne, England. Love the concept of the doghouse control station and light weight interior construction with strength. The cork decks are breath taking. Who will design your mast and rigging, which will be a tremendous burden financially. Locally, the Deerfoot 70 "Ipanema" is being built from a Rogerberg design in Thomaston, Maine, USA close to home here. She looks like a stretched Ran III. The farm is getting a remodeling job and looks stunning. Thanks for sharing!
