Great video Paul! I've 2 way synced my Todoist app to my google calendar which is great, but any idea if Todoist tasks can sync with Google Tasks? Thanks. Appreciate the help
The Google Calendar integration is easy enough to set up, but syncing from Todoist directly with Tasks is substantially more complex. The only things I can think of that might be able to do something like that would be services like IFTTT or SyncPenguin. I haven't tried to do this, but if anything could do it, it would be a service like these. Given that both of these tools are essentially competing with each other for the same user base, I don't think they would ever make it easy to sync them unfortunately.
Hi Paul, thank you for the video. Is there a feature to add tasks quickly when we are opening another window? (other than Chrome?) for example from the desktop or are we opening another application but we need to add a task quickly so we don't forget? Thank you.
I don't know of any way to do that on the desktop natively. I've seen some people mention installing the webpage as a PWA, but this I guess is technically still opening a window for it. If I need to add a quick task, I am usually doing that on my mobile to be honest. On Android, I keep a widget readily available on my homescreen. It features a button where I can add an item without needing to open the full application.
@@paulomalley Thank you for your answer. Yeah, I need that feature. Right now I using Ticktick, but if Google task can add that feature, it would be nice. Thank you Paul.
No worries. Funnily enough, since I made this video, Google Tasks has now rolled out a full screen Tasks view that wasn't there only a few months ago. I don't expect Google to roll out apps for Windows if I am being perfectly honest... But you never know.
i never used google calencer cause it asks me to put something for the future. but what i use calenders for is marking down work that i done at my job like a diary. can google calenders be used this way? i would rather view my work history via a calender than on notes. i can quickly see what days i worked and not worked and how many hours and extra notes. can google calender be used for that purpose? if not ill need to buy a paper back calender from walmart. i'd rather have it on my phone.
Hi There! There is nothing in Google Calendar that would prevent you from adding events in the past. You could theoretically add in an event once you have completed it (eg: Proposal for Customer Y - 9am-11am). You could even colour code them if you wanted to make it easier to pinpoint the amount of time you worked on different types of tasks etc. These events would all be able to sync to your phone also.
Unfortunately there is no way (at this time) to attache a file to your tasks. But theoretically, if the file was saved to a cloud service such as Google Drive, you could grab the share link for the file and simply paste that in as a note in the task... That would give you the ability to easily get to the relevant file at any point. You would also get the benefit this way that if the file is ever changed or edited in Google Drive, the link in Tasks would still be pointing to the most recent version of the file.
@@skd1965 Oh absolutely! I hope they do. I have been using the link option myself, but it would definitely be useful to attach files to a task. That is something I miss from the old Wunderlist application.
Unfortunately, at this point in time, Google Tasks does not offer the option to do something like this. Hopefully they add it in soon as I agree it would be great to have.
Google Tasks doesn't support this natively, but the site that I show toward the end of this video (Tasksboard) does offer this. When your tasks are open in Tasksboard, you can use the ellipsis menu on any list and select the share option. The URL you get can then be shared to others to collaborate on. There are limits on the free plan, but it can be done.
How do I make tasks repeat only for a specific period? For example, I want to read a specific book and finish it for 15 days. I want the task to stop reminding me after 15 days. Is there a possibility to do this?
Yeah. This is possible. When you set the task, you can select the repeat option and choose to have it repeat until a set date or after a specific number of occurrences. So if you want to be reminded to do something each day for two weeks, you can set it to be a daily reminder that ends after 14 occurrences. Check out the section in the video at about 3 minutes in. This should help you achieve this.
I do not believe there is an option to do so since assigning a task to a user essentially makes it part of their calendar. Also, since it is a single task, once one person completes it, it would disappear for all the others if you had everyone connected to it. I think the optimal solution here would be to duplicate the task and assign a different person to each version of the task.
It is possible for their to be different options here depending on things like consumer vs workspace accounts etc, but task has always been there in my experience. On my work account for example, I also see things like Out of Office and Focus Time as well.
This video was made using a consumer version of Google Calendar. Not a paid Workspace account. I'm not too sure if there is a way to force the change for your account, but I was prompted to add Tasks as 'calendar' in Google Calendar a few months back whereas it previously was completely separate. I wonder if that is what triggered it for me.
Unfortunately, at this time it does not look like there is a native search function for Tasks. But if you leverage the Tasksboard site that I demonstrate towards the end of the video, there is a search bar there that can be used to search through all of your Tasks.
This is a very good video if you want to learn how to use Google Tasks.
Super-clear description. Thanks.
This was exactly what I needed, thanks!

This stupid app, Google Tasks, doesn't allow sorting by alphabetical order, something so simple. It's infuriating.
Did you check out Tasksboard (which I feature near the end of the video)?
It has lots of sorting options for your tasks, including alphabetical.
