      Mind if I ask something? Japanese udon and Malaysian laksa rice noodle, are they similar? Any differences? I'm Malaysian btw. Just curious. Haha. Cheers!

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi The Perogol, thanks for watching and commenting! Hope you enjoyed this video. Udon is a lot denser and chewier in texture than Malaysian laksa rice noodles which we find quite light and much softer 😄 You should definitely try it one day mate! Cheers, Sheena

    Did you know that "kere" ꦏꦺꦫꦺ in Javanese means "derelict"? It usually refers to vagrants. Sate kere is so named because it was considered a poor man's satay.
    And you're right about the empal ꦲꦼꦩ꧀ꦥꦭ꧀ (spiced fried beef). It is usually braised for around 5 hours before left to marinate for about 10-12 hours. The dark colored paste is called petis ꦥꦼꦠꦶꦱ꧀. The most common variant has boiled shrimp as its main component, but the one you had is made with beef stock.

    Gosh. That was a lot of peanut sauce. 😳 I love blanched veg so I'd definitely go for the nasi pecel...even with all that dressing! The fat skewers were interesting indeed. Some ribeye steaks have large areas of fat in addition to the marbling. Many people discard it but when cooked right (crispy on the outside) the fat is delicious...although I eat it with the lean. Several skewers of all fat might be a bit much. 😀 Excellent day, guys. Hope all is well.

      Hi Tosh, hahahaha yes- after that many skewers of pure fat, we were done!! 😝 That nasi pecel was delicious- we found the peanut sauce quite light and it didn't overwhelm the vegetables which was great. 😍😍😍😍😍 thanks so much Erika! That's such a lovely thing to say! We were just talking about the very questions you asked with our family last night over dinner! We were saying that intestines are a real favourite of ours and when cooked well are delicious! I think the best ones we ever ate were in Uruguay, done on a wood fired bbq at our friend's house. I'm not really fussed on the blood cake that you often find in noodle soups in places like Thailand- I'm just not keen on the texture. Thomas doesn't really like kidney or liver too much although he will eat it. In terms of things we've seen where we've thought no way- just whale in Japan as we're really anti commercial whaling. We'll try pretty much anything unless we have moral reasons for not doing so 😄 So glad you are enjoying our content Erika, it makes us really happy to hear that! Have a great week ahead and thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena

      Hi Muhammad Fiqih, thanks for watching mate. The premise of our channel is to show some of the best food we can find in the cities we visit so a lot of research goes into what stalls and food we film. We don’t just rock up to any old place and film so 99% of the time the food is fantastic. If something is not to our taste we will say but if it’s no good we usually just put the camera down. No one wants to see us whinging about bad food and many of the businesses we film are mom and pop restaurants or street stalls. We don’t feel it’s our place or fair for us to post a video with a negative experience and potentially affect their business. Hope that makes sense. Cheers, Sheena
