This studio is amazing. Encountered a game breaking bug in DOS:EE. No one encountered it before. Npc somehow joined our party but no way to control them or remove them. By the time we realized it wouldn't fix itself we were 15 hours in. In frustration finally sent email to Larian on a Friday evening not expecting a response till Monday. Support team replied in 30 mins. Couldn't fix it but they used dev console and "killed" Bellagrette the NPC. Proceeded to do this 7 more times till we finished my first play through. This game is 7 years old and they support it like its brand new. This company loves thier games. And it shows and I will continue to support them as long as they show this much love to players.

"The end goal is to make this very big RPG that will dwarf them all, is what I call it ..." As of July 19, 2023, 15 days before the release of Baldur's Gate 3, I believe this will be the game Swen was talking about. Anyway, one thing is certain since the first game I played from them Divine Divinity : they put their passion into all the games they make. Makes you feel a little more for the indie devs, who wont put out a rushed unpolished game like Larian. With pennies in their pocket compared to an EA, Konami or Ubisoft. They don't stick their games with a bunch of nonsense microtransactions. They don't put out a 100 DLC packages at 5 or 10 bucks each. DOS2 got a big discount just two days after I bought it. I felt zero regret for having bought it at full price because of the insane amount of content they put in. It makes me truly happy to be a small part of supporting them - and that feeling only got stronger when I heard their story and realized how much they put on the line for years. A heartfelt thanks to Swen and Larian.
I agree with you (I have even bought the game thrice, for PS4, Switch, and Steam). But I don not agree with "the trash games I see people throwing money" part because that's more subjective, and depends more of what you like or not. Even if for a majority of people a game is not that "good", if that individual person enjoys it, then it's not really throwing money at at trash game. Not everyone likes the same things. Don't be so self centered.

Larian is an amazing studio, it's really awesome to see how much they do care about the RPGs they make and how much passion they have for their job. Thanks for the doc, guys!
I have a friend who doesn't play games but everytime she knew I was playing DOS2 she would ask me what happened story-wise. Did Ifan fulfill his contract? Did Sebille get her vengeance? Does Fane know? Lohse is free now? In the end she came to love a game she never played and cared for characters she had only heard of. That's powerful story telling, right there.
To make a very big RPG to dwarf them all, I think he is getting his wish with Baldurs Gate 3. Good luck, as a BG fan, I can’t wait to see his dream come to life.

I have stopped playing vid games for a while until I bought Divinity original sin 2, thank you. Wow you have really worked hard for this, you have my support
I bought Divine Divinity way back in the day and loved it. Afterwards, I bought every divinity game by Larian. In the very first game, there was a dialogue sequence in one of the graveyards about the nature of truth. I initially discounted it as a bunch of meta physical nonsense, but it stuck in my head and I kept on thinking about it. I didn't know it at the time, but that would be the seed which caused me to pursue a minor in philosophy.
"How can we make something better that DOS:II" -> proceeds to make Baldur's Gate 3. Also i've quite enjoyed this documentary, i've known Larian games for a long time, but i only got around to buy both Original Sin games. Time to go find the oldies then!
I guess that you can never assume how stable the situation of a studio or a company is when you're a consumer, that's one of the points I got from this doc. It's strange when I think about it, I never thought that Larian was swimming in money by the time they released the Kickstarter for D:OS but even then I couldn't had imagine that it was so dire for them at that time. Here's to them and for all hard working companies trying to survive each year by doing what they are most passionate about.
It’s a testament to the love, care and quality of DOS and DOS2 that I have Spider-Man and AC Odyssey just sitting there and all I want to do is do another play through of DOS 2. I can’t stop thinking about the game. Great stuff Larian. And thank you filmers for this documentary. Subbed.
A game Dev company that loves what they do and will do anything to produce it. The baby reference so many times.... wow so humble too, Sven is def rare in this day and age
I have massive respect for anyone who follow's their dream and tries their best. Hats off to the people at Larian for doing just that, I cant wait to see where they take Divinity next.
Bloody good game. Only just started playing it and coming from a faster pace diablo background. I actually enjoy divinity original sin a lot. A difficult game. But a fun game. I really enjoy it. Props.
as a fellow software engineer i have and still i am in such struggles sometimes. i bought all their games even though i have almost zero time to play them... just so that i can support them. ❤️
Wow, that was a trip down memory lane. I remember being really hyped for LMK, and the disapointment when it didn't released. I also noticed when playing Divine Divinity, that the elves spoke Isdira, the elven Language of Das Schwarze Auge, and thought that this was really odd. I guess now I know why XD
Huge thank you for getting all these resources and making the Divinity documentary! :D After stepping into DOS2, Larian Studios is now my favourite studio, and I can't wait for the next game they are making
I feel like I didn't give enough in the last kickstarter if compared to how much fun I had in Divinity Original Sin 2. If ever they do one again, I''ll make sure to put 10 times what I gave because this studio deserves it million times over.
Fantastic documentary! As an old time rpg gamer, I have to say that the joy of playing Divinity Original Sin reminds me of the wonder of my youth playing the first D&D Gold Box Game "Pool of Radiance" - which at the time was a marvel to behold. This company is doing fantastic work and producing games of such high quality. You can really see that Original Sin was a labor of love.
I pirated DOS and while playing it i guilt grew inside of me, this game is that good, went and bought it the next week.. deserves all the money, congratz to all devs, great documentary btw 10/10 !
What wonderful documentation. Fantastic insights and honest reasons why decisions were made the way they were made. My full respect to all "Larians" who have remained loyal to the company even in difficult times. My shelf is full of your games and now, i know the reason why. Looking forword for your upcoming games.
They grabbed my attention around 2015 since Divinity original sin 1 ,they just won the best game of the year , smashing big names in the competition. Well Done !
And then you 'rickrolled' all the award shows with BG3 .... Being from BE, I'm so proud of these guys. Honestly, the game is simply amazing. Having been a BG1/2-player, loving a good story (never enjoyed an FPS - but each to their own - respect), this was a wet dream come true. They usually don't 😛 Putting it out right now, as a 63-year old coot who lived his life as a BA/FA in boring ICT Finance, Government, whatever. I'm officially putting my 'job application' here for within a few years when my pension is there. Don't pay me Larian, just let me be part of it 😀
What a ride it has been playing Larian games since the very first Divine demo oh so many years ago...thku. I am looking forward to one day playing Divine Sandbox, with all the locations from all these games(and more) in an open world format...where i can camp on a frontier forever or gather a band of raiders, steal a ship and become the most famous pirate ever raiding ports and taking down trade ships. Or hire myself out to a warring faction and rise to king in a location...till then on to the next one!
I should have been sleeping already now for an hour or so, but no matter how hard that tomorrow meeting will get - damn it was worth every minute (and I will re-watch this for sure) - great job.
Very cool documentary guys ! I played that Divinity game where you could turn into a dragon, actually liked it. This was the only game where you would lose at the end, only to be able to succeed in the following DLC. Divinity OS 1 & 2 are in my opinion, the best tabletop style games since Baldur's Gate. The multiplayer aspect of them is just done perfectly.
Great job on the documentary! And great job to Larian for persevering and finally being able to deliver such great games! Can't wait to see what they have next in store!
It is weird i see these european games companies that years ago I did not really give the time of day Like Divine divinity i had actually bought the physical release and i thought it was a good game, And then with Cd projekt and the Witcher 1 which was another good game.....but had no idea that eventually both those developers when given chance to shine really create some of the best games ever. Now Piranha Bytes its your turn to shine
Piranha Bytes did shine but not lately. Gothic 2001: GOTHIC 2002: GOTHIC II 2003: GOTHIC - The Night of the Raven (AddOn for Gothic II) 2006: GOTHIC 3 Risen: 2009: Risen 2012: Risen 2 2014: Risen 3: Titan Lords ELEX (released October 17th 2017).
Elex is albeit a bit buggy a great game! It's been a long time since I was so interested in the lore of a game. And I don't like post-apocalyotic normally. And jumping off massive cliff with your jetpack, filled world. Annoying zerks though xD
I think it's because these EU companies weren't swept up in the whole consolization trend that affected US based companies (Bethesda, Bioware, etc). I mean obviously Witcher and Divinity were released on consoles too, but the design sensibilities never were compromised in the "make it dumber and streamlined" way that US RPGs were. These sensibilities were conserved game to game for both Larian and CDPR, and in this generation that paid off because the trend swung back to more complex, less hand-holdy, unapologetic-ally difficult games

Larian is an amazing studio, it's really awesome to see how much they do care about the RPGs they make and how much passion they have for their job. Thanks for the doc, guys!
Thank you Larian for turn-based fighting. I really hated real-time fights from older crpgs.
Amazing documentary, and it makes me an even bigger fan of Larian studios.
Such a high quality game by very talented people. They deserve the praise it gets.
To make a very big RPG to dwarf them all, I think he is getting his wish with Baldurs Gate 3. Good luck, as a BG fan, I can’t wait to see his dream come to life.
You made it! Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming out!
i am crying as a baby watching this after bg3 success
I love the struggles of this studio as I'm inspired by them
Respect and R.I.P Kirill, best game composer.
He was not only composer, but part of famous russian(USSR) rock groups. write some lyrics, being singer and keyboard performer.
I actually like the new music more tho, the one from Divinity 2 is amazing. But RIP Kirill. I hope you found peace.
@@user-me7mm7gr1p when u have time u should take a listen to the divine divinity ost, best soundtrack ever imho :)
@@DukePegasus I thought the soundtrack to Dos1 which Kirill made was great as well, but I do think that the dos2 music is better.
@@user-me7mm7gr1p sure im not arguing your opinion haha, if u like borislavs music more its just a matter of opinion haha. I just thought that if u like listening to ost's in general i think youll have a blast listening to the divine divinity ost :). Im really looking forward to the music in the new baldurs gate as well
I have stopped playing vid games for a while until I bought Divinity original sin 2, thank you. Wow you have really worked hard for this, you have my support
Holy shazbutt! I had no idea how much they hung by a thread for so long. Excellent Doc and congrats to the Divinity team for never giving up.
thanks for not giving up yall made an amazing game
I bought Divine Divinity way back in the day and loved it. Afterwards, I bought every divinity game by Larian. In the very first game, there was a dialogue sequence in one of the graveyards about the nature of truth. I initially discounted it as a bunch of meta physical nonsense, but it stuck in my head and I kept on thinking about it. I didn't know it at the time, but that would be the seed which caused me to pursue a minor in philosophy.
Divine Divinity....a masterpiece classic that started this love story
"How can we make something better that DOS:II" -> proceeds to make Baldur's Gate 3. Also i've quite enjoyed this documentary, i've known Larian games for a long time, but i only got around to buy both Original Sin games. Time to go find the oldies then!
I know this is an old comment but all their older games are on GOG! They're usually cheap and they go on sale for SUPER cheap on a regular basis
This video aged well.
Exceptionally well. Like the finest of wines.
The baby reference so many times.... wow so humble too, Sven is def rare in this day and age
how does this channel only have 10k subs!? keep up the good work guys at Gameumentary, your production value is sweet!
We wish we knew! We're working on lining up bigger projects with more mainstream appeal :)
I have massive respect for anyone who follow's their dream and tries their best. Hats off to the people at Larian for doing just that, I cant wait to see where they take Divinity next.
Great episode! Definitely the best one yet!
Awesome Documentary! Thank you Gameumentary and Larian! :)
That was amazing. Larian reminds me a lot of DE’s Warframe.
That moment you're a small dev company and make THE best RPG ever made, imo.
All hails to Larian and Swen in particulary for never giving up on his lifework.
We need a bg3 documentary.
Seriously congrats guys!
I love Larian even before their breakout success with Original Sin. This doc is a treat for me.
Thank you!
Nice too see you guys and NoClip making these cool gaming documentaries
Ive bought D:OS2 8 times, once for myself and then 7 for my friends just so they could experience how fuckin great the game is
I pirated DOS and while playing it i guilt grew inside of me, this game is that good, went and bought it the next week.. deserves all the money, congratz to all devs, great documentary btw 10/10 !
Well Done !
The walk speed decision was a really good choice.
Extremely well made documentary! Congratulations to everyone involved. Wish to see more studio documentaries, carry on!
The music blow me away in this game and much other things too. Count on me to support you!
They usually don't 😛
Putting it out right now, as a 63-year old coot who lived his life as a BA/FA in boring ICT Finance, Government, whatever.
Fantastic Gameumentary!!! 😀👍
So inspiring. Made me shed a tear...
Really great documentary. Loved learning more about the Larian Studios history and approach.
Great job on the documentary!
And great job to Larian for persevering and finally being able to deliver such great games!
Can't wait to see what they have next in store!
I loved this documentary, thank you for sharing it with the community!

ELEX (released October 17th 2017).
This was a true inspiration to watch.
Watching this keeping BG3 in mind now, I think Sven is following thrugh.
