In preparing to paint this 1961 Saturday Evening Post cover, Norman Rockwell noted that many countries, cultures, and religions incorporate some version of the Golden Rule into their belief systems. “Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You” is a simple but universal phrase that reflected Rockwell’s personal philosophy. A gathering of people from different cultures, religions, and ethnicities, this image was a precursor of the socially conscious subjects that Rockwell would illustrate in the 1960s and 1970s. Rockwell was a compassionate man, and this simple phrase reflected his philosophy.
"I’d been reading up on comparative religion. The thing is that all major religions have the Golden Rule in Common. ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ Not always the same words but the same meaning."
    - Norman Rockwell

Awesome. I have had this painting in my home for over 25 years, and even more inspired as I reflect on today'. We need it more than ever

NR is the best of all time! aka The GOAT. He was the inspiration that led to my 45 year career in art. From the Famous Artist’s School and beyond, to illustrations in national magazines, advertisements and packaging- NR was my inspiration.

When I was a little boy living in Arizona my grandparents will come visit us a couple times a year from California whenever they visit us they take us out to eat at a restaurant. That restaurant had a lot of Norman Rockwell paintings and the two that always stuck out to me even as a child. The first one being the soldiers escorting a black girl to school even as a kid I could see the insanity of the situation that Norman Rockwell was trying to portray, And the second one is the Golden Rule in my opinion it’s the best piece of art ever created.

One species many races. We have always been united from the begining of time. Continue supporting, Celebrating and respecting each other's culture and we'll be fine.

The best way to harmony among different races, creeds or colors is not acceptance but indifference. When we no longer notice other colors. When we no longer group ourselves into separate types of people. Though we’ve got a ways too go, we aren’t doing so bad considering our melting pot has only existed for about fifty years.

Why on earth did they add music to this?!! It does nothing to make the narration more interesting or exciting; it goes boem boewm boem in a very irritating fashion..
