  • Flying from Manston to Biggin Hill in the south east of England, using VOR radio beacons both to navigate, and to plot our position on a chart along the way - using LittleNavMap purely as a chart - not as an automatic tracking tool.
    11:09 Starting to chart position on the map.
    12:20 Tuning NAV2 to get a bearing to the beacon, and drawing that on the chart
    17:22 Measuring our position again with NAV2
    22:10 Working out when we reach a particular place on the chart
    31:13 Planning our approach into Biggin Hill
    35:20 Making another reading from NAV2, after tuning to a another beacon
    51:00 After lining up the ILS, first look out towards the destination
    55:09 First site of the destination runway in the distance
    59:07 Final approach

    Awesome! Just one little note that might be useful to your viewers: you can also tune the CDI to show the from flag and then have your measure from the VOR. That way you don’t have to try and guess where along the line you are.

    VOR nav is how i started out in flight sim. FS2000. Yup. It was so satisfying finishing that tutorial course and getting that virtual certificate.

    A little heads up, you mentioned you were on the 270 radial, actually you were on the 90 degree radial. Radial radiate out from the VOR. You needed to tune in the 270 degree radial in order to have the CDI needle provide positive steering information. For example, if the CDI needle was to the right of center you would know the course you want to fly is to the right of your current position. It's one of those things beginning pilots find confusing when using the VOR. Other than that, you did a good job in showing how to use a VOR in plotting your position on a chart.

    Hi Jonathan, thanks for this informative video. However, I have Little Nav Maps recently installed but with no PDF containing instructions on its use. So can you tell me how I can carry out exactly what you have done here: drawing a yellow line between 2 VORs, drawing lines between marked positions (along yellow line) and the VOR, saving user points and removing the aircraft icon?

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right click on an airfield, and set it as your departure point. Right click another airfield, and set it as your destination. That will create a line on the map. Then right click on any waypoint, and add it to your flightplan - and the yellow line will go via it.

      Manston isn't available as a departure airport in MSFS 2020. You can still see the airfield when you zoom in close enough, but just cannot select it. I presume this is due to it being decommissioned in the real world?

      The Cessna 152 has no NAV mode - it doesn't have a GPS. If you're on about the add-on, then that's a bug in the add-on.

    The VOR stations show up as small points on my littlenavmap chart unless I zoom in enormously, to the point where I can’t see much of the chart. Same thing with the ILS feathers. Is there a fix for this?
