Ive cycled in Dubai for 3 years now and can tell you the cycle paths get VERY repetitive. Ive done al qudra about 100 times and I can tell you it does get awfully repetitive, and cycling on the roads is almost suicide because they’re all 6 lane highways…
@@CT-vm4gf If the roads were unrideable definitely. But considering pretty much all of Europe is half decent quiet road I'll take that every day. Especially considering how frequently you can find little shops its far more convenient. Dubai would only really be good if you're a pro looking to just train on uninterrupted roads. And even then there aren't really any climbs so it's not amazing for that either. I've completed 1700km of unique road just in my local area and even with that I sometimes get bored of certain areas
As cool as that infrastructure is, I can't help but think it would get pretty boring compared to the roads we can explore back in the UK or Europe. That sun though, beginning to forget what it looks like 😂
Starting off by saying you're in Dubai with three lambos and a McLaren parked behind you must be one of the most Dubai-esque intros I've seen 3:11 is an Arabian Oryx
1- It gets boring after even 10 times riding on Al Qudra. 2- Weather is usually awful! You have only 3 months to ride your bike outside peacefully. Otherwise, it just is so hot and humid, even in the very late night or early morning. 3- If you are living just a bit far to the nearest cycling path, you need to take your bike into your car and drive to the start of the path! 4- Don't even consider riding your bike on a normal car road. Very dangerous. 5- I have been to many places in UAE, and I can say that road bike paths, mountain bike paths are quite well-built, BUT, it just gets boring after a short amount of time. 6- Everything is much more expensive compared to Europe. So buy your spare items when in the EU, or order them from there.
As a cyclist i go cycling to be at peace with nature, sounds animals and birds, visiting different places by different routes, sometimes interacting with fellow cyclists on road and off, dirt track or a road. For me Dubai looks car orientated ok for the Top Gear lot, but so boring hen youve done all the loops around the area, also see you got driven to the cycle lanes so as other have said to many cars to cycle there safely. PS if you want sand go to Southport.
Abu Dhabi is another option for cycling. Can't beat it. Can do hundreds of Kilometers on open safe roads where the speed limit is 80kmhr. Much more exciting than the laps of qudra and also so much safer than the highways.
My view, as someone that lived an cycled there for a couple of years, is it's an unusual experience for a one off, however, now do the same loop in desert every week for the rest of your life. Add in, getting up to start at 4:30am in summer. In terms of cyclists and drivers, it's irrelevant since cycling on roads with a speed limit 60 kmh or greater, or pretty much any road, is illegal. That being said, when I lived there, I did cycle on the roads. It's an awful experience. So, if you want to cycle in Dubai, you will also need a car, so you can drive to a track in the desert. If you do go back, it's more interesting to go to Ras al Khaimah and cycle up Jebel Jais.
Cam, next time you're over, head down to Abu Dhabi; we do cycle on the roads. Early in the morning, it's safe enough, and we have. a few more cycle tracks to go on. It will give you a different view of cycling in the Middle East. And if you get a chance, head down to Liwa to really cycle in the middle of the desert.
I was lucky enough to cycle in Israel when a friend and I went to watch the start of the 2018 Giro. We were advised that it could have some possible risks to cycle from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. given that it does not have a big cycling community it was the best and most memorable ride I have ever experienced. The people were lovely, drivers were extremely generous with road space and tarmac smooth as silk and I would take it any day of the week over a UK road where road cycling has literally become a threat to life. Sometimes you just have to try and see what happens.
I live in Israel….on the whole drivers are ok but there are some assholes. There are not enough cycle lanes yet but they are slowly adding more to the network. As for riding from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, that’s brave. What route did you take?
Also been to Israel and the thing was all the traffic was slower on wide roads and in Tel Aviv, than in the UK, would have loved to hire a bike there as it was a fantastic place to visit, so freindy but oh so hot. Intercity coaches also took bikes for free, under floor storage. Look forward to Can doing Israel next year.
seems like a perfect place for pro's to train, but for someone who prefers nice sights to stop and take some pictures. i dont think dubai is the place to go to
If you have a mechanical on those cycle tracks how do you get a lift home? Are there roads nearby all the time? Or is it just a cycle lane through the desert?
As for the safety. It’s safe to ride the tracks but the roads are another issue. The driving standards are generally poor so cycling on the roads can be interesting… Whilst qudra is great, it gets boring very quickly
I was supposed to ride it a few years ago when I was there, got the bike from Wolfi’s and everything but a combo of a dodgy stomach, not used to the heat and a 4am start I didn’t do it 😢
Ridden the tracks since 2013 when they started getting built. You should have had a trip up the road to Abu Dhabi and ride the Al Ras chain gang on the F1 course....300 plus riders on occasions!!
Wish they built more cycle tracks in our many fields in the UK, especially to cut out places on common routes where have to take main roads at times. Could compensate the farmers simply by letting them build a house or two on their land. That alone would be worth a lot to a farmer.
If we didn’t have our Great Dane, I would be moving there in an instant. Similar time zone, I can work anywhere with wifi, bike riding great, awesome golf courses and tax free living 👌🏻💷

Also doesn't look like many climbs, I'd go insane just because of that.
@@ezeekwheelI’d be happy just to HAVE bike paths where I live.

My first thought lol
Ungrateful, not many countries have "cycle paths", SMH.
As cool as that infrastructure is, I can't help but think it would get pretty boring compared to the roads we can explore back in the UK or Europe. That sun though, beginning to forget what it looks like 😂
I mean this is not infrastructure, this is essentially a big circle in a park...

the sounded like a shout out to the tourist board of Dubai that did....?

Good work Cam - not seen anything before about cycling in Dubai - great stuff
What about summer with 40+ degrees?
This video was very informative Cameron thank you very much
What a horrible car centric dump, imagine not being able to walk anywhere because it is just 6 lane highways, yikes!
seems like a perfect place for pro's to train, but for someone who prefers nice sights to stop and take some pictures. i dont think dubai is the place to go to
If you have a mechanical on those cycle tracks how do you get a lift home? Are there roads nearby all the time? Or is it just a cycle lane through the desert?
every cycle track will have an emergency number which you can call if you had mechanical or health issue and they will come to support
Ahaha no way wasn’t expecting to see Sean on this video. Go on lad 🇮🇪
The grass isn’t always greener Cam. Yorkshire takes some beating, even this week when it’ll be sub zero.
Good weather and low traffic makes a nice change from UK riding. A visit there would be interesting.
Can you cycle on highways in dubai to reach the cycling track if i dont have a car service?
Dubai cyclist here - this is the main issue. The cycling infrastructure is great but I have to do a 30-40min round trip drive to get there!
is there a good climbs for training in eau?
they have an appalling humans rights record maybe look into that as well mate
Any links to join the local cycling groups in dubai ?
Wow nice! I see you were in ancient Greece. Fantastic!!!
The “wildlife” you passed was an Oryx. You’ll see loads out in quadra as there’s a huge oryx farm out there.
As for the safety. It’s safe to ride the tracks but the roads are another issue. The driving standards are generally poor so cycling on the roads can be interesting… Whilst qudra is great, it gets boring very quickly

We cycled on al quadra in March was good surface if not a little boaring
That’s a great place to cycle. Only drawback would be summer time. Too hot to cycle outside, so guess turbo trainers in air con would be the norm
Oman is better imo.
You need to be done before 9 AM during summer. Then it's "okayish"
I never see videos of people walking in Dubai
Great vid cam!

Nah, mate. That land's gotta go to the ultra important HERITAGE SITES. The 50 year old drug house is more important than transport.
Awesome. You should see the bins they have in NL - huge nets don't even require you to stop - I remember it being fun just trying to aim for the bull!
Gob smacked. What we would give for a 200K Plus traffic free cycle path in the UK.
This is the content we subscribe for 😮
I rode Al qudra couple of years ago fantastic circuit I think they also open a track at motor city so families can ride round
"weather is perfect"
Bruh... Have you seen the summers?
I've ridden the cycle track in Dubai. Very boring.
The longest...? Really? What about the 500km bikelane from Seoul to Busan?
The Arabian Oryx, an endangered animal, your actually in a nature reserve
This watches like a propaganda video
Ok cam, where is Callie
Your best vid for an age!
Is it safe to bike with triathletes?
That’s a track?? Looks like a damn road. It’s amazing, only down side is the heat and sand
And no change in Landscape.
Nice place lovely
so its a desert.
If we didn’t have our Great Dane, I would be moving there in an instant. Similar time zone, I can work anywhere with wifi, bike riding great, awesome golf courses and tax free living 👌🏻💷
Yes that's all great ohoh, but what about urban cycling? That would also be interesting
You went with Mr Beasts thumbnail artist then? 😂
Well done, excellent job, try cycling in Malta 😂 it’s worse than England lol
Wheres your rainbow armband?🌈
Looks like an Arabian Oryx to me.
hopefully safer than pinellas
That is a Arabian oryx
XUV 700 In the back
looking very dull and boring that type of biking.
just like you and your comment
Nahhh,🔥🔥
