I honestly think this paints her as a good child at heart. She loves her Dad and knows how much he puts in to give her and her Mom the best life possible and so she feels guilty when she feels like she won’t be able to share in her father’s enjoyment of the opera or worse ruin it for him. This is so very human of her. I think for most people who look up to their Dad this episode can be very relatable.
“No theatre would have live fire on stage” I thought that too until I went to see Les Miserable last week and in multiple scenes that had lit torches… it was terrifying lol
Yep. It was crazier back in the 80s and 90s when you couldn't just use a digital screen to simulate things. Fire was FLYING EVERYWHERE at Phantom of the Opera. His wife was rich before they met. She had the same nanny Muffy has now. So she comes from money. Ed probably did not but has a solid business. He probably invests in properties and things like that on top of his car business
Keep in mind that Ed is the inheritor of a multi generational family business that is apparently the cornerstone to Elwood city’s economy. He probably owns multiple used car dealerships and maybe a few credit unions for good measure. It also helps he married into old money as well. T L; DR: he could only afford this through inheritance from both his fore fathers and his in-laws.

A lot of theatres have live fire onstage. The original Broadway production of Phantom of the Opera NOT burning down the entire theatre district in Manhattan might actually prove that God exists, because that show was pyro heaven. I actually missed Carmen when it was livestreamed in theaters even though I really wanted to see it, so fingers crossed they do it again.
I remember that line about there being an opera that had a runtime of 16 hours. That's the maximum amount of time someone should be awake for in a row. I agree winking at Muffy was too far.
Binky seems like a good friend. BINKY used SLEEP POWDER There was a Hey Arnold! episode about the opera too. And one Arthur reviewer suggested Muffy's family is so rich because of mafia connections
To be fair, you are pretty lucky if your parents want to take you to such a nice performance. One of my fondest memories with my parents was them inviting me to the symphony.
I think there is a episode that Mr.Crosswire owns several dealerships under Crosswire Motors. All shown to be pretty successful. So its likely he gets a lot of income from the smaller dealerships he owns. Mr.Crosswire also comes from Old Money, as his company was started by his grandfather 75 years ago. which makes no sense because Muffy said the company started in 1965. MEANING Authur would take place in 2040.... I just looked through several bits of Arthur lore to make this comment....
I get what they were trying to do with this episode and all, but I never liked the whole "you're only a sophisticated, mature adult if you like this artform we decided to put on a pedestal" crap. We all know there's this imaginary art hierarchy a bunch of superficial dorks went and created where some art is more important than other art, but it's OKAY to not like some form of art. Opera is to sophistication and maturity as reciting Pi is to intelligence, insomuch as they're both lazy writing ploys to show both as character traits. Now Rock Opera. THAT'S the sign of sophistication.
My crazy Arthur Theory - Muffy's mom (Millicent) is the parent that comes from money. As everyone's pointed out, it makes no sense that they could be "old money" rich from a third generation car dealership. No, the way Ed Crosswire throws money around really gives "noveau riche," like a used car salesman who married into wealth. And we're taking the Crosswires at their word that car sales made them rich; maybe that's just what Ed TELLS his daughter - he wouldn't be the first car salesman with a sense of unearnt accomplishment. Also, in "The Lousy Week" we learn that that she had the same nanny as Muffy and it's heavily implied tat she grew up in the same environment. The arthur Wiki says of Millicent that she "Enjoys being the hostess of fancy parties at the Crosswire Estate." That just means "Socialite." Se we've got a used car salesman named Ed, and a socialite named Millicent. Which one do you think comes from a wealthy family?

I'm going to see The Marriage of Figaro through Fathom Events in the movie theater this April, and even though this is a different opera this has still got me way too excited for how far away April is from this comment.
3:04 16 hours? That’s insane
That would make the combined run time of Lord of the Rings look a walk in the park.
I don’t get why her father took her to see Carmen considering how that show ends why can’t she take her to see Pirates of panzance or something?
At least Gilbert and Sullivan’s shows are a little more accessible.
If you DOOOOOOOOON'T...!
banger
Binky seems like a good friend. BINKY used SLEEP POWDER
There was a Hey Arnold! episode about the opera too. And one Arthur reviewer suggested Muffy's family is so rich because of mafia connections
To be fair, you are pretty lucky if your parents want to take you to such a nice performance. One of my fondest memories with my parents was them inviting me to the symphony.
if muffy would start playing in an opera, the building would practically collapse
And that would make the chandelier disaster in Phantom of the Opera look like a small ordeal.
Are you working on the Switch Glitch yet?
You should cover Abdullah from Tintin. The brat literally saw his kidnapping a game whilst whining his ass off about trains and refusing to be saved.
Basically he's Dan Aykroyd in Tommy Boy.
6:18. Matt's got a very solid point with this.
Omg yes the reality show parody episode is next 😂
Muffy needs a little more culture in her life
Baily.can really carry a tune
My cat literally left the room the minute muffy opend her mouth 😭
I am partially named after Tosca; her first name was Floria, which is my middle name.
0:35 As you once said to Binky: "HEY. NO. BAD."
oh no, not _that_ Zootopia comic, lmfao
What did she thought an opera was, a polar bear riding a hot wheel?
You missed my favorite line about Muffy bashing Carmen! "I think it's about auto mechanics. 🥴"
If it were the Matthew Bourne ballet, she'd be right!
Arthur’s missing pal review will be THE premier of the year if you aren’t there you might as well move to Anaheim
6:18 Obviously you haven't seen the stuff done in Starlight Express or Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
