the Cupra Leon has the newer EA888 REV4 engine with the new Continental Turbo which is not the same as in the Audi.
also the Cupra has an electronic LSD.
the less weight and the 300hp to the front wheels + LSD make the Cupra a lot faster than the S3 at tracks and even at high speed.
the S3 still has the old quattro system which is not similar to the new Golf R AWD system( which can put up to 80% to the rear wheels ).
the interior is a lot better in the Audi but the Cupra exterior design is just gorgeous.
For me the Cupra Leon is the winner in terms of price and performance.

LSD is standard but there are different power levels in the petrol 245bhp and 300bhp. The higher spec models also come with DCC.

Great review guys. Although you didn't mention the Audi has the previous generation of the EA888 engine, while the Leon uses the same Evo 4 EA888 found in the GTI Clubsport and Golf R (albeit in a different state of tune in the R). So it's not the same engine, and the newer Evo 4 version seems to be quicker across the rev range.

I look forward to seeing the Cupra Leon 300 land here in Australia next year.
Price point will be the determining factor in sales of this particular car.
Cupra really do need to have a close look at the pricing model for the FL I30N DCT prior to releasing their pricing for the car.
I hope it’s priced similarly to the I30N as it will give the Australian consumer choices.

To be honest, was very disappointed with the fit and finish quality concerns. Unless they are addressed this will appeal to less people than an Alfa. The market won’t accept it long term. Needs to be under 50k but I suspect there won’t be much margin in it for everyone at that price. Will be a hard slog selling them in Oz best of luck to their local management team.

Any reviewer that thinks we’re here to immediately wonder if it has ‘cheap plastics’ is out of touch with the public. And in many instances, hard plastics in high volume touch areas are warranted, especially for appearances over time with wear and ease of cleaning. This channel is proof that Wheels has lost their mojo and why other journaling brands like CarExpert have taken over the podium. Didn’t even get your engine data right.

I don’t get why Cupra are ruining their brand. SEAT let them go on their own but whoever is making their business decisions haven’t a clue about their core demographic buyer. My 2019 Seat Leon Cupra came standard with Limited Slip Diff & metallic paint as no cost option, completely free. I added a pan roof 3 years ago & the ticket price all in for under £32k. Cupra 2022 No slip diff, with metallic paint £575 & sunroof brings the equivalent model today in at £38,730. That’s over £7,000 more than I paid 3 years ago for more car. Even today SEAT shame their sister brand by offering metallic paint on the SEAT Leon as no cost option. Even Grapene Grey which Cupra are charging £860 for is a no cost option with SEAT. I wouldn’t mind Cupra is being sold next to Seat’s in Seat showrooms. They couldn’t even be bothered to put side sills on the Cupra Leon.
I think for any private buyer the S3 is a no brainier. Better standard spec & residuals Cupra could only imagine. I can’t see the brand lasting long before it’s back under SEAT dropping everything bar the Leon & Alteca.
