I have the Leon VzX. Love driving it. I also have had total strangers come and ask me questions about it. You definitely won’t get as much interest from people if you had a Golf. The pops and bangs are great to have. Can listen to it all day 😁
@cris-rj5zf the pops and bangs only happen around 3000 rpm in Sport and Cupra modes as far as I know. I haven’t heard it in Comfort mode. Not that I ever drive in Comfort mode 😂
@@russodean2 The road noise (apart from the squeaks mentioned here, which I don't have at all) is coming from the 19inch tires. Didn't see what they are running here, but mine came with Eagle F1 asymmetric 5 two years back. I'll replace with Eagle F1 asymmetric 6 next year and then the noise level drops 2dB. A Pirelli PZ4 is a good alternative. As a daily driver, every ride is a blast!
Hey Paul! A fan from RSA. Love your videos and how comprehensive you are. Would be brilliant if you added vehicle exteriors dimensions for the vehicles. I've noticed you do it for some.
Thanks a lot for this all encompassing overview of the whole range. Want to eventually upgrade from a 2015 Ford Focus estate and the estate Cupra is definitely one of my main choices. Thanks a lot for your entire team's work!
Hey Paul. Great information and presented really well in the “range review” format. I have a Formentor VZx and absolutely love it…a real head turner and quite the beast when you unleash it. I’m really just holding for the Tavascan release and then we will have two Cupra cars in our garage.
I have the VZ1 in the UK, which is the same as the VZ. I opted for it as a fast practical car, i thought it was smoother and a more comfortable ride than the 300hp version, but it's still fast when I feel like having a blast. Love it so far
Thanks for the awesome range review Paul! Loving my entry level V 👌 I call it a golf in sexier clothes 😂 Didn't realise I had launch control though!!! I'm off to try it now 🏎️
Driving the VZx for a few months in NZ. Love the performance, however the interior squeaks are a thing + it's quite thirsty even when driven in Comfort mode without being enthusiastic with the throttle. I would say 9.5 l/100 km with mixture of city and highway driving.
I thought I'd take a look at their highest spec the formentor, tell you what though that blue interior omg it reminds me of a vp commodore of the 90s, however the matrix edition which they no longer offer came in black, and actually looks quite good.
As always great video Paul. Seriously looking at one of these and want to know if there are any reliability issues that you know of on the Cupra Leons? I have read about a potential issues with the infotainment that is fixed with a software updated but not much else. Although I have heard people say stay clear of any Volkswagen group cars because of ongoing issues, but I don't know whether that is more myth than reality. Thoughts?
Is there any side by side comparison of the plastic hardness and road noise between the GTI and VZx, Im really tossing up between the two. The dealbreaker is the interior quality feel and road noise. I was really amazed at how much space there was in the back of the Cupra.
I'm totally on the fence with Hybrid as well. Most of the time you are either running in electric mode lugging around a petrol engine. Or your in petrol mode lugging around a battery & electric motor. So really it's either get a fully petrol or fully electric.
Cupra & Skoda were supposed to be cut price versions of Golf GTI & Golf R but hasnt really panned out that way . Just get a 3yr old Golf R with good History ! Have Driven them Both , very Good Everyday Supercars ! Y
Hi again Paul, just want to add a left field idea. No one makes comment on sustainability in new cars. Is there a way you could add to your reviews what car makers are doing well environmentally in car building? For example, vegan based interior materials, recycled plastics, recycled rubber etc. Imagine if car paint could be infused with bacteria to produce oxygen and the same bacteria added to fuel to reduce CO2?? It’s time for our cars to be a servant of the environment not just a basic means of transport. Just a thought. 🤓
How have people who have bought a Cupra thought about the dealer network at present, is it convenient to get it serviced? In Queensland I believe there is only one dealer. Asking because the entire Cupra range is enticing however due to the sparse network it might be better going for an equivalent Golf or Skoda Octavia.
Cupras just seem pretty cool, although I'm on the fence about the matte black thing. Sometimes I think it looks good but sometimes it just seems very try hard. So hmmmmm... I'd probably opt out but here it seems ok. Btw mate, give no carb a go for a bit. You joke about your weight but imo most of that is inflammation and water weight. And meat is yum.
I disagree with your take on the plugin hybrid. I could really do with one. I travel 15kms each day during the week and 500kms of towing on the weekends. I could spend the week on battery and use combustion on the weekend.
Had the VZ3 (UK equivalent of the VZX 300hp variant). An awesome car, but after 18 months ownership I got fed up with the poor build quality (awful rattles and buzzing speakers) and the terrible traction in colder months - which equates to about 9 months of the year in the UK. Should be less of an issue in Aussie though
I checked these models out looking to buy and was actually disappointed how bland they were. Both exterior and interior. They almost look a few generations old.
That is not the base model not entry levels it’s like saying a golf gti is the base level, they are Seat Leon’s, if you want the entry level you need a Seat 😂🎉😂
It's actually bigger than the Golf seen it has the extended wheel base (of the Octavia) and has much more leg room in the back, converting it to a very usable car to transport teenagers. Parts are from the current gen Golf or Audi A3, so don't see why you state it's 2nd hand. To me, it's equivalent to a Golf, a bit bigger and with some more character and a bit less expensive.

No one asks me about my ' 380 ' lucky man😅.
How's the road noise? Want to get one in the next couple years.
@@russodean2 It’s pretty good to be honest. I have a sunroof, but I don’t have any of the squeaking noises that Paul was talking about in the video.

The was a fantastic format for anyone considering this range of vehicles. Much better than the usual top of the line only being reviewed.
I’ve had the Leon vzx for 18 months now and still loving it. Still surprises me how quick it actually is when I get out of the city to country roads
I really appreciate your balanced take on the plug-in hybrid!
I own a Formentor VZx and had a base Leon V for a loan car. Thoroughly impressed with the kit and drive compared to similar vehicles for the price!
14:06 I’m impressed with the instrumentation, including all those fluid & outside temperature indicators at a glance.
Those plastic bits on the wheel arches aren't for aero, theyre to meet regulations that stipulate that tyres cant stick out from the wheel arches.
Great review, VZ & VZx look like a treat on the track
I bought the Leon V over the weekend - was very impressed at the display and test drive. Looking forward to the daily driver upgrade from the VW polo

Thanks for this video! I'm thinking of getting the Hybrid and this video was informative
Over here the Leon starts with a 1.5TSI. With 110 kW. We did use to have the VZ5 with the engine of the RS3.
Love my VZ. Had for 8 months now!

Awesome video, can you please Do the same with the formentor range?
Paul how do you think the VZx compares to a...Honda Civic FL5 Type R?
Seat is the "sporty" brand in the VAG portfolio and Cupra is Seat's spicy division. If I was going for a Cupra I'd have the Formentor.

Plz do the review of Mg Gloster Savvy 7 seater 4×4 in details (specifications, engine, off road capability, luxury, price).

I havent seen anyone review a BMW M135. Its like its a forgotten hot hatch. Reckon you can review one, maybe an Xdrive version.
Is the wagon version Cupra coming to Aus and when?
Potentially. I know they’re looking at it right now but it’s yet to be confirmed.

Try talking with Jo-Ann at the Cupra garage and she will see you sorted.
where was all the pricing

Paul are you going to address the smuggled tobacco allegations?
Why did you do the 0-100 in sports mode ( v and VZe) instead of Cupra mode? Your results are the lowest times I have seen reviewed
They don’t have a Cupra mode.

Just too expensive for a small car based on 2nd hand parts from VW 😂
