I really liked Cinder when she was first revealed and then I hit a rough patch of "wow she really isn't as cool as I thought" but now?? Now she's THAT bitch and you bring her to life so well. 10/10.

Every time I rewatch volume 8 I find myself coming back to this video and every single time it hits me just as hard. Cinder is just SO fucked up... it's a shame so many people can't see how interesting of a character she is

Holy shit. Wow. Like wowwww..this is perfect. It captures her character so well it's kinda scary! Kudos to you, this is amazing...
Really makes me want the redemption theory to be true. I honestly feel, more so than any other character, that Cinder has _never_ been in a good place, has _never_ been given a chance to be anything other than the broken young woman she is today. I don't like to think that someone is too far gone. If someone could manage to make her see that she never deserved to be treated so horrifically as a child and that she is somehow even worse off now under Salem, open her eyes to the fact that the world isn't as dark as her life experiences have twisted her to believe; if she could experience what it feels like to have someone genuinely care about her or treat her with kindness despite her actions...well, I think it would shatter her. But I think she would come out better for it in the end. Also, she is so ridiculously skilled in combat, she'd be a huge gain to the heroes side, so do it CRWBY.

She's definitely gonna get worse before she starts any positive upward trajectory but I think it's her inevitable character arc.

it's interesting b/c in volume 8 she's explicitly shown to be on the very cusp of realizing the situation she's in, but salem is such an expert manipulator that she's able to get cinder back on her side in a single conversation... very scary and bad for cinder u_u
as a character, thematically speaking, cinder has always been fundamentally...not exactly in line with what salem stands for, and salem has spent a LOT of on-screen time trying to beat those tendencies out of her. she's always occupied a sort of thematic middle ground between the extreme salem sits on and the extreme the heroes sit on. in the end, cinder being the maiden of the *Choice* relic will likely be very significant... 👀
@@HeiSebastian Yes. Yesss. All of the yes! When Salem was torturing her and it was flashing back, I thought for sure she was going to snap. She was so close to losing it. Some viewers viewed those breif flashes as too on the nose, assuming it was for the audience benefit. I'm with those who interpreted it as a PTSD flashback triggered by the immense pain and the anxiety that she was already feeling from the moment she realized she was back in Monstra. A flashback that immediately forced the repressed rage and trauma right to the surface; she made a clear connection from The Madame to Salem and she was about to lash out...violently.
The way Salem quelled that so expertly was...damn. she's good. She's had a lot of time to practice so she knew _the exact moment_ to sever that connection and switch tactics. Masterful manipulation of Cinder and blatant asf to everyone else. Even _Emerald_ was like "hold up...wh-...what the hell was _that_? Oh hell nah..."
For all her misdeeds, the fact that Cinder remains the key to the Relic of Choice is not coincidental. It's why I get so annoyed when people are like "who's gonna kill Cinder and take the Fall Maiden powers from her?" No one. Choice is something that Cinder has seldom been presented with in the past. Honestly, she's had very little agency over the course of her life. Thematically, her status as the Maiden of Choice feels intentional.
I'm also wondering who will be the one to break through to her. Her thematic foil is Ruby to a fault; Emerald genuinely cares for her even if she doesn't recognize what that even means and can't return that affection as of current; Oscar has expressed the desire to turn Salem's faction against her in the past. Love theorizing about this girl lol
God this is truly amazing and I feel really encapsulates Cinder character very well. She's a monster and possibly irredeemable at this point but damn if there isn't an air of tragedy layered underneath her character. As the saying goes "Monsters aren't born, they are made."

My Guess on how things will play out? The heroes are going to return from the other world JUST as Cinder's on the cusp of triumph (say killing Winter or the Summer Maiden). The heroes return.....and Cinder goes APESHIT at the prospect of seeing her hated nemesis (Ruby) alive and well.
And to add to this, Ruby and the others met various souls in the other world.....including Rhodes, who told them of Cinder's past. Ruby mentions this to Cinder, expresses honest sympathy despite what she's done, and points out how Cinder's still just a slave, only with Salem as the Master rather than the Madame. She offers Cinder a better way. Cinder angrily refuses and battle is joined.
Ultimately the battle ends with Cinder not only defeated, but possibly even stripped of all her Maiden Powers (possibly when Ruby destroys the Grimm Arm with another shot of Silver Eyes). Cinder's left broken and beaten, and desperately reaches out to Salem.....who coldly abandons her while saying "you are NOTHING." And just like that Cinder's back where she started. Broken and alone.
At this point she either dies, or is taken into custody and saved, which could start a redemption arc.
