Definitely, ive been after some birds for years now. Can see them plenty, but grabbing good photos is another story..just have to keep getting out there
Nice captures of the Terns. I have a 90D as well with both the Sigma 150-600 and a Canon 100-400. Thanks for the tip. I’m going to try that setting for birds in flight.
I got a question, do You have EF 100-400mm ? If yes, is it better to use 100-400mm and crop images, or sigma will be better for wildlife? how about AF and tracking on sigma ?
Beautiful area for both landscape and bird photography! That vertical shot of the bird at 4:20 is amazing! Everything about it is just perfect - from the way to his beak and legs are pointing straight down and his wings both straight up. Perfect! Also loved the in-flight one at 6:23 and the ones at the end with the bird and baby! Stunning work, probably your best bird photography so far in my opinion! Great stuff as always my friend!
Thank you Paul, Maine has really shined lately. From the state parks , the weather, the hiking, camping, wildlife ..its all coming together. Glad you liked the photos and can’t wait to get out for more
Absolutely its such a treat when things are unexpected, so many great shots from a short little outing. Always bring the camera. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
I just found your video and really enjoyed watching it. Its refreshing to see a fellow photographer that is using the same setup that I use(90d w/Sigma 150-600 c). Most have made the jump to mirrorless and i don't relate well to that with me being a diehard dslr user. I also have Sigmas 120-300 2.8 and the 500 f4. Both sport versions. Loved your tern photos. Where are you located? I'm in the Louisville area of Ky.
Awesome and glad to hear you enjoyed the shots! I really think the 90d catches a lot of negativity because of its pixel density. But anytime I think about making a switch I cant find a good enough reason to. The camera does so much effectively. How do you find using a prime lens? Im out in midcoast area of Maine currently, hope your safe out there with the flooding
@@timothylabrecque8589 My 90D does an excellent job with both the 150-600 and my 500. I just wish this heat would go away.. I can't handle heat and humidity due to a health problem I deal with. Louisville is in north central Ky well away from the flooding but I have spent a lot of time in the flood area in the past. Happy Shooting!
Love the photos. I also have a 90D and I absolutely love the camera. Can you possibly show your settings next the photos you take? It would definitely help us to know what to use. Thx!
Tim how well does the 90D stay locked on flying birds with OVF? I’ve seen some reports that it is not as good as the 80D. I have an 80D and it is rock solid tracking birds with the OVF.
I can’t really say, i know once i changed tracking to +1 it was much better , but most of the time I was shooting stationary birds and also I never used the 80d so I cant speak to that either
Some people try to trash the 90D that you need the right “resolving power” on the lenses but every lens I’ve ever used on it has been sharp even when cropped way in. Some people just don’t know how to use lenses and their focus properly. The 90D is a great camera for the price. Great shots and nice work by the way.
Just wanted to say thank you for that bit of info on settings. I have been frustrated on not being able to get sharp images on my 90d, after trying your suggestion, I was amazed how right you were... Thank you again, subscribed!! Great vid, awesome shots, well explained, hope to see more...
Beautiful shots, you got to love it when everything comes together,as you well know that it doesn’t always work out as planned.. the feeling of nailing that shot is so amazing. Bet you can’t wait to get back home with your memory card to upload your photos . Right place at the right moment.. amazing.
Nice video, touching! The 90D is a great camera, I bought it when it was released in 2019 and I'm very happy with it despite it's shortcomings and flaws. I didn't have that focus tracking problem with birds in flight (I use Canon 100-400 II) but I'll try to adjust that setting to see if I notice any difference. Thanks! And, BTW, nice Instagram account, you'v got a new follower :) Cheers!
Thank you Kevin, much appreciated. Too bad my exhibit is currently going on lol. Next time though, ill have to print one very large. Especially when theres that much detail in there. Looking forward to catching up with your channel, summers been busy, hope all is well out there
I just bout the 150-600 sigma lens and am glad to see your results. I’ll check my settings to see if it improves my pics. Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it.
The lens is a beast , performs best just shy of 600 but honestly if you nail everything, (light, exposure, shutterspeed) you shouldn’t have any trouble getting great results
Hi Tim i am kind a stuck in between inhave same sigma 600mm and looking for 90D or R7 Mostly i do birds can you please guide me which one should i buy .Thanks master
I havent used the r7 but it looks like a great wildlife setup. The advantage would be being able to see your exposure through the viewfinder where as the 90d you will have to get used to figuring out where you want to be with exposure compensation and such. The downside for the r7 would be now you have to get an adapter to use your sigma, and also the bird eye detect doesnt work as well with third party glass. I would get the r7 , and start saving for an rf wildlife lens
Wow, love these shots! That's strange regarding the tracking setting, I've had it fully locked on for ages but will have to give this a go. Always put the low keeper rate down to the 90D's OVF focusing system not being great when shooting with a high speed burst.
Definitely, for the price of the setup it certainly has its limitations. But the better you get at realizing them the more success you can have with it. I almost always have it on locked on as well, until I was after the birds in flight. In forest locked on for sure. Glad you enjoyed !
WOW! Just found this video of yours Tim while searching for videos on 90D wildlife settings. I have had my 90D since last March and have struggled with the focusing of the camera a ton. I have tried so many combinations of settings I can't even remember them all. I have the Canon 100-400L II and I feel I should be getting a lot more keepers? I have my tracking setting set to locked on and now I guess I will have to give your setting a try now. Can you maybe quickly go over all of your settings for me so I can compare? Again just spectacular shots of the terns feeding!
I always shoot manual with auto iso range between 100-6400 to start with. Ill adjust that range as I see how the light plays through the day. Usually -.3 stops of exposure compensation if its sunny. Another thing I found was when using autofocus (back button focus) i found taking my thumb off the AF when firing the shutter , essentially locking focus is a good technique. Almost like feathering the shutter but with the AF
@@timothylabrecque8589 So you don't need to keep your finger on the BBF when shooting BIF's? Or you're talking about static wildlife shooting? Do you always use the single point focus or have you had any luck with Zone AF like the 9 point zone af? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience much appreciated.
For flight shots id say its safe to hold it down, for static i like the feather technique. Absolutely I use the 9 point cluster if the background isn’t too much of a problem. Especially for flying birds
Awesome video. I have been going back and forth between adding a 90D or 7D Mark II as a backup cam to my R6 II for Rodeo and Sports as I have mostly EF glass. Looks like, especially considering the better video specs, the 90D is going to be my choice. Great video!
Thank you and glad you enjoyed, the 90d is an awesome camera, it can do a lot really well. I will say one thing I’ve really enjoyed about mirrorless is the ability to get stable video without a tripod. Even though the 90ds video quality is excellent be mindful a tripod will most likely be needed. Happy shooting out there!
Thanks for the great tip! I live near a beach, and mostly shoot surfing and seascapes. Will try these settings on my 90D for surfers, and now also attempt some BIF. Was the video shot with the same Sigma lens? Very impressive quality. 🍷
The footage of the animals was shot with the same lens, me talking was shot with the olympus em1 mk3 with the 12-40 f4. Glad you enjoyed and happy shooting!
I have never used the tamron so unfortunately I can’t speak on that. I will say the sigma is very versatile for photography and produces excellent image quality
@@timothylabrecque8589 thank you so much my friend👍 you’re the best 👍good job, I’ll order camera and Len today’s, but this’s Len is so heavy right, I get this lens on few years ago, I sales already 😅
