- We made a return visit to the Avon Valley Railway yesterday for the first time in six years, as our last visit there was way back on Sunday 11th November, 2018, when the railway ran their '100 Years Since the End of World War 1' event. To say that we've been a long time away from the Avon Valley for so long is an understatement.
Anyway, as mentioned above, it was our first visit back in six years as we went to Avon Valley Railway to enjoy a day at the 'End of Season Gala' that they were hosting, with GWR Class 14XX 1450 being the special guest star of the event, visiting from the Severn Valley Railway and it was just recently returning to service following a long overhaul absence of four years. It was working services with GWR Autocoach 323, which itself was visiting from the Bodmin Railway.
Other locos included two steam engines; 'Wimblebury', on long term loan from the Foxfield Railway, and Polish-built tank engine TKh49 4015 'Karel' from the home fleet, while Class 09 diesel shunter D3668 / 09004 was occupied with performing shunting duties at Oldland Common station.
While there isn't much footage to the film, we mainly went to the event to see and ride on the GWR Autotrain set, as we have seen both GWR 1450, as well as Austerity 'Wimblebury' at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway in years past, so getting to ride behind loco 1450, which was our very first heritage steam engine that we rode behind on in September 2010, was something that was very important to do once again.
