  • The first weekend of November saw the Avon Valley Railway hosting their End of Season Gala. Consisting of home fleet locos Hunslet Works 3839 Wimblebury 0-6-0ST, TKh49 4015 Karel aswell as visiting loco, newly overhauled 14xx 1450. Working with Autocoach 232. Footage taken from various locations along the line, thanks for watching.

    Brilliant footage, this is such a scenic line. It really deserves to be a lot longer.

    Fantastic Video - Really Enjoyed - it was great to see GWR 1450 + Autocoach Running on the Railway.
    Surprisingly I have never ever been to the Avon Valley Railway.

    Poor Tank Engines, can only hope the crews don't thrash them too hard, or at least provide good enough maintenance to make up for the thrashing. Especially 1450, they really looks like she's overfired with how much steam she's letting out.

    The crew too occupied with filming their "achievements" on the footplate by ragging 1450 especially at 13:40 to notice they've pushed a freshly overhauled engine too hard. The AVR need to calm down with the thrashing. An Austerity with a 5/6 coach train lifting it from the station is one thing, but a GWR tank with one auto coach doesn't need it - talk about overkill.

      Where's the problem? They're not standing too close to the line when filming, there seems to be a barrier or decent distance from the track whenever they are filming.

    I’ve never seen a loco so badly treated before. 1450 taken to the point of priming not once but twice. Not to mention it’s fresh out of the works. I hope the crew receive some constructive feedback ..

    • @josephstevens1331
      @josephstevens1331 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @ in short - the loco is being worked far too hard. With a high water level and little use of the reverser to notch back. Working an engine like that draws so much steam from the boiler, that it lifts water too, taking water straight into the cylinders. Water isn’t compressible so is a sure fire way to blow a cap off. You can see it starting to happen when the exhaust goes to a thick white cloud and the blast becomes dulled. The driver does proceed to open the drain taps to reduce the risk of damage but it should never get to that stage. It happens twice in this video - once is bad enough.

      @christopherflynn4094 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@cheetah3948 you obviously know nothing about how a steam loco works and that's fine not everyone does but that was terrible driving and and an awful way to use an engine, twice in that video the loco was being pushed far to hard, so no they are not supposed to be treated like that.

  • @peterwilliamallen1063
    @peterwilliamallen1063 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    This is why this loco and Auto Coach became based on the SVR as it was mistreated else where, not sure why it was steamed on the Avon Valley Railway in the first place before returning to the SVR

    Looking at the footage the driver of 1450 did exactly right,he opened the cylinder drain taps when he noticed the priming was coming on but on the other hand its the fireman's fault that he's put too much water into the boiler.

    • @robvincent1622
      @robvincent1622 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      An engine can prime without being over full if driven too hard, as seen.

    • @josephstevens1331
      @josephstevens1331 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RaggyAl1971 driver and fireman always work together. If the water was a little high, the driver should have adjusted his driving style to suit. But being driven this hard in full gear could cause priming at even lower water levels. Drain taps were opened far too late.
