    When Bob Segar wrote this song, he had super long hair. Hence the cafe "..is that a woman or a man"

    • @jadefire2817
      @jadefire2817 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Also it was originally written in 1972 when the conflict in Vietnam was at its peak, and many men grew their hair out long in protest. That was used as a cutting thing to say , "What is that? A woman , or a man?"

  • @Gladesboy4life

    This song is all about the lyrics, that’s why the instruments are very minimalistic. In the lyrics, Bob is portraying the mental and psychological toll one takes being on the road so much as a musician.

    "One night, (Prince) asked Matt Fink why the proudly working-class Detroit rocker had such a huge appeal; Fink replied that it was Seger's big, gut-punching ballads - 'We've Got Tonight,' 'Turn the Page' - that his fans loved, and that Prince should try writing that kind of anthem if he really wanted to conquer the pop world." Late nights around a bonfire with a good drink, good people, looking up at the stars, Bob Seger in the background. A lot of Detroit, southeastern Michigan is just the feel of this sound. Little rough around the edges, blue collar, the good kind of nostalgia.

That last kind of shout that he builds to is just fantastic. A lot of younger listeners don't understand what it was like to have long hair like he did back in the 60s and 70s, particularly touring in the midwest and south... that's what that section with the line "All the same old cliches, 'Is that a woman or a man?' / You always feel outnumbered, you don't dare take a stand" comes from. Guys would get cornered and beaten buy a group of guys for having long hair back then.

    Very much a song lamenting the boredom of a traveling musician. Sixteen hours to travel for that 2 hour high of the next gig, turn the page, and repeat. Jackson Browne does a similar theme in his song, The Load Out/Stay. For Seger, Night Moves is a wistful ballad of his passed youth and his first amorous encounter. Rambling Gambling Man is a much more uptempo rocker. Fire Lake gives me more of a Country vibe.

    Kid Rock said "Bob Seger has paid more dues than all the artists in the current Billboard Top 40 combined". 'Nuff said.

      And Kid Rock just mashes Seger songs up with Skynrd and his fans think he's a genius.

    Glad you liked it… I’m not a big Bob Seger fan but the first album I ever got for Christmas in 1978. It’s got the song that you need to live on it. It’s a live album and it does Nutbush city limits by Tina Turner… But it’s a dual song because it goes into the song traveling man I think you would really enjoy and you can receive the voice that you’re looking for

    For George: Of the Seger hits you listed, the one that's going to give you the high voltage singing you're craving is "Hollywood Nights". I have a feeling that's going to be an instant Staylist for you.

    Seger is singing with the intention to express tiredness in his voice like the road has beaten him down. This is why he does not use is big voice for this performance, most artists don't have this control and it's why Seger sings with so much soul. Other songs that require the big voice are "Even Now"," Roll me away","Fire inside". you would really like!

    Bob seger is a classic rock legend for a reason. He was one of the owners of radio play in the 70’s and 80’s.

    I am a huge Bob Seger fan. If you want to hear him really push it vocally, listen to The Fire Down Below, Nutbush City Limits, Down Home, (among many others).

    Thanks for reviewing this one! BUT, the actual “radio hit” is off Segers “Live Bullet” album which is one of the the best live albums ever. A couple of ones you should check out.. “Rosalie” “Night Moves” and my all time favorite from the “Live Bullet” album version “Travelin Man/Beautiful Loser” live combo version.
