My feelings exactly. I've never been a huge Bon Jovi fan. I've always looked at them as a talented, hard working band who learned early in the game that their bread and butter was going to be young chicks who were getting into Rock… and young dudes who were getting into chicks, who were getting into Rock. Most dudes who wanted to impress a wanna-be rocker chick knew that blasting Ozzy and talking about the intricacies of a Randy Rhoads solo was a surefire way NOT to get a second date with her. Lots of girls were looking for a pretty-boy band to swoon over. Van Halen with David Lee Roth was a little too dangerous for many of them and Iron Maiden was too heavy (both musically and lyrically). I've always preferred my rock a little harder and less "poppy"... BUT... I've got to give credit where it's due. This song sets a mood and a feeling that hits the spot.
@@SouthTexasRocker1 Every 80s pretty boy band died after grunge hit the scene. But Bon Jovi continued to generate hits around the world throughout the 90s to mid-2000s.
When they were making the movie Young Guns II, Emilio Estevez asked Bon Jovi about using this song for the soundtrack. Instead, he wrote a whole new song just for the film instead, called Blaze of Glory. You should check that one out too.
Awww, man, I have Young guns II soundtrack on vinyl and I wore out the places where Blaze of glory and Miracle were on. I remember being around ten when it came out and the video for Miracle with Jon ridin' a Harley in the desert with his majestic hair flowing behind him.
This song is BY FAR my favorite Bon Jovi song. I was kind of detractor, back in the day, but they shut me up with this track. When he sings, "I've seen a million faces, and I rocked them all," I had to say, Damn, I've got to give it to you. You did! He even rocked me.
One of greatest examples of songwriting and musical composition in my opinion. Jon recently explained on SiriusXM’s “Hair Nation” channel that this record blew up and changed their lives forever. He recalled going over to Richie’s Mom’s house and writing this song beside the washing machine in her basement.
Jon Bon Jovi is also quite a humanitarian. Someone mentioned his restaurants that have no prices to help the community. He does a lot for children organizations supporting music in school. He’s a great dude. I appreciate their music more as an adult then I did when I was a teen when it all came out.
I wish more of the guys from this era did the same kind of stuff that JBJ does. I suppose money is a factor though. JBJ kept producing and making money. I think the majority of the bands from this time just snorted their bank accounts.
Excellent song, fun fact Emilio Estevev wanted this song for "Young Guns", and Bon Jovi said it was not right for the movie. So he wrote "Blaze of Glory" for the movie.
The first time that I heard this song was in the movie Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. This song is a timeless classic. A big hug from a Brazilian fan!
Wow. On Tuesday my mom unexpectedly passed away. Her absolute favorite of all time was Bon Jovi. We even played Livin on a Prayer during her slide show at the memorial on Friday. Really put a smile on my face to see this pop up in my notifications
man sorry to hear that. My mom was a big fan too. I remember her picking me up after school in her beat up car with Bon Jovi blaring on the radio (cassette player) haha ....good memories
George saying that the acoustic portion is nasty makes me wish they would do "Diary of A Madman" because the classical portions in the odd time signature going into the metal riff...f**k...so good!
Those albums are so good because he had a real band back then... Randy, bob and Lee were amazing together. Could you imagine how good ozzys latest album would be with bob daisley and zack wylde on board as songwriters.
I became a Bon Jovi fan when my daughters played the music in the car. Just love all their stuff. Plus Bon Jovi is still married to the same lady and is a really good guy. He feeds the poor and many other charities. So just a great guy and great singer.
No they didn't write there own songs. Imagine in late 60's to 71 a small group of women cruising on the grey hound bus at many stops these women scout the banks or jewelry stores and robbed them. Took there wigs off and back on the bus.
Interestingly enough, Wanted Dead or Alive was requested by Emilio Estevez to be on the soundtrack for the film but Jon Bon Jovi declined since he thought the lyrics didn't match with the film. Instead he wrote Blaze of Glory, according to Kiefer Sutherland, Jon came to the set when the actors were eating hamburgers and started to write something on a napkin as they were talking about the film. Sutherland claims that within six minutes Jon had written Blaze of Glory which went on to be hit single as if it were the easiest thing in the world.
I actually prefer blaze of glory. They are both great songs but blaze was written by John trying to be in the mind of Billie the kid and it was perfect
Yea I mean not to sound like an asshole but if you've literally paid any attention whatsoever and actually listened to music in the past 40 years it's impossible to not have heard Bon Jovi's radio hits. Literally every bar that has ever existed has played this song at least 700,000 times. Bar, not "club". Before the 00's it was a lot harder to have not heard this music, as TH-cam and all these mumble rappers and such and probably 60% of the shitty music in the world didn't exist.
@@LudusAurea It's just different circles. I'm big into modern rock and so are all my friends, we're so insulated from the pop music world that the biggest pop songs I know about were Old Town Road and now WAP, and that's only because it was so ridiculous. I used to call it shoe box music. All the bands u liked but didn't want your fellow rockers to know. Hidden under the bed in a shoe box with your other stashed stuff!! Ha....guilty here!
Nick Guillen, yep... but look at who is still playing from the 80’s and still playing stadiums! It’s a very small number of 80’s bands that can still play a stadium. Most aren’t playing music at all. And the ones that are still playing, are on a casino tour. And nothing wrong with the casino touring. I have seen some great shows. Just saying it is hard, really hard, to remain big enough to fill up arena for 30 years.
LOL same here! I remember feeling ashamed for liking Moonlight Shadow... I still love metal but I got to appreciate a lot of mainstream music over the years, and Wanted is definitely way up in my alltime faves
The song's title pays homage to Jon's admiration for Old West heroes, and how he identifies with them as being hated and loved at the same time ("wanted dead or alive", so to speak). During an interview on Inside the Actors Studio, Jon said he got the inspiration for the song early one morning when he could not sleep while riding in a tour bus. The "lifestyle of every rock band" was similar to that of outlaws in that each was, "a young band of thieves, riding into town, stealing the money, the girls, and the booze before the sun came up."
The movie company that made Young Guns II came to Jon and asked him if they could use this song for their movie about Billy the Kid. Jon told him that Wanted Dead or Alive didn’t really match the movie but that he would write a song that would fit better. He wrote Blaze of Glory, and then ended up writing the whole soundtrack for the move. Crazy talented!!
Cool that you guys are diggin this song, but in “86” when we were in college, this album blew up! These songs were everywhere, every day. Great times the “80’s!
This album dropped right when me and my husband got together. We WORE IT OUT! I was 17 and he 16. Hair metal bands get a bad rap. There are SO many great bands and songs of that era! The next album was fire too. Bad Medicine is my favorite track off that album. Bon Jovi did a song for the movie Young Guns called Blaze of Glory. It is a western about Billy the Kid. Enjoy the ride boys!!!
Blaze of Glory is a pretty badass tune as well, I agree. I should point out, though, that it's a solo Jon Bon Jovi song (and album), not by Bon Jovi the band.
Speaking of, recently-ish Corey Taylor (from Slipnot) and Jensen Ackles (who plays Dean and is a musician in his own right with an album out) did a cover of this song at one of the convention concerts. Jensen usually does get up and do a song or two with the convention band (Louden Swain, which is headed by the dude who plays god. They’re a pretty good band too), but I don’t think anyone saw Corey Taylor coming. It’s pretty damn good. They’re both excellent rock singers.
I like how the song starts off softly, takes you on a journey and gently sets you back down again. I like how well the words are married to the melody, modulating in a very conversational way. I like how heavy the guitars get, but still sound smooth and pleasant to the ear. Just about a perfect song. Bon Jovi and Ratt, et al, would have been called "pop metal" back in the day.
I had the opportunity to drive David Bryan, keyboardist, 3 years in a row when he came to play in the Monday After The Masters Hootie and the Blowfish Golf Tournament in SC. He requested me...called me Trixie from Dixie. One of the nicest guys in rock-n-roll. Not arrogant and told me some wild stories. Just adore him.
Usually no matter who listens to this song, everybody likes to sing Richie's background vocal during the chorus: "I'm wanted, WANT EE ED, dead or alive" 👍
I was a Bon Jovi fan from the Runaway album and saw every concert through the 80's multiple times. They put on a great show and the music was amazing. The music just feels good and even the stuff they are making today still is great. I am glad my kids love them and my grandkids like Bon Jovi I am hoping maybe to be able in a few years to be able to a three-generation Bon Jovi concert trip. It should be a blast!!
People don’t like Bon Jovi because they were considered too “poppy” and relied on Jon Bon Jovis good looks too much, even though I consider him alongside Mercury and Bono as my favourite Rock vocalists, also how can you not love Richie’s skills, I recommend keep the faith next, or Bed of roses if you just want to hear a vocal masterclass
The problem is that Bon Jovi didn't have a cool name for his group. Tom Petty had the Hearbreakers, Neil Young had Crazy Horse, and Bruce Sprinsteen had the E-Street Band. Make the band part of the team..
There's always that hipster element to music fandom. Any time a group or album becomes very popular, it can become "too" popular from the perspective of the original fans, and they will criticize it out of more of an emotional reaction to the popularity phenomenon than any actual reaction to the songs themselves.

We found out on a Friday, in 1996, celebrated all weekend, and he passed away suddenly on Monday. I’m grateful that at least he knew I was pregnant. He was so excited to become a father. And he would have been an amazing one at that. I still have my Rebel and our daughter is now 24 years old. It will be hers someday. The steel horse is trains and buses going from one town to another to play their rock concerts. Wanted dead or alive is a theme different rock artists have sung about in different ways. It means that being on the road is hard on the band. It has killed musicians. But they have to play the shows. The rock fans have paid the tickets and want a great show, regardless of the hardships the band goes through or how they feel that night. Wanted, dead or alive.
Wow, insanity. How on God’s green Earth have y’all’s just NOW heard the best song Bon Jovi ever made!!! I was a sophomore in high school when this album hit!

One of the greatest rock songs ever written and performed. It sets a scene in your mind and you almost feel how it is to be a touring musician. It's not easy.
He could have been a lead vocalist for any band. But you'll find that a lot with the truly great bands. If they wanted to, any of the members could have thrived on their own but the fact that they came together is what makes them so great. Queen comes to mind, and Styx.
When it got to the chorus “...I’m wanted...dead or alive” George recognized it and wondered where he’d heard it. If you’ve ever seen the hit Discovery Channel show Deadliest Catch, even in passing, they use it as the theme song. Many people who don’t know Bon Jovi, know this song from there.
You mean the song written and originally performed by George Harrison, please give credit to the original when you recommend a cover version of a song.
This is truly a song that transcends the artist. The ultimate definition of a crossover hit. It does not matter who you are, or if anyone in the room even likes Bon Jovi, if this song is put on, they tell you to turn it up. It's just a well written, amazingly performed song.

This 100%
@@SouthTexasRocker1 Every 80s pretty boy band died after grunge hit the scene.
Jon Bon Jovi wrote a whole album for the movie that became it’s soundtrack as well as his first solo album.
And both songs are featured in Charlie and Mac's funeral
Possibly their best....
Awww, man, I have Young guns II soundtrack on vinyl and I wore out the places where Blaze of glory and Miracle were on. I remember being around ten when it came out and the video for Miracle with Jon ridin' a Harley in the desert with his majestic hair flowing behind him.
Jon Bon Jovi was in the movie too.
80's back when everyone played and sang their assess off. Undeniable.
This is one (amazing) song. Don't get it twisted tho.
And had harmony when there was no such thing as "autotune".
Which is another great song, and one of my favorites solos.
That soundtrack is excellent.
The first time that I heard this song was in the movie Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. This song is a timeless classic. A big hug from a Brazilian fan!
Didn't know that! I always dug that song as well, saw that flick in the theatre! It was Young Guns 2 though right?
Young Guns II is the one that had "Blaze of Glory"
Jon and Richie wrote the song and the music. The “cadence”, too. They are geniuses!
Wow. On Tuesday my mom unexpectedly passed away. Her absolute favorite of all time was Bon Jovi. We even played Livin on a Prayer during her slide show at the memorial on Friday. Really put a smile on my face to see this pop up in my notifications
My condolences for your loss.
My most heartfelt condolences. This hurts my heart, but am glad to see this put a smile on your face.

man sorry to hear that. My mom was a big fan too. I remember her picking me up after school in her beat up car with Bon Jovi blaring on the radio (cassette player) haha ....good memories
Here before the copyright strike.
lmao
Haha we shall see
Is Bon Jovi known for striking videos?
Haha yeah its gonna be removed
Sweet Cyanide they’re doing the same with Instagram and DJ’s
Greatest rock ballad ever written in my book. It's timeless as well, I'll b rockin this track till I'm gone.
George saying that the acoustic portion is nasty makes me wish they would do "Diary of A Madman" because the classical portions in the odd time signature going into the metal riff...f**k...so good!
Ozzy's best material hands down.
Those albums are so good because he had a real band back then... Randy, bob and Lee were amazing together. Could you imagine how good ozzys latest album would be with bob daisley and zack wylde on board as songwriters.
100 % .. been requesting this since before the Sabbath marathon. hopefully my "like" on this comment will help it get noticed
ErichWilliam I’ve suggested they listen Diary of a Madam more than a dozen times
@@joserafaelteran8932 Agree. Everything comes together so well and Randy's guitar tone is soooo satisfying. Arguably just as good as early Van Halen.
I became a Bon Jovi fan when my daughters played the music in the car. Just love all their stuff. Plus Bon Jovi is still married to the same lady and is a really good guy. He feeds the poor and many other charities. So just a great guy and great singer.
The beauty of the ‘80s rock bands is that they wrote their own songs themselves.
No they didn't write there own songs. Imagine in late 60's to 71 a small group of women cruising on the grey hound bus at many stops these women scout the banks or jewelry stores and robbed them. Took there wigs off and back on the bus.
Not as often as you’d think. The record executives didn’t get a bonus for publishing royalties that way.
@Brett Well, co-wrote with Jon and Richie. But you have a point of course. This song however was written by Jon and Richie alone.
Blaze of Glory that he did for Young Guns is a pretty sick song similar to this.
Straight up
Yesssssssssssss!
I actually prefer blaze of glory. They are both great songs but blaze was written by John trying to be in the mind of Billie the kid and it was perfect
Dylan Gregory That whole album is gold.
Please upload more for the people who have nothing to do in Quarantine
I'm not a Bon Jovi fan at all, but this is one of the greatest songs ever. Also, the solo is just EPIC.
I don’t know how someone could’ve made it that far into life without hearing this song. It’s goddamn everywhere 😂
I've never actually heard the song before, so I can see it totally possible that if you're into a different world than me you might not have heard this song. I bet any RnB head that was into 80s-90s stuff would be AMAZED at my lack of knowledge for stuff like that.
And they never heard of Its my life?? Wth

This was the theme to Dealiest Catch for years on Discovery Channel

Please, please, PLEASE react to Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora performance at the MTV 1989 Awards, it’s just the two of them on acoustic guitars and damn they deliver a stellar performance of Living On A Pray and Wanted Dean Or Alive they have amazing ballad’s to start with Bed Of Roses Or Always, or I’ll Be There For You! By the way if you love Wanted Dead Or Alive do Jon’s song Blaze Of Glory from the soundtrack he wrote for Young Guns 2! You will not be sorry, I promise you! When will you guys do You Give Love A Bad Name?? They are killer live! Thanks for showing Bon Jovi some ❤️ love! Here’s some trivia for you guys, here is how they did the Slippery When Wet cover for the album, they took a black trash bag sprayed it with water than Jon wrote on there Slippery When Wet, thought you might enjoy that if you look at the cover on the album!
Lol awesome. I just posted the same thing about MTV awards and this song. My favorite version of it.
Ty 😁
Hell Yes!! My ALL time favorite!!!!
A lot of people credit that performance as the genesis of the "Unplugged" series that MTV ran for years. It was spectacular!
@@JustinSmithPYRO My favorite version of it also.
I grew up as a “metal head” so it wasn’t cool to like Bon Jovi, but all of my friends and I were closet fans. Great hit making band. No doubt about it.
Define "metal head"
But the girls loved them, so there it was.
That’s the sweet sweet sound of a 12 string guitar.
Indeed
The song's title pays homage to Jon's admiration for Old West heroes, and how he identifies with them as being hated and loved at the same time ("wanted dead or alive", so to speak). During an interview on Inside the Actors Studio, Jon said he got the inspiration for the song early one morning when he could not sleep while riding in a tour bus. The "lifestyle of every rock band" was similar to that of outlaws in that each was, "a young band of thieves, riding into town, stealing the money, the girls, and the booze before the sun came up."
Ryan is one of those guys that sing the "wanted" 2nd vocals the first time around
Wondered if anyone else was going to comment on that! Laughed out loud at the fist going up and shaking on the first "wanted"!
He's becoming more annoying as the years pass. Snapping, knocking the table and generally yapping non-stop.
Right. It was bugging the crap out of me
Yeah, don't be that guy. LOL

This is Bon Jovi's true monster of a song. Infinitely repeatable.
I don't care what anyone says. Now that you've done this song, you've gotta react to Bon Jovi's "Blaze of Glory" off the "Young Guns" soundtrack.
Yes!!!! I've always thought of them as companion songs.
Chris Lowry YESSSSSSSS
Yeah this is prolly the only Bon Jovi song I actually like. So perfect for that movie too.
The producers of Young Guns II asked to use "Dead Or Alive." Jon Bon Jovi told them he would write them a new, better song. I think he did.
Blaze of Glory was another great tune too. A lot of Jovi's work is just iconic.
Cool that you guys are diggin this song, but in “86” when we were in college, this album blew up! These songs were everywhere, every day. Great times the “80’s!
This is probably the 4th time I come back to watch this reaction. A favorite, for sure. Greetings from México.
Young Guns II 😀
@@randall-king And Jon had a brief cameo in that movie!
Yes! Blaze of Glory is another great one!
Blaze of Glory is a pretty badass tune as well, I agree. I should point out, though, that it's a solo Jon Bon Jovi song (and album), not by Bon Jovi the band.
Randall King I’ll make u famous!!!
Like Dean Winchester said "Bon Jovi rocks on occasion"
All night, and part of every day...
Bon Jovi rocks... ALWAYS. I love Dean Winvhester!!! That was a good call dude. Lol
Forgot how freaking awesome this song is. Definitely my favorite Bon Jovi tune.
One of the 80s hair bands that I didn't get to see in concert.
It’s 3:55 am but I’m listening to this lol
hell it's 2 am here.
6 pm (Sunday) for me :)

4:16 am and I’m just catching it now.
Bwahaha. I just typed that exact same thing before I scrolled down and saw your post lolol
You guys give me hope that there is still good people in this world.... thank you for all you do!
It’s the way he delivers the words, tone and the composure of his style with each song he sings!
Jon’s vocals are always 🔥
Bed of Roses a must
There's always that hipster element to music fandom. Any time a group or album becomes very popular, it can become "too" popular from the perspective of the original fans, and they will criticize it out of more of an emotional reaction to the popularity phenomenon than any actual reaction to the songs themselves.
Fun fact: Jon Bon Jovi is a great nephew to Frank Sinatra
And Richie Sambora was married to Heather Locklear opposites really do attract to each other
Ya and look who married Valerie Bertinelli. 🤣

“On a steel horse I ride” is still one of the sexiest lines in music (if you love men on motorcycles). My late husband used to ride a fat, loud lowboy and this song makes me think of him. I could listen to it over and over and over again.
Sorry for your loss, but glad he rode. And that this reminds you of him! :-)
@@greenzombie77 Thank you. When we were dating in college, engaged but not yet married, he gave me a 1985 Honda Rebel for my 20th birthday. He’d ride his Triumph and I’d ride my Honda next to him. Hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago. We married right after college. I lost him two years after, when he was only 26, and I was 24 and pregnant with my first child. Though I’ve moved on and married a wonderful man, who understands that i didn’t get divorced and honors my late husband, I still miss him every minute of every day. Always will. And I can’t wait to see him again someday in heaven.
Those memories are amazing. My first bike was an 87 Rebel 450. Loved that bike.
@@greenzombie77 That’s a Great bike. The 250 is all I can handle, and sometimes even that is too big and heavy for me. At only 5’2” and 105lbs, stopping at lights can be a challenge, as my toes barely touch the ground. But there are few feelings as amazing as riding on a backroad or through the mountains, wind in your face, the rumble underneath you, freedom in the air and the scenery as you ride around each corner. I sure do miss riding with my late husband. It’s a memory I think of every single day.

Richie's vocals on this song are the ultimate under appreciation.
He could have been a lead vocalist for any band. But you'll find that a lot with the truly great bands. If they wanted to, any of the members could have thrived on their own but the fact that they came together is what makes them so great. Queen comes to mind, and Styx.
100% agree i like his vocals more than Jon
Omg…another underrated. 😂😂😂
