    I am so happy to see you swatching the DS gouache paints. I just became aware of them and I am very curious how they paint. Looking forward to seeing the various paintings you do & hear what your thoughts are. Thank you!

    The vulture is a cool stamp and I like the strong colour effect of the gouache. Perfect for the old “buzzer”! ❤️🇨🇦

    I am really hoping you will be doing lots of gouache painting. I am trying to learn! Thank you!

    I agree with your opinion on the clean and simple, clean and simple just means clean and simple it doesn't mean it's a one layer card. Anyway I'm excited to see what you do with the gouache I love watching you create things.

    Elk these are all great things to know about gouache. So much to learn beyond the fact that they’re opaque

    One of the first things I learned was I had no clue as to how to pronounce Gouache. I thought I was listening well at the beginning but I heard the word Squash and had to back it up to see what it was you actually said. Let the fun begin. Lovely colors.

    Your buzzard is awesome and in this medium it looks like something from Hannah-Barbara. I am really enjoying your process. I have a set of Holbein gouache, I need to learn how to use them properly.

    I myself am just venturing into gouache. In educating myself (and you may cover this at some point in sharing your gouache journey) all "gouache" is not the same as there is something called "acrylic" gouache. Acrylic gouache acts somewhat like acrylic paint in that once it dries, it can't be reactivated like "regular"/DS gouache which acts more like watercolor. It took me a bit to figure out the difference as gouache paint was very foreign to me and although I have heard the name I never really knew what it was or how it differed from other mediums. Sure glad DS sent you a set of their new gouache product. Excited to watch your journey. Thanks for inviting us along.

    I've only done a little with gouache, but it's enough to know I love it - and I look forward to seeing your video series on the subject. Even in my very limited experience, I found that I much preferred working with freshly squeezed gouache; the dried paint is very hard to rehydrate.

      @SandyAllnock1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe that depends on the brand. The more I’m reading about it, the cheaper the paint, the harder to reconstitute.

      @@SandyAllnock1 I need to try the DS gouache; I’ve got the primaries in Holbein, Schminke and W&N. Gouache works well for calligraphy, too!

    I bet you’ll end up falling in love with gouache. I’m more well-versed in M Graham or Holbein gouache, and I’m not a fan of the jelly-cups. Huge tip I found-synthetic (golden taklon) brushes are my preference when painting with gouache. Also if you’re interested & haven’t checked out his work, James Gurney (Dinotopia) is the artist from whom I have learned the most about gouache. This will be a fun month, Sandy! Thanks for sharing❤❤

      I’ve been binging on James, he’s got a style that’s compatible with mine. I’m finding a lot of gouache artists who do basically the same thing, which I find is not the way I want to paint. And something it’s really frightening is some of mine feel a bit like oil painting and I’m afraid I might have to try that at some point 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think I need a sugar daddy 🤣

      @@SandyAllnock1 😂😂I’m dying laughing!!! Yes-gouache is a lot like oil…but has infinite workability with its ability to rewet. You can use a lot of oil & acrylic techniques…and watercolor techniques if it’s watered down enough! Pretty cool stuff! Enjoy the journey💞💞💞

    I love the graphic effect of paint by number . . . Have since my first kit 50 years ago. Will be jumping back into PBN again so have been watching lots of videos. Would a product such as Flow Aid work with gouache? I used gouache in illumination many years ago but moved away from both that hobby and the products. Have been thinking about using gouache again so this idea is very timely for me. Always enjoy your videos and your observations. Thank you for taking us along on your journeys!

    • @SandyAllnock1

      I’m not considering adding anything at this point. Mixing the paint properly is a skill I want to gain, and trying to use a product just to get away from the basics of technique is skipping over a necessary step.

    I am VERY intrigued by gouaches. Do you have a recommendation for trying either the Daniel Smith's vs the Altenew selection of gouaches? thanks! I value your opinion!

    • @SandyAllnock1
      @SandyAllnock1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've only tried the DS gouache. However as much as I love Altenew's stamps, I'm not in love with much of their art supplies; they're promoted as artist grade but everything I've tried has been student grade and a bit disappointing.

    Can you please give me some tips how to thicken acrylic paint?

    • @SandyAllnock1
      @SandyAllnock1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I don’t work with acrylic; I assume letting it dry some would do that if you’ve added too much water.

      Depends on the brand you are using. Many of the cheaper acrylics (like Delta Ceramcoat) have much less pigment and there's nothing you can do with them. You might like JoSonja acrylic gouache which is a creamier, heavy-bodied acrylic.
