I love you! Thank you so much!!! I’m a complete beginner and I’m not good at drawing yet. I am impatient and easily discouraged and bored and overwhelmed. I discovered the joy of using gouache on one of my adult coloring books. I’m starting to use gouache in my gratitude/bullet journal. I won’t make masterpieces to frame and hang. But in little creative joys, I am building mental health.
I used gouache in college, but didn't think I liked them. After watching your videos (and a thousand others) not only did I get out my gouache, but I ordered Turner Acrylic Gouache.... I'm love, obsessed. Thank you for your videos.
Good and Helpful Video! Re tip 6: Recently while doing Plein Air I was short on time and my rinse water was getting too polluted (I didn’t want to use precious time to get fresh water) so I wiped my brush off on the clean damp portion of my paper towel and there was enough moisture to both clean and reactivate the paint without getting too wet. Re tip 7: Best part of your video! Thanks!
I love, love gouache 😊 I have the same pallet you have there. I put a couple of drops of Winsor and Newton blending medium into each well and mix it into the gouache. This helps the gouache to not dry up and crack too much or not at all, in the pallet. I use Winsor and Newton gouache. 😃
What a great video Sandy. I have been working in gauche on and off for many many years, my Dad introduced me to it when I was about 10 years old. He was a graphic designer and worked in gouache a lot of the time for his design work. I love the control you can get with it as well as the more watercolour like washes. That said you have packed a lot of great information into this short video, some of which I didn’t know, so thank you for that. I am particularly intrigued by that sealant you use, how cool is that! I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had to rescue a piece because it’s got wet again! I really wish there were more hours in the day as I just don’t have time to spend painting that I would like. Ho hum… maybe when I retire. Thank you for sharing. ❤😘
Had a watercolor teacher bad mouth Canson at the beginning of class. That's what I had. Felt embarrassed as it was all I could afford but didn't say anything. Later in class she was assisting me by painting on my cheap paper and commented, "What kind of paper is this? It's lovely." I told her and she just said, "Hmmm". Go figure.
That saddens me to read that🙁 I’m glad you showed her in the end and I hope that she was embarrassed and greatly humbled. It also shows complete ignorance and lack of understanding as well as compassion on the part of that teacher. Cellulose papers have qualities that can be good and bad but the sign of a good teacher is one that can explain how to work through those challenges and how to take advantage of certain properties that are beneficial.
I think you’ll find it pretty good! It’s slick enough that you don’t get caught on too much texture, but it’s heavy enough and it won’t warp like mad. Good luck!
I’m am going to try my hand at acryla gouache, just waiting on my final supply to come Friday! I enjoyed this video on gouache, may try to get back in it.
Good luck!! I had to paint that apple in acrylic, and had a bear of a time working with something that dries and won’t move-I’m not sure how close to permanent acrylagouache is, you’ll have to let me know!
@@pamb2734 I’m not sure I trust it not to freeze up in a palette…test put a color for a week or two to see how it does. If the WN dries, it could be challenging/-but maybe not! I’m looking forward to hearing your experience 😀
If you are referring to JoSonja paints, they are a creamier acrylic and they cover nicely and blend well. But they are still acrylic. Once they dry, you cannot rewet them. The Sta Wet palette helps the paint stay wet longer while it is on the palette (hence the name!). But it will eventually dry. And it will ruin your brushes if you don't rinse them regularly. Been an acrylic painter for many years and have used many paint brands. The main difference is the amount of pigment they contain, and how many coats you need for coverage.
For white, I just picked up a 75ml tube of Lukas white for like 8 bucks. I was expecting it to be trash, but so far it's been a pleasant mixing white! Might be worth a try, since you go through so much white in gouache.
I’m a professional acrylic painter but I’ve never really worked with watercolour. I’m keen on gouche as a sort of inbetween medium but I wondered should I investigate your watercolour class before the qouche one so I don’t just have acrylic techniques in my head?
Hi Sandy, I have been making my own Xmas cards for more than 10 years. I use my Cricut, watercolors, and even quill some. Gouache is a new medium for me but I would like to make a few cards this year using this paint. How can I make sure I'm notified when your Xmas card gouache series will begin?
It's been a minute since I bought gouache for my comparison of the different companies, but Royal Talens was cheaper, and still pro quality. If you're getting student gouache, Arteza is the best I think. It's definitely still student quality.
Hands down the BEST video on gouache! Best. I have been led astray - hither thither because of different YT videos on gouache tips. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️
Wow, thank you!
So much great information, especially for a beginner! Thanks, Sandy!

Obviously you are great at painting - but you are equally as great at SPEAKING 🎉 perfect cadence, no fillers, and you go girl!
Years of toastmasters! but don't listen too closely, I always slip some so's and uhms in there somewhere, LOLOL
O boy! I’m looking forward to trying this

I wonder if they just didn’t teach it right back then. It’s fun!
Great video. Technique was WAY beyond my abilities but I can still take away some ideas ti try.

I loved this mornings video. I found the information helpful and looking forward to Friday. 🙂
thank you for sharing canson xl i have used it for hundreds of paintings ,48.00 for a 6 pad set
Great info is right! thank you.
This is fabulous
Great informative video Sandy, now if only I didn’t have to work & had time to play & watch more! One day- like the new view too.❤

Did I hear Gouache Xmas cards? How fun.
Wow Sandy, that’s a lot of information packed into a short video. Definitely going to check out your gouache classes!
It was kind of like a fire hose, but I hate wasting peoples time blathering more than I need to😜
preserving gouache is definitely news to me! great video.

What a legacy from your dad! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wat a great video/info for gouache... Thanks so so much dear Sandy... Will chk out yr videos & class
Glad it was helpful!
That is a very interesting video. 🙂
Thanks! Loved the 7 tips!
I'm excited about this new class. I just need to work on my time management so I can play!!
Thank you Sandy!❤😊
You are so welcome

I find it pretty ghastly for traditional watercolor but dang if it doesn’t do great for stamped watercolor and gouache!
@@SandyAllnock1- I recently discovered it is really nice for ink blending.
@@sherrywoods4630 yup I bet it’s great for that too. Anything that requires a nearly-but-not-totally-slick surface.
😂

Bonanza! You came up in my feed today! You are today’s Art Angel! Thank you for your much needed information 🙏🏼
You are so welcome!
I got some of the Canson paper to try. It came today. I learned Gouache by trial and error.

Any opinion on inexpensive gouache that's not made in China?
Wish I had found some. I tried! But the WN set is about $60 which isn’t awful.
