Let’s not forget that it was also meant for Toby Keith and what he said regarding this situation. At their concerts, Natalie Maine wore a t-shirt saying FU*K TK
At Toby Keith's concerts, he put a backdrop of Natalie Maines & Saddam Hussein. This while they were inundated with death threats, their career was derailed and they had to pack up their kids and move away from Nashville to another state. I'm told that later Keith said he'd been listening to the wrong people and more or less took it back. At the time, it fanned the flames of the real danger they were in.
And let’s not forget the hypocrite and self-righteous Reba McIntyre who publicly called for radio stations to not play their music and publicly called for people to not purchase their music. She was and continues to be a hypocritical phony.
Love the Dixie Chicks and this is a personal favorite! These ladies are so talented, and willing to speak out and up, and that's why they have my respect. Thanks Harri
Thanks Harri nice reaction as always. I agree her vocals are really good and the band sounds great behind her. The message is clear and well does make this song more powerful if you know the back story. I really like it for both those reasons.
I had one of their albums, when Natalie gave her opinion, in 2003, at the start of the 2nd Iraq War. When their music was banned, and their records destroyed publicly -I went and bought their albums, cd singles, concert dvd, even vinyl to balance. I became a dedicated fan of these Women. This album is brilliant, very personal -produced by Rick Rubin. They didn’t tour for much for a while. It took The Chicks several years to make another record (personal life needs) and to change their name, without Dixie. (Fact, the term Dixie, for the American South, is based on the French word for Ten, “dix”. France had colonized a good portion of what became America, and Canada. The French 10 coin was more value than the early American dollar 💵. Napoleon sold the French region, when Tomas Jefferson was our President, he needed funds and resource for his wars, not colonial lands. So, up from Louisiana to the Great Lakes, along the Mississippi, the Dix’ coin was money, and the name Dixie was used. 🤔📚
the video for this one is a work of art too. The Band suffered blacklisting, record burning, death threats, protests at concerts all because they said that they were not proud to be from the same state as Bush. That's it. They made a negative comment about his war and the right went ballistic.
@@catherinedorney6092 Yes, it is! Both the official video as well as the live performance (VH1 Storytellers) are amazing. I have a ton of admiration for Natalie’s courage in the face of adversity, knowing the Dixie Chicks’ careers were being sabotaged by powerful bullies in the industry who had a total disregard for free speech.
What they said wouldn’t have been such a big deal if a male country star hadn’t gotten involved and whipped people up against them. I guess he thought he was doing the right thing but my personal opinion was he blew up a single comment into a huge controversy that lead to death threats against them and their families. Heck at that point in time I said multiple times to many people that I was ashamed to be an American and guess what? Nobody threatened me, no body called me names, told me they hated me, threatened me with death. Members of my family who were all for whatever Bush said agreed with me that the reaction against them seemed more pushed by a personal beef with them as opposed to the initial response being about what they actually said. Everyone just jumped on the hate bandwagon because, for some reason, they thought hate and threatening to kill another person was an appropriate response. I think my response to the country star who blew it all up was much more appropriate. I used to love his music and bought every album he released. Since he lit the match for this whole thing and unleashed all that hatred towards another I haven’t bought another album and I no longer listen to his music. He can sow hate but I don’t have to support it. But … and here’s the big thing, I have never tried to talk a single person out of buying or playing his music and though many people know there is a male country star I stopped listening to because of all this I have never given them a name (even when asked) and I have never suggested anyone stop listening to him. If they don’t remember from back then they can do their research and decide how they feel for themselves. Not my job to spread hate towards him. My belief is karma will give each what they deserve in the end even if it is only after death. I do have to admit I really wonder why so many people claiming to be Christian spend so much time hating others. Guess they forgot Christian means following the words of Christ.
Le lead singer was right and she had the right to say that : " She was ashame to be from the same state of President Bush, that is from Texas" ! They were treated very harsly!
She got death threats. , country stations blacklisted them, there were public burnings of their cds...etc etc...this song is 100 per cent in response to what they faced.
Love the Chicks...they have countless great songs that you should look at!! Goodbye Earl, Ready to Run, Truth No 2, Cowboy Take Me Away, March March...for the record, the Chicks are definitely talking about the way they were trashed by the backwards country music establishment and fans after making that accurate comment about warmonger Bush...major respect to the Chicks
The Chicks were about 10 years ahead of their time. Complete career cancellation cuz they spoke against the president when that’s so normal these days. So glad they came back
From their 2006 album, "Taking the Long Way," in response to their backlash from 2003 after criticizing President George W. Bush and said they were ashamed he wasTexan. They were banned from country music stations and received death threats. An emotional song, with great lyrics and wonderful guitars. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Catherine.👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I love these ladies. Think they are amazing. I think they got bad press bs on the comment they made. It is just stupid. These ladies are great. Thank you for this.
Most of the album was a fuck-u to the haters. Their songs were pulled by the right wing radio stations, CDs burned, the whole bag of horrors. Just a hint of the ring wing hate to come. One of my faves on the album is “Lubbock or Leave It” about the whole Christian thing. ❤️🇨🇦
Fantastic choice Catherine! I have great admiration for Natalie and the Chicks. We should all speak out against the powerful people who want to curtail our rights. The country music community treated these women so poorly and I’m so glad they didn’t cave under the pressure. Great input from Harri. Thanks Catherine and Harri 🌺✌️
It always makes me shake my head when people on both sides, who claim to support free speech, are the first ones to try to cancel someone else for exercising that right.
I love most Dixie Chicks songs. I am afraid, America 🇺🇸, my beloved Nation has become a place where if you don't agree with a point of view your vilified. Freedom of Speech, ah but only if it is in agreement with the listener. It's a shame.
Thank you Harri. I can't stand politics but I can't stand a wrong not being heard. Everyone else has a voice so what makes anyone's so much more important? I believe in music. Thank you for indulging me. Love to all the besties!!
I didn't see nothing wrong with what she said i think a lot of people felt this way at that time she said they were ashamed of George Bush being from Texas.
It's still a free country (or is it?) People are free to make fools of themselves with forcing their politics into whatever "product" they are selling. Bud Light, Target, all are free to bite the hand that feeds them.
@@hannahchaddock303it's crazy that the side that is always saying "it's my first amendment rights blah blah blah. It's a free country. Blah blah" really is so upset every single time an opposing view to theirs uses that same right. Like jeeze. These comments are disheartening. People saying "used to like them" is crazy like all their music is suddenly bad now because they disagree. It's wild and the attitude that has our entire country crumbling at our feet.
Ya know, for a country - pop band, this is actually a quite a heavy duty powerful song ! and she had a right to free speach !
We need a lot more people of influence to have their courage ..
Hats off to the Chicks

It wasn’t a scandal. The chicks were right.
Harri politics effect us all.

I never stopped loving them. I hate politics. I was so confused
Thanks Harri nice reaction as always. I agree her vocals are really good and the band sounds great behind her. The message is clear and well does make this song more powerful if you know the back story. I really like it for both those reasons.
No matter what anyone believes about what they did, they got their best song out of it. This song kicks ass.
Not a country fan, but love this song and kudos to her for not bowing to bullies.

So well stated and I couldn’t agree more with your sentiments. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🌸
Complete b.s. in my opinion. I was raised a daughter of an army major. I know stuff about stuff.
Love these Ladies, thanks Catherine and Harri for this.
Thank you for your support...they are awesome
I always appreciate your support! Hope you had a nice holida
@catherinedorney6092 Yes Catherine, thanks.
I liked this band
All along but after this song, I love them
This song is killer ❤❤
They’re such a talented multi instrumental band. I’m not a huge country fan but this group found their way to my music collection.
Le lead singer was right and she had the right to say that : " She was ashame to be from the same state of President Bush, that is from Texas" ! They were treated very harsly!

What, this is a mystery - that we get lied to? Brace yourself:
We get lied to.
Kudos to anybody who stands up to the liars.
I understand why she said what she said and don’t disagree

Truth No 2 is one of my favs! Patty Griffin is an amazing songwriter. Not sure what Truth No 2 is about but neither are The Chicks LOL
They won the Grammy for this song.
The Chicks were about 10 years ahead of their time. Complete career cancellation cuz they spoke against the president when that’s so normal these days. So glad they came back
If you haven't checked out March, March, please do. Watch the video rather than a lyrics take.
Incredibly powerful.
From their 2006 album, "Taking the Long Way," in response to their backlash from 2003 after criticizing

Thank you for loving these ladies...
Actually they changed their name to The Chicks
That was a slap in the face to many southerners who are proud to be from Dixie.
Shows how much times have changed 1617 years later there would have been very little reaction to it

Well said ✌️
very childish at a time of great turmoil in our country
I totally call it a musical F U 😂😂 I mean they got freakin death threats
Only know one song by Dixie Chicks - Shower the People 🥰😇 They did in honor of James Taylor 😊😍
Thank you Catherine 🥰🤗😀 Beautifull song

👍💯❤🤗🥰
❤ your reaction. Thank you, from Alabama

They won 3 grammys for this song
Great band! Great song!

Love, the Chicks. Having an opinion about Bush Jr. And the war cost them a career, much more!!!
Thank you Harri. I can't stand politics but I can't stand a wrong not being heard. Everyone else has a voice so what makes anyone's so much more important? I believe in music. Thank you for indulging me. Love to all the besties!!

It’s ironic back in 2006 how much political strife it caused. While, here we are in 2024 and anything goes no matter who it offends.
I didn't see nothing wrong with what she said i think a lot of people felt this way at that time she said they were ashamed of George Bush being from Texas.

I love you Harri. I don't have much love for the Chicks.
Wokeness run amok.
😂😂😂 tell me, what is woke?
They were Ashamed of who they are and where they came From ! That was not right ! Dixie was Great !
Yeah. Too political.
They have a good sound, but I can’t stand when I’m being entertained and all the sudden the band goes liberal politics. Shut up and sing!
Used to like them before they got all woke, crazy and big-mouthed.
Would you call woke is what I call sensible. Some country singers have some since they’re not all Trump loving far right wing whackos. 🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂 oh for the love of Pete. Thanks for the "free speech" rightys that canceled them. Damn cancel culture!
