I'm not necessarily against expressing one's opinions by voting with one's wallet, but I don't understand how people think cancel culture is something of the left when the right cancels more aggressively and more on a grand scale than the left ever has. I bet I can come up with a list of people and companies canceled by the right off the top of my head than most anyone from the other side. In a recent interview they talked to Chicks about And Natalie about what she said she was very sorry. It probably wasn't the right place to view her opinion according to what I heard. Yes I write to her own opinion but not on a stage that she was performing on or they were. I think that's why so much was made about it and the country found through their disks away. There are multi talented people/ladies and no one should hold anything against them. I believe they will soar like they did once before because they are the very best❤
I think this is a great song and that it took a lot of "cajones" to do a song directly addressing the cancel culture they were a victim of after Natalie's comment that she was ashamed that George Bush was from Texas. Even though I am also not a fan of George W Bush (or the waste of lives and $ from the Iraq War which in the end, basically accomplished nothing other than being a catalyst for ISIS), it probably wasn't prudent to say a comment like that being country artists because a majority of country fans tend to lean towards the Right side of the political spectrum. I have to say that I have the opposite opinion of "new" country than you. Coming from a background of listening to a lot of classic rock and jazz fusion growing up (Chicago, Yes, Allman Brothers, Genesis, Weather Report, etc), it was bands like the Dixie Chicks, Rascal Flatts, Zac Brown Band, etc that made me become a fan of (some) country because of the rock/pop edge to the sound and the solid, interesting songwriting. I've never been much of a fan of the "traditional" country such as George Straight, Hank Williams and Garth Brooks because of the traditional "safe" songwriting with a lot of the songs having similar chord patterns (I, IV, V like traditional blues....which I'm also not a huge fan of) and stylistically sounding very similar.
I don't think they got so much cancelled, as BOYCOTTED. (Same as what happened to Budweiser) However, Death Threats? Absolutely NOOO Reason for that!! I really think as a Rule. Entertainers should stay out of Politics! If asked by reporters they should simply say no comment or in my opinion.
We can say it was a violation of freedom of speech that might be some truth. The other part no one wants to talk about is they did this at work! If you or I try to use our job as a platform to make opinion felt, chances are we would be fired! I think there is 2 sides to this. Not just as simple as free speech you were on the clock! Just saying I get why they did what they did and understood why the need for this song.
