    This is not a small car. If you compare the interior space of Karoq and Fabia, you will find just 4 cm difference inside (2cm on each side) wide-wise. The trick the manufacturers do is to make somewhat similar interior space, but inflate it on the outside, to look SUV-like. And to rise it up with 5 cm. And you think you have bigger car, and you pay way more than you have to.

    ... and in mid 2022 we still wait for a new Combi/Estate based on the latest Fabia. This would be an ideal car for so many of us, so come on Skoda, where is it? Latest rumours suggest it will be 2023 at the earliest. And why did VW discontinue the Polo Estate some years ago? No in-house competition, and no real competitors from other brands either :-(

    I dont really like the new headlights, I prefer the pre-facelift ones, but the car overall is a very good alternative to the Polo, which I find somewhat expensive for what it offers.
    Slap a TGI engine on the Fabia and you have an amazingly reliable and somewhat impervious alternative to the ups and downs of gas prices.
    I was looking forward to that review. Thank you, Thomas, keep up the good work!

    Really nice review of the facelift. Love the seats and the new LED-option.
    I've come to the same realisation about the Fabia as Thomas did in the video. It comes to a point where you could get a Octavia with decent options for the same price as a facelifted Fabia equipped with most of the options. But a nice car nonetheless.
    Thanks for (as always) providing a review packed with Info and great cinematic shots.

    Love this brand, on my third Fabia estate, 2006, 2013 and now 2018. The two first ones took me and my family safely 350 000 km without no problems at all. Bought bigger engines but gets less consumption. Now 3cl 1.0 L, turbo with 95 HP. Not a flashy car, but all you need. Keep the good work up.

    I just bought this car by Volkswagens My Way, in the Style version, one year old, 12500 km, and paid 17500 €. It drives perfectly and is very spacious. My previous car was a Jaguar S-type, 6 cylinders 3000 cc, that I sold after 8 years because it consumed 19 liter/100km. Taxes and insurance were out of hell. Finally I calculated that I paid over 14000 € over the cost of another normal car to drive the Jag S-type in these 8 years. So now I am very happy with this Skoda Fabia Combi, and I tell my friends I am getting rich driving it...

    The things makes me cry about the video is no timestamps. Grrrr. For this particular fabia I'm only interested in bootspace, rear seat and driving experience. And I have to toggle the video here and there trying to find the parts I'm interested in. Why not creating a comment with timestamps and pinning it to the top? So useful and easy to do.

    Such a beautiful car let down by 3 cylinder engines. Had a Fabia 2 Estate facelift, 1.6 TDI 75cp, 4 cylinders, all good but lacking options a bit, switched to Fabia 3 Estate 1.4 TDI 90cp, 3 cylinders, it was a nightmare, flywheel went bust at 42000km, engine has never worked well. Now I have a Fabia 2 Estate facelift, 1.6 TDI 90cp, Ambition trim level, with a lot of options and it's a good car.

    Another brilliant review Thomas. Thank you I always rely on your reviews as I change my car so often. The current Kodiaq is my 75th car!
    Could I ask that in your reviews you measure the boot length and width. Litres of space means very little to most people and it is never clear in the manufacturers blurb if the volume is measured to the ceiling or the bottom of the windows.
    The actual size would be much more useful for most people I think.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks colin! We usually show a trolley in the trunk to measure a practical size. Do you like that, or would you really prefer centimeter measurement

    • @colinlambert791
      @colinlambert791 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thomas,
      Centimeter would be best as it is difficult to judge the size of any luggage that may be used. I asked you to do that before the Kodiaq came out and you were kind enough to do it.. I have 2 large dogs, that is why boot size is so important for me. Or you could us 2 Greyhounds :-)
      Many thanks.
      Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your reviews and have recommended them to any of my friends looking to buy a new car!

      @@autogefuehl I had a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage, gifted as part of mums estate. That was noisy but it was the base model. If you have driven one, is it comparable or quieter? With the adaptive cruise control as standard now, a big selling point for me, I'm seriously looking at the Fabia, with cross traffic alert. Even with the Jeep I can't see past SUV's when reversing and scared I'll hit a car going past.

    Good review Thomas. Strange this car is not build on the MQB A0 platform! Like my Ibiza. But also strange the Ibiza don’t have the blind spot option and USB Ports in the back of the car. And No interior lights in the back. I have also a question to you and your team: a lot of cars get new headlight light systems these days. This new fabia also. I think it should be a plus for your channel to ad a review on the headlights also. Like you did on the new Audi a6. Especially When carmakers come with updated headlights like this fabia. I always very interested in it but almost no single car reviewer take attention to it. Really a pitty. The technique on led headlights is moving constantly.

      Autogefühl you can do a lot of tests with it... how far the beam is reaching, how wide. Whats the color temp, lumens. Is it blinding other traffic or not. How’s the highbeam working. And so on.

    • @crttft9203
      @crttft9203 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mark - possibly a laudable idea to ask manufacturers to specify their various headlight lumens etc. But LOL! Comparable scientific light measurements - like sound measurements - like emission tests will keep Thomas busy in a lab for a while! Also ask Thomas to do paint depth quality tests, and spring rate/rebound tests also during his two hours he gets to review a car...!

    After noting that 95% of the taxi’s in town are Skoda Octavia’s, I decided a Skoda would be my next car to replace my ancient oil leaking Picasso. I spent a lot of time bouncing back and forth between the Fabia and Octavia. I finally decided an Octavia estate or “combi” would be best for family needs. Mine is a mk 2 2012 1.6 diesel. I don’t like the mk 3 design at all. Gone is that excellent rich chrome grill surround that gave the car its identity. And I don’t get these sharp creases they’ve put in the panels. The mk 3 looks like it’s had a slight rear end shunt ? Now if I can just get the upgraded toys in my mk 2, perfect !

My personal opinion is that this car has good engineering side and very good specs, the interior is not bad at all, but its exterior shape is still resembling to older years, it doesn't look new to my eyes and got lot of lack of 3D lines, the designers should work more on its shape to reach with its design concept to a better result! :)))

    An excellent review Thomas. I have not seen much of your work, but as the owner of a Fabia Combi (Estate, Wagon, whatever!!! I wish we could agree on a term. Damn those German car manufacturers. At least we can get past ‘Shooting brake’ as that’s just dumb) sorry I got a bit off track, MY2018 in Australia, I am very interested in what is coming out. We get even less spec than the UK!! No choice of seat style or colour. Just a black/grey combo. I even had to import the Vario Floor for my boot space from the Czech Republic as Skoda Australia refused to import it!! (As well as the ice scraper!!). FYI Thomas. In the Fabia Combi you can lift the rear seat cushion up before folding down the seat back. With the Vario Floor in place this gives a perfectly flat floor that is about 1.7m long. At 1.8m tall I can sleep diagonally in it. This is similar to my old Saab 9-5 Estate (R.I.P.) but as a journalist recently said here in Australia, ‘As I can’t buy a Saab any more, the Skoda Superb Estate is what I would now buy’ Pretty high praise for what is considered a very, very small car brand here in Australia. Thanks for you review Thomas. I look forward to viewing more of your work

    • @indetailsydney2852
      @indetailsydney2852 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jboltnz I got onto a company called Skoda Parts. I think it was a bit of a shock someone wanting them to send the Vario Floor overs was as it soon became listed as pick up only. I used a Czech only site to get all the Skoda part numbered and just searched their site for what I wanted. A guy called Miloslav was very helpful. If I can find the website I’ll post it here. They also sent me the Euro panel with seat heater and Passenger Airbag light rather than just have all those blanks. I haven’t bothered with connecting the other stuff up but I think it looks a lot better. They also have a red leather DSG gearknob and handbrake lever I’ve had installed, the previously mentioned ice scraper and a wooden coat valet for the back of the seat that connects to the steel headrest posts. I wish it had come with a leather and electric seat option as its the best small car I’ve owned.

    Hello Thomas, I've driven a lot of different new cars in this segment and never was really happy with the clutch feeling when start rolling when it was a 3 cyl. What do you think?

    Another great review ! Wish we had Skoda here in the states. It would be nice competition for the market but it would probably be kind of redundant because of what VW ad Audi are here. I’m thinking of buying a 2018 Golf GTI SE, that’s our middle trim here. S,SE and Autobahn. A lot of people seem to like going the middle trim route. They come well equipped. They start at around $26,000 and top off at $35,000 for the Autobahn. I’ll be getting the infamous Clark Plaid seats and Dark Iron Blue Metallic paint on the outside. 6-spd DSG. Leather is too hot for here in Florida. During the sommer you could virtually fry. That’s why I want the cloth. What do you think ? Am I choosing right ? Love the reviews ! Keep up the great work.

    Now you've had some time to think over it, in you opinion has the particle filter improved fuel economy and has is affected the performance at all?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thing is that they modified the Turbo and also optimized the injection, and it seems to be that those changes actually have more positive effect on consumption that the particle filter would have a negative one. As I have shown, consumption has even dropped 1 to 1,5 l / 100 km

      @thomaselwood12 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Autogefühl that is brilliant, especially when it retains the performance. Quite a punchy little engine.

    We only get the 70TSI. Is it still worth considering. My car suffers from turbo lag due to the high altitude. Its a 3ltr diesel and has about the same power from start as my mums 1.2 petrol till about 40kph unless you put your foot down.

    Is this the SE trim?
    Is see to the left of the steering wheel there is a P button (seen at 8:40),is this a parking assist feature?
    What other driving assists does the car have?
    Can it drive itself in traffic jams.. Stopping and starting?
    Just ordered a new SE trim with a few optional upgrades

    I had no idea there was a Clio Estate. It’s not sold in the U.K. sadly. And Seat also stopped doing the Ibiza ST. That’s unfortunate as well.
    I’ve driven all day long in my Renault Zoe on road trips. I’m 1m 84 and I didn’t have any discomfort Thomas. But I also think the Zoe is more upright in seating than other small hatches. Do you think there would be a significant difference? I know you haven’t driven one but just based on what you know.

    I had the "very oldschool" Fabia with me for 10 years. I loved it, but it's engine required some expensive work on it. The next generation were plain ugly. I am glad that after Skoda reverte to the old design with some facelift to fit in with the other Skoda variants. This LED Headlight facelift were a must in 2018, I think.

    I am a proud owner of a Skoda Superb 2011... but I must say that lately the Skoda cars are no more like they were a few years ago, they become more and more boring and while I can not exactly describe the feeling, they seem to not be a valid choice anymore, at least for me, which is sad, but this is the way it is. The exteriors are more or less fine but the interiors.. are too fad and not attractive. And this is the main reason why I will not go for the actual Superb version as a replacement of my actual car.
