Vostok is actually a russian name for the East. The space rocket was named after that. The actual watch first russians cosmonauts (russian and slavic name for astronauts) wore was Sturmanskie from the Poljot factory. Anyway, I believe Vostok watches from Čistopol factory were also in space, at least I know about the famous Amphibia model.
I own two pieces from the original russian factory, one Komandirskie I order actually from Ukraine shortly prior to russian invasion (it arrived one month after it) and Amfibia, which is the truly interesting engineering piece.
I fully understand the concerns with wearing russian watches today, espacially Komandirskie with russian military symbols (Amfibia has usually no military symbols, mine is with the Scuba-dude). On the other hand, its just watch, has nothing to do with war.

I've had a few Vostok watches through the years, very dependable but you definitely get what you pay for.

I've got 2 Vostok's and they are great tool watches. Question...If you live in the USA, where did you obtain your watch from as i thought Russia is not accepting payment at this time ? Thanks

who would buy a Russian watch these days? not only is the watch ugly, and looks like a toy, the people who make it are war criminals. Utter garbage what did you pay $30. I don't wear Invicta, but I'd rather wear one then any of these. Embarrassing

How it looks is in the eye of the beholder. You can review the quality and craftsmanship of the watch and the Vostok watch company. I do not categorize all Russia people as criminals and the statement you made is distasteful. TH-cam guidelines let's keep the conversation civil and with respect to all people Russia and non Russia people.

I've got both the komandirsky and amphibia classic watches and I'm amazed at both how good and bad they are at the same time! they are both essentially living museum pieces, pretty much unchanged in how they are made in over 60 years. tbh I wear the komandirskie more often as it is the better all rounder - easily waterproof enough for swimming and light diving, and it hugs the wrist far better than the amphibia, which I think is too small for its case thickness and the bezel/lume make it impractical for diving the depths the case has been built to go to (and more than exceeds!)

Thank you for the information. Thank you for watching the video. I look to add another Vostok to my collection and I will look at the amphibia in the future. 👍

@@jameschangeslives The way it is constructed, so the gasket gets tighter the deeper it goes is a gamechanger - its one of the few dive watches that grossly underestimates its water resistance, designed for 200m but every pressure test I've seen far exceeds 600m, made at a time when only about 2 other high end swiss companies were making watches of that capability...........then they put the crappiest bezel you can think of on it, and lume that lasts for 5 minutes at best!

To be fair, the same could be said of ANY mechanical watch. I actually got rid of all my Omegas (I got rid of my 2 Rolexes years ago) and replaced them with quartz, except for 2 mechanicals: a Seiko turtle, because its movement is historic and, like the AK47, bomb-proof, and my Ball Marvelite daily wearer. My other 2 are a Seiko "Arnie" solar diver, and a Grand Seiko high accuracy quartz, good for coming under 10 seconds A YEAR. No Rolex or Omega is going to come close to that, nor are they going to be as low key and good taste as my Ball.

@@varanid9 if accuracy is everything, my £35 casio wave ceptor loses a fraction of a second every century. But truth be told, it isn't even my most worn casio. The look of a watch is everything to me and as long as it is accurate to a few seconds a day, that's totally fine.
