This is the type of deck that should not play upstart goblin. Its played in dragons cuz if u draw future fusion u win. And they can easily put multiple big dragons on the field(redmd and blue eyes) to otk thru the 1000 LP that upstart goblin bestows upon the opponent.

When patrick hoban popularized upstart goblin, everybody started putting upstart in every deck. But it only belongs in decks that have a specific card they want to draw and they win if they draw it(future fusion/gateway of the six/black whirlwind/royal tribute)
Or they are playing an FTK deck(exodia or mill deck out the opponent like gishki) so the opponent’s life points don’t matter
Or they are playing a handloop deck(wind ups) so it doesnt matter that u give the opponent 1000 LP, they have 0 cards in hand and u win if your handloop combo is more consistent.
Or they are playing a boss monster negate.dek(herald of perfection or Stardust Assault mode) where they desperately need to open their combo to establish their omni negate boss monster turn 1, and it doesnt matter if the opponent gains 1000 LP.

@@shadowdraqon2479 that's just not true tbh. in this particular deck it's a bit of nonsense, since you run merchant, but something like blackwings, diva hero, and frogs profits a lot from the added consistency. the importance in life points is honestly overstated generally, unless you run something like diva hero or zombies, where you sometimes really rely on a big push to finish a game and would struggle if they have 9-11k. or something like amaryllis, where you wanna put them on a timer with the 800 burns before they overwhelm you.
