accelerator was probably jammed
Sometimes when the driver doesn't realise the car is in reverse or they reverse faster than they expected, the car jolting backwards causes their foot to press the accelerator harder which causes the car to reverse faster which causes them to accelerate even harder.
People often panic and keep the accelerator flat, which is why so many soccer mums in car parks run over other cars backwards with their SUVs. Looks like the same thing happened at 8:28.

This was on the news - drunk driver. Luckily nobody else was hurt.
Might have been a new driver, forgot they were in reverse and not drive, so floored it.Car takes off in reverse the person panics and cannot stop accelerating even after it crashes with front wheels still spinning.Also like jc says accelerator or throttle may have jammed.All they had to do was hit the brake asp I wonder how these people got a licence did they win it in a raffle.Most of these accidents on this video happen due to drivers losing concentration maybe on mobile,excessive speed and falling asleep when driving.I never speed into roundabouts, than give way to cars on my right until road is clear.If you have a head on crash with a truck that may be the end for you with the truck hardly damaged.

I just replied to another post, but the short answer in some cases it's a cash payment. Not kidding sadly.
I think there is a case to be made for:
a) 10 yearly retesting for everyone on with a driving instructor AND
b) all foreign license holders applying for permanent licenses must do a driving instructor test.
Refresher courses once a decade, and making sure foreign testing is at least compatible with our testing I don't think is an extreme hindrance.
But they'll still be their best behaviour for their licence test. You can't test for latent stupidity.
Because stupid people generate revenue, they don't care about safety or half these fucking morons would not have licenses.Still the sheeple buy the bullshit revenue raising as being about "road safety"....

Dennis Sphatt the smart people (so far only my dad despite it not being his fault) pull over when safe and get each others details and sort out insurance. I'm assuming 90% of these people didn't.
Yes, Dennis, that's what most people do. Drivers are legally obligated to swap details after an accident (law of New South wales, anyway).
