There are a few TH-cam channels which go through this book but this is the only one which gives proper commentary and explanation. Thank you so much for a wonderful series.
This is a really, really good series
A theme in a lot of the games we have reviewed so far is to avoid pushing king pawns due to the weaknesses it creates. However, quite often Stockfish indicates a move like h6 or h3 is the best move to avoid knights/bishops coming to g5 or g4. How can we know when the benefit of pushing h6/h3 is worth the cost of the weakness it creates?
I hear that pushing the h pawn generally doesn't create as much weaknesses as pushing g or f pawns
Edit : (because they opens diagonals, pushing the h pawn doesn't)
This is my favourite series on TH-cam! I look forward to it every Friday. Thank you Nelson!
I thought of rook takes bishop first, but then couldn't find a good follow up, so abandoned it. Interesting to learn that you don't necessarily need a follow up in this situation because of the dark square weakness it creates long-term.
I had the exactly the same thought!
11:16
"Rooks are not as good as bishops", probably meant it the other way.
Rooks work only in end game but in the middle game bishop is more valuable
this series is so good. always excited to see that there is a new video out!!
Sir, I've been following you for so many days, and I think your teaching style and game analysis techniques are really good. You make the chess UNDERSTANDABLE. Thank you. Keep bringing the good stuffs...
I have watched several of your videos and may buy the Chernev book. I had Reuben Fine's book, in paperback, about fifty years ago, but I think I learned more from watching your videos that related to it than from owning the actual volume. Some of us only really start to learn when all the other possibilities have been exhausted!
Nicely done!
Good morning Nelson. Hope you have a great day 😊
This is my favorite chess channel
iam very grateful for your videos because they helped me play chess with knowledge thank you so much nelson
Great tips
By far my favorite series right now! I would recommend using the link provided in the description to purchase the book. I went and found it on my own and my edition has super weird notations like Kt to KB3 instead of calling it c3. If you get the linked book then you should have the correct edition with the modern notations. 💪🏼🤓
Thank you for your videos
I bought this book based on your recommendation. It'd great! Thanks for the content!
Great video ❤
Thanks for your content ! I think it's very instructive and the explanations are unique. Also I want to ask you if it is possible for you to do a video on what to play against 1.Nf3 please because I'm a bit struggling on this move.
it's another good evening when Nelson uploads Logical chess series!
@11:02 more like in any viewers out there have been GothamChess, white sacrifice THE ROOK!
Nice series. Do i understand correctly: when you have finished the book you will continue Puzzle Island?
Try to continue this series It’s so fun
Thanks!
Appreciate it!!
Great video. It doesn’t help me yet as I’m only 930 but hopefully in a near future. 🙂 Got a question: at what ranking players start thinking that way? Thanks.
Brilliant
Nelson really is Chess vibes!
Great! I was waiting for a good moment to pay my question, but you already answered it in this episode:
"What rook to choose from?"
Are there any more things to consider? Maybe in general, seperate from this game?
Hey Nelson, great series! I have one question: Black played g6 before castling. Why can't black then try to castle queenside, knowing that castling kingside could be vulnerable to a dark square attack? For example, at 10:30, instead of 0-0, why not Be6, escaping the pin while also preparing to move the queen and castle long?
Had the same question
Nice game Nelson
Remember the last question, thanks for answering it.
I had the same thinking as the others.
By the way, I knew all the brilliant moves including Rxe7 without a book.
Hi Nelson. What is your viewpoint if at 10:33 the black had moved it's knight to G8? It would give additional support to the pinned bishop and also guard the weakened dark squares f6 & g6.
Hello,
Thank you very much for the great explanations, but I have a question:
In the last few episodes you said that you should attack immediately when your pieces are better developed. But here you say (tip 5): Wait with your attack until all your pieces are ready and developed. How can I tell whether I should wait or attack?
Nelson, FWIW, I have an older version of the book, and the page numbers don't line up. In mine, each new game starts immediately after the previous game ends, not on a new page. That said, I have no problem telling where you are, just wish my version had new pages for new games.
I really like tip 7, long term weaknesses are so cool. Slowly obliterating your opponent whilst down material.
16:14 black can still technically prevent the checkmate by … Qxd4 Qxd4 f6. It’s still a lost game though.
14:22 What about Nfe4 using the same idea? Is it the "same" idea?
So, openings like the King's Indian are related to Tip NO.7 where the Bishop is moved to g7 to cover f6 & h6?
The main reason i see that weakening king side was a bad move was because most of those pawns are on light squares and white only has a dark square bishop.
This means it's inviting the bishop to take away safe squares from the king if they castle that side, which is likely given their darksquare bishop and queen have yet to develop.
8:00 A question: Can white castle long here?
13:30 can you play Nh5 after Bf5.
At 16:19 what happens if black plays knight take knight followed by a fork on white's king and queen on the next move?
Why did white castle kingside instead of queenside?
10:21 what if Ng1? It might be ugly but the g5 bishop no longer has good squares and black can play Be6 for example, if white's DSB is traded then g6 is fine I guess?
What if after g6 black try to develop queen and bishop and castles queen side
I was actually thinking about the 'Rook takes e7' exchange sacrifice.
Me too.😎
I love these videos
At 11min you said/posted a problem
Take a break then give the answer
Is't possible to have a clue in between it?
at 3:02 I think knight c3 to e2 is better in my opinion as you can protect the d4 pawn with pawn c3 in future
white can also rotate that knight around to g3 to get more attackers. why is this plan not that good
7:09 Isnt Bh6 from white also a powerful option rather than castling? Indeed castling is a good move but what about Bh6? Thank you Nelson
Bh6 isnt really threatening anything. It also give black time to castle queenside in the long run. As you could see from what was played in the game. Keeping the B on g5 puts a lot of pressure on the knight. (Castling kingside isn't even that good, but because there is so much power behind white's attack. They kinda have to.
@@lucienhiemsta4805yeah but its hard for balck to ve able to castle queenside because everytime black's light squared B moves, b7 gets snatched with Qb5+, and if bd7 from black preventing Qb5+, then black's queen cant be developed.
@@twiduha First of all, you dont have to develop the bishop to d7 in order to stop Qb5+. You can also play c3, which gives more room for the black queen to develop and allows the Bishop on d6 a home. Second of all, another possibility is playing Ng5, attacking the bishop on h6, so the bishop has to drop back (notice that Bg7 falls short, because of Rg8 and the bishop is trapped (ofc going to e4 isn't any good).
Castling short for white, keeps more of the pressure in short.
What about Q e3 instead of Qf4
I had the same thinking.
I wish he sees my comment too.
Let's goooo🎉🎉🎉
I hope you're doing an analysis of what they're calling the "banned gambit". I'd like to see a video on why so many grandmasters have fallen to it in spite Stockfish computing that it's an absolutely horrible opening.
17:54 What if Qxf6, Nxf6+, Kg7? Do white have enough pieces to checkmate?
Queen vs rook advantage
After Rook e1,why black wouldnt play bishop e6
You're always teaching us as Chess TH-camr:
I wanna ask you about something:
13:41 What about Qxf5? Isn't Qg3 maybe slow?
It sets a discovered check and takes advantage of the open g file
I like this series qn how to win a won game like when Ur opponent makes any mistake and we can take the advantage in my games also m up some material or my position is good but I can't convert
in Ep.6
@16:33 when black takes the knight with the King, isn't black up w/ 2 rooks and a bishop vs a queen and a rook?
yes that is also not clear to me. Why a queen for white is better than a rook + bishop for black?
Nelsi why we sac the rook a rook the most powerful pieces
What if Black sees the danger and decides to cut their losses and sacrifices the Queen for the Bishop and says I at least got a Rook for the Queen and the attack on the dark squares had become weaker?
Just play normal chess bro you are a queen up
So pawn f3 is less super awkward and bad than ph3??? Not to mention h3 STILL leaves the knight's placement options open. Sorry, does not compute
15:40 maybe black has a Nxe4 Bxe7 Nd2 Bf6+ and lose either way
Hi nelson
How does fianchetto your bishop relate to this, because you also move your g-pawn.
The fianchetto'd bishop takes care of the weaknesses that the pawn push created, it's an excellent defending piece.
10:30 after Kf8, will Rxf7 be a good move
Yes but black can play qxe7 and not lose the pawn but it's still a lost position
10:00 tip 6 why black not put white bishop on E6 block the rook then move u queen nxt move then castle the other side sure that been better would got but his rook in the game and his white bishop was doing nothing the other way
nelson after Bd6 g3 Bg4 then White can play Bf4
I wanna ask a funny question:
21:44 Isn't En Passant for Black bad? Because, after En Passant they will be able to play Bf4 double attacking our Queen and skewering our Queen to the Bishop. We should move our Queen and then lose our Bishop without any compensation.
Yes ur right
I know why
Couldn't black sacrifice his queen at 17:09 in the video.wouldnt that stop the checkmate threat even though he's down in material
If black gives up its queen for a white minor piece, then there is still a white queen and a white minor piece which are both ready to take advantage of the dark square weaknesses on black’s kingside, and the checkmate threat cannot be stopped.
He sacrificed THE ROOK!
You said it backwards you ment bishops are not as good as rooks
I like it
R A T I N G S
C L I M B
😮😊
with respect and love ❤️ 😊
Just tell me why ok
Ok never mind
i stopped playing chess, its either boring when I win or aggravating when playing against a cheater
Could you do things for more advanced players?
Beyond 1200 you don’t see people moving the pawns in front of the king anymore
Bro no offense, but we 1200-1500 rated players are complete noobs
@@flotto7045 I’m sorry but if you’re 1500 and still making these basic mistakes are in this video then I’ve no idea how you got there
