It’s not massively relevant to chess, but in the book the author commented on how Philidor says in Chess Analysed in 1791 that- and then goes on to talk about how Philidor’s spelling wasn’t right. He was saying this because he would write using a medial s. For those interested, a medial s is a very old version of the lower case s. S as we now know it used to be its own capital form, much like how many other capital letters are completely different to their lower case forms today. But eventually the rules started changing around lower case s, and it started being used in the middle and end of words. Eventually with the advent of the printing press, it became more efficient to have one key for s instead of two. And soon after, the medial s died. There was nothing wrong with Philidor’s spelling, he was just using an antiquated form of speech which seems odd today. It was an interesting foot note!

7:30 white only lost a knight, if white finds Ne5 counter attack on the queen.
9:35 Qh4 keep an eye on that h7 pawn and prepare to play bishop g5 and trade the knight off. even if black plays h6, just sac the dark square bishop and bring the knight to g4
13:30 white don't want black to trade the bishop for the knight right? because after exd5, Qh6. nvm I can't find what going on
15:40 sac the queen and play Bh7#
16:10 dxc4 is the best move. apparently black can sac their queen and it is still +2.3 for white but its the best move
    19:50 Qh6?

    Hi Nelson!
First things first, I've got to say your channel is brilliant. I find it to be the most instructive among the many that are there. Very clear and spot on.
I'm actually following the book Logical Chess, and I believe it's a great great book. I'm learning so much from it. Still, it's clear to me how a master like you is able to really get the most out of a book like this. I mean, I get everything but on a surface level, I guess. It's so powerful to follow the book, and at the same time follow you as you go through it.
I was wondering if you could add the number of the game you're covering in the title of the video, so it'd be easier for who is reading the book to catch up.
Thanks for your great help I'm learning so much.
What a game this was, by the way!

(@22:52) Hi Nelson. Instead of 1 Re6!! What about 1 Re3 instead? Now white is threatening 2 Rh3 followed by a mate on h8, and if 1 … dxe3, 2 fxe3, white now has a half-open f-file and his other rook can come into the game at f1, threatening to exchange the powerful knight defender for the rook.

    • @bc_7644
      @bc_7644 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

After your line the bishop on d3 hangs and white wont be able to sack the rook without getting mated on the back rank after Qxe3+ (after Rf1), so white is completely lost unless stockfish finds a defensive brilliancy for white.

This game is a great example of why Black has to be *extremely* careful when castling King-side in the French defense. The e-pawn blocks the Bishop away from the King side...just in general, it is much more difficult for Black to bring defenders than for White to bring attackers. So giving up a valuable defender *and* the initiative basically just handed White a winning advantage.
I know this because I've lost in exactly that fashion many times.

Most likely after white castled black should have played c5 to challenge the center. If white ever captures the black knight, recapture with the bishop to be ready to play g6 without having to worry about swiss cheese dark squares around the black king.

  • @sumadharipalli5298

At 7:23 You forgot to mention that White does not lose the whole queen but rather a piece after Ne5 Rxb7 (Or she runs away to f3.) Nxd7 Nxd7 which wins for black. Also, at 10:20 instead of b6, what is wrong with Qd5 to try to trade queens by Qh5? Also, at 28:06 White loses the a2 pawn as well in this position. And from our view, losing two pawns like this is not OK as White without any ways to get them back. Also, Black can still play f5 and f4 and can still do the same plan of launching the attack which means that Black is better, right?

  • @-AxisA-
    @-AxisA- หลายเดือนก่อน

At 9:09 would h6 be a good move or just create an unnecessary weakness on h7, that white can exploit with some tactic my novice eyes don't see? My reasoning behing the move is of course for encouraging white to take the knight on f6, so on the next move you can recpature with your less active knight like you already said and it prevents any piece from coming to the pretty crucial g5 square. No pins from the bishop or neither of the knights can jump there.

Then white takes blacks g pawn with the white bishop, blacks king is extreamely exposed... will that also be a good move or not as good...? And with that knight sacrifice you can use your rook on the 6th rank to apply more pressure too...?the rook can also be sacrificed and take the knight of black, that will be too many pieces to deal with for black..?

This is ELO 2000+ stuff, rather difficult.
    For chess maniacs only. :D:D:D

At 7:23 You forgot to mention that White does not lose the whole queen but rather a piece after Ne5 Rxb7 (Or she runs away to f3.) Nxd7 Nxd7 which wins for black. Also, at 10:24 instead of b6, what is wrong with Qd5 to try to trade queens by Qh5? Also, at 28:06 White loses the a2 pawn as well in this position. And from our view, losing two pawns like this is not OK as White without any ways to get them back. Also, Black can still play f5 and f4 and can still do the same plan of launching the attack which means that Black is better, right?

19:34 Why moving a knight is an only move? What about Kg7 with possibility to run to F6 later?

Hi, by 19:50 why not knight to e6 threatining the rook and queen... so black takes with their pawn.

    Thanks for bringing those informations.🙂
In 7:08 , can't White just attack the Queen with Ne5 an be in a completely nice position?☝🏻
