Great review and thx for the honest critique. I would really like to have an ETO game for 2 to 3 players that is simple enought o be played in 4-5 hours, but still have that ‘epic’ feel. GMT is usually very good about upgrading/ refining rulesets. Hopefully the rules issue(s) get acknowledgment and revision. Hopefully Downfall: CotTR will be a more complete package.
Hello Mr Watcher! I’m hoping the publisher puts a new edition of the rules out, as everything else about the game is nice. With some reading between the lines and such, I was able to play it, and I liked it. BUT I review the game I have in front of me. In the meantime Axis and Allies might be a good bet to meet your criteria. I also came across “War Room” by Nightingale just yesterday. A bit pricey, but you might look it up on TH-cam and see what you think. Anyway…, thanks for watching and commenting. - Paul
Hello Przemek! You may be right about the lack of depth, but at the same time my copy of “The War” from Compass game is still sitting in shrink. There’s times when I like something lighter. But unless and until we get a rules update, this one sits on the shelf. - Paul
@@theoakenknight1748 Yeah, I know thr feeling with WiF and Absolute Victory still sitting on the shelf, unpunched. I'll challenge myself to try them both next year😉
I have only played the WW1 game, Downfall of Empires. It has a terrible rulebook (when combinded with counters/player-aids online info etc). But the gameplay is nice and fluid. This seems to be kind of the same, looking good being fun but ...not final/100%rules in English somehow. I am very interested in this a a three sided WW2 strategic game playable in an evening.
Hello Mr Margo! I’m not surprised that the rules of the 2 games are in a similar state. I hope they issue a 2nd edition of rules PDF, but I have not heard anything. I may sell both just to clear my shelf space, which is always at a premium. Too bad, because I had hopes for these two. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Most excellent!! - Paul
In the WW1 game one can do moving/manouvre several times but other actions once AND reinforcements have to be the first action if used at all. There are technologies that allow for "one time" exxtra move/attack actions. Like once per year for offense only. I think one has more actions per turn in WW2. The examples of play clear up several question marks in the WW1 game. It is a good game but it is only 95% complete @@theoakenknight1748

Thanks for an overview, I have it on my wish list but to be honest it's pretty low down the list - a bit too much of a beginner game for me.
