It was the beginning of many atrocities against the Indian nations and not to be forgotten. I prefer to honor the earliest days of peace, and strive for a community that acknowledges the entirety of our past, but also moves forward to create a better future for all of us. Also, you had it right about the geisha kit I'm stitching. It's called Queen of Silk by Design Works and I'm obsessed with her.
Weird smells happen even with sealed kits! I got two plastic canvas kits off of Ebay that had clearly never been opened, and they both smelled as if they were entirely made of mold--not, like, great. I put the yarn in a freezer bag with a bar of Irish Spring for a few days, then left them in a box to air out: worked a treat! The plastic canvas was a lost cause, beyond the reach of all the Irish Spring in the world, but that was easily replaced. A good first step could be simply putting the linen and threads outside on a sunny, dry day and seeing if fresh air and sunshine can't work a little magic, or simply skip the Irish Spring and go straight to a bath (assuming neither the floss nor the linen will run, of course). Now that I'm thinking about it, I've got a couple of old Erica Wilson kits from the 1970s that I have yet to open, and I'm feeling a little apprehensive about what will greet me when I do: maybe it's time to stock up on Irish Spring at the Dollar Tree (by far the best deal, by the way)?
I live in SC. Needler became a pizza place. I was told that the owners were ready to retire and couldn’t find a buyer who they trusted with the business. Same with Stitch N Frame in Rock Hill. Such a shame! You're right about Shepherd's Bush. I'm hearing impaired and wear a cochlear implant so I detest phone calls and avoid them. They need to offer emails or texting. 😂 I stitched a few TWs in the 90s when my boys were little so I'm very partial to them. Your work is beautiful! Can't wait to see Storyteller finished. I'm with you on the quilts. They are used and well loved in my home. Yay for your Fairy Moon! I have her head stitched and just started on her dress....so super far lol. I want to love beading but I am beading my first big Mira and it's Enchanted Mermaid. She's a lot! I think I may enjoy more limited beading, as with Nora's. Any tips for getting in a beading groove? Happy stitching!
@honeybunny I think for me the key with beading is to actually slow down and enjoy how meticulous it is. There’s a soothing quality to the slowness for me. It does feel never ending sometimes tho 😂
