We know a lot about human behavior. We eat for energy to keep us moving. We breathe to bring more oxygen into our blood and to expel carbon dioxide. We blink to keep our eyes moist and sweep away dust particles. We yell to get the attention of someone or a group. We cough to clear our throats and airways of germs, mucus and dust. We shiver to warm up and we sweat to cool down. We understand a lot about why humans do the things they do, but one behavior that isn't so easy to pin down is laughter. Why do we laugh? What purpose does it serve, and why do we seek it through friendship and humor?

I think laughter is one of those things that we evolved to have ingrained within our genes and society because it has so many benefits. It's verbal/nonlinguistic communication that anyone can hear. One of my favorite uses of nonverbal communication was in the movie NOPE where scenes with the alien swallowing people were intercut with people screaming. The use of this screaming was equal parts screams of terror and screams of joy from things like a rollercoaster. Laughter can be used in certain contexts as it can make the crazed serial killer more creepy or create tension in a room when the one of the characters knows the other is lying knows but the other is just laughing because its what the situation is required. Laughter can be even more tragic like in Joker as he has a condition that forces him to laugh painfully.

One observation I had: although we often laugh at things other than formal jokes in conversation, we’re still laughing at SOMETHING funny - not all laughter in conversation is just that polite “getting along” chuckle. My husband and certain friends have made me straight up GUFFAW just because the conversation took a funny turn or there was funny wordplay between us.

Interesting topic! I have not reflected on the complexity of laughter.
Antoher interesting topic would be why do we feel the need to share information about us with others, or why do we seek to be noticed.
    Amazing job as always Aperture!
    Have a nice day.

    • @kepspark3362
      @kepspark3362 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Good to know that you reflect on such things!
Any more interesting topics you ever wondered about?
I don't think everyone seek to be noticed. Think about this. Those who seek to be noticed, those are the 1s we end up noticing because they are here trying in the spotlight, the rest are happy alone most of the time, they don't enter the spotlight in the 1st place to be noticed so most of us prolly only get exposed to 1 kind of humans.
About sharing the information, I think it is a socially learned habit that develops due to association with others who do it, which most of the humans do, I think, haven't surveyed. Sharing information about us feels great since we actively remember it as we are sharing it. It feels good that we're doing something, we're engaging in some activity.
Besides, I don't think there are many things they know to talk about, we enjoy talking to others because of constant stimulation due to problem solving. After we talk, then they talk, then it's sort of a problem that we solve by replying. It's prompt problem solving.
Sharing information/talking loudly/writing about it also brings clarity to 1self, as I'm doing now by thinking over this topic as I also am typing, editing.

You may be totally right and maybe we are only exposed to one kind of humnas, that thought kinda blew my mind!
Nice point of view on the sharing things topic. I have also thought that it could be an evolutionary trait because I think that those who shared information were more prone to survive that thos who didn't, due to the fact that
Nice to hear about your perspectives, thnak for sharing and replying! 🙂

Fate has been kind to me and gifted the 12 notes of music in such a way that I'm always happier when i listen to music than the days i merely don't. But that's just me of course.

There are various types of laughter. Those that arise from a joke that we were unaware of are the result of a process that involves the brain's ability to make predictions. The brain is constantly projecting multiple potential future states, assigning them a probability of occurrence. A joke that makes us laugh out loud is characterized by generating a reality not contemplated in the expectations that the brain unconsciously generates at all times. The aforementioned inability to project is "read" by our brain, initially, as a gigantic failure. Hundredths of seconds later, our neocortex is informed of what happened, outlining the danger that a moment before "visualized" the Unconscious. The tension generated by the supposed failure in the prediction is evacuated through laughter.
Every good joke is characterized by a totally unexpected ending.

  • @TheSkystrider
    @TheSkystrider ปีที่แล้ว +13

Laughter and humor definitely lightens the mood. But why? I guess biologically we need laughter and possibly it's because it has been such an important part of comradery and being kept "in" the group that allowed for group survival. Definitely see the need to be included in everyone, esp kids growing up. Kids will follow along what's cool to satisfy the desperate need to be included. I got excluded a lot so I learned to appreciate much more tangible values like equal rights as one example (such tangible values are easily discarded or pushed down in order to fit in). I guess laughter must have come before language. We could fit in by laughing long before we could communicate with words.

7:01 I had this concept recently demonstrated to me by a bad AI.
It told me the following joke “ a woman was standing at the pier of a small lake, then she fell in the water, and drowned.”
I asked the AI why it thinks this is funny, it explained that usually people who fall into a lake don’t drown, therefore, it was unexpected and funny….

The authentic wisdom of Kabbalah explains laughter (and crying btw) quite easily. If you understand that reality is made of two opposite forces, then laughter is a kind of "short circuit" that helps you bridge two opposites that shouldn't (or wouldn't) normally go together. To put it in more relatable terms, Humor removes from us all the puffed up clothing we put on. It is as if it undresses us from all the poses and masks, making us all equal and simple. When we laugh together about weaknesses that are in all of us alike, we immediately create a softer relationship between us.
There is no stronger means than humor to eliminate boundaries, barriers, and distances. The great challenge of our time, the most serious one, is to develop humor to bring people closer to each other, to make us more connected.

One of the things Mike (the MC) struggles to understand about humans is laughter and the reason why we laugh, in fact , he is actually frightened by it when he first hears it. You could even say that Mike doesn't truly become human until he learns how to laugh. I won't give his interpretation of laughter to avoid spoilers.

There were three man lost in a forest ( The Zulu man, The Pedi man and The venda man)
They then got caught by cannibals, the men asked over again to be let free.
The king of the cannibals gave them a test and if they passed they will be set free...
The first trial was to look for ten fruits of the same kind in the forest.
They all rushed out, then the Zulu man came back with grapes...he was then ordered to swallow all the grapes without making any expression on the face or he will be killed..
He swallowed the first 4grapes and on the fith one he choked, as he was so confident... Then he got killed...
The pedi man came with grapes also he was ordered to do the same... But on the ninth one he laughed 😂... Then he got killed
They both went to heaven... Then the Zulu man asked the Pedi man "Why did u laugh, you could have got away with the trial ? "
The Pedi man answered "I couldn't help it when i saw the venda man coming with watermelons 🍉

I got Benito's recommendations in December 2021 and started following her lead and made $23,450 in a week. Lost my job in January 2022 and right now I'm back on top again and ready to go with her guidance.

Benito's concept is key in beating all odds to excel in this form of online commodity. Her management team is quite impressive so far! With $4k I made a profit of over 28,863 dollar

Crypto Trading remains a priority, I'm proudly a huge beneficiary of Benito Revilla services. About a month ago sold most of my stocks at a lost and took what I have and reinvested and those stocks were green today. I gained over $30k.

If you really really think about it almost all humor hence laughing comes from different levels of tragedy in one form or another.

@@Alpacher Ik he use to get a lot of views before but why has it reduced? Do you think it's intentional because people at TH-cam don't like some of things he's posting/censoring him or is it just bad algorithm luck?

@@DarkMatterThaFirst Yeah bro, cant say anything about the censorship part, but the algorithm def doesn't like him. All his videos are of such a high quality and it's such a shame that he's not getting the recognition that he deserves 😔
