$1,799.00 for a helmet that only hits DOT seems pretty absurd no matter what bells and whistles it comes with

Calling it bells and whistles is a grossly oversimplifying it. The technology is hugely impressive. I agree, it would be nice to have a higher safety rating but I do think your statement is grossly negligent of the ingenuity here.

    • @jairusstrunk94

@@samesparza2149 VR systems cost less. There's not really any "Ingenuity" here. My oculus has 6 cameras, motion tracking, bluetooth, wifi, and can play video games.... For $300. all in a very tiny package. SO no. I'm not overly impressed with a much larger helmet, for 4 times the cost with 1 quarter the functionality.

I completely agree with you. That price point is ridiculous for only being DOT. I'll take safety over fancy any day. I wouldn't buy it even if the cost was more reasonable. You can slap a DOT sticker an just about anything.

Looks cool but things I want to know, from a full review:
    1. Is there a Pinlock system
    2. Is there a front facing camera for recording as well, if so details, including image stabilising
    3. How good is the sound and how loud.
    4. You said the M3 was too big, what size do you usually take to get an idea of sizing
    5. Do any of the camera record? If so what quality?
Just initial thoughts, but liked the vid, good job.

I had ordered one on April 1st. I just sent them a note for an update as when ten weeks rolled around they came back stating late July. They still have not updated their website to reflect the delay. The visor is photo chromatic per the website.
I did request a change to silver which was not an option when I ordered. Thumbs up on the unboxing.
By the way I also supporter the ICR helmet so yes I’ve endorsed technology. I suspect that the ICR will be the one I prefer in the long run because of the position of the HUD.

The tested HUD’s in Formula 1 a while ago and they just took the drivers attention away from what they where doing on the track, there is a lag between focusing from looking at the track, hud, track that takes to long to refocus the eyes, I saw Carl Fogarty try something similar out on the road and whilst he said it was a nice idea it doesn’t work.
I think the issue is depth perception, if the can can get one to work whilst your looking at the road and can adjust to when your checking your dials then I may give one a go.

Smart helmets are a great idea in theory but the biggest thing that will prevent me from buying one is that all that expensive tech is glued to the helmet itself. That means that if you drop it, or are in a minor crash, the electronics will be fine, but you will need to replace all of it. Manufacturers HAVE to make this stuff modular. If something happens to the shell, or the rear camera, or the display, we need to be able to replace just that without having to drop serious $$$ for a whole new helmet.

OC- Definitely like the style of the helmet. I think it would grow on me. If the visor auto tints that would be awesome. I know that Bell make a helmet visor that does transition tinting and I wish more companies had that option so you do not have to change out visors for night riding. Excited to see your full review thoughts.

Man, I’d love something like that for riding an electronic unicycle. Wish I’d seen this earlier. I ordered wrist mounted (low tech) side mirrors instead.

OC: the idea is neat, but for me to consider it a "smart" helmet I'd need at least a spedometer, and maybe a compass. The back camera is a fantastic idea, but it seems like you have to really focus on it to see the hud.

I love smart helmets, makes my life much better and more enjoyable. Currently I have a sena momentum inc pro which is great but I just wish a few things were better and am always looking for a smarter better helmet.

I am all for the idea of a rear view camera for safety, I am curious if it records any video or if it is just displayed and gone. I love that you did an unboxing of a Cross helmet, while wearing a Ruroc ball cap.

I do want a smart helmet. I'm one that lost their money on the Skully. I've followed this thru the iterations. I've not purchased one waiting for more news and data. Definitely want a HUD and rear camera...along with all the other promised capabilities.

For that price it needs to have speed and navigation displayed on the HUD. Built in speakers Bluetooth connectivity to the phone as well as compatability with like pack talk and all that

you should test the speakers, so that the helmet could be online since there is already a lcd screen thus it will help a lot in navigating unknown terrain without looking at your cellphone. i saw a port there meaning it could be cellphone integrated.

I think I would be more worried about looking in the helmet camera/screen than using my mirrors and head checking, it would throw me off and could cause an accident, it is cool, but needs a fair bit more R&D before I would consider one over a normal helmet with an intercom(cardo ftw)
Add to the other distractions, with phones, gps, gauges and dials(newer bikes with modes etc) I think it could cause more harm than good to an inexperienced rider, and being such a small screen so close it could do a fair bit of harm to your eyes and cause a lack of concentration or fatigue, thoughts and opinions on who should or would be better off using one aswell?..

OC... Love the video as usual Chase! I like the idea of the rear camera. Could be a lifesaver at traffic lights for sure. Not too keen on the placement of the viewing screen though as like you said, you have to look up to see anything. I know as riders we have to constantly be scanning our environments for hazards but looking up is not normally a part of that. Style wise it's not really my cup of tea but I suppose it could grow on me. Also agree with you on the visor part. Just weird how there's no lip to be able to easily lift it up. Constantly having to touch the actual front part of the visor to lift and lower just allows for smudges galore. Do you know if they're still in the refining stages of this helmet or is this the actual finished design ready for production? There certainly is room for some improvements still.
