it could be from us knowing we need things like sugar back when we were out in the wild. we make room for things that could save our life later on. but thats just an idea. im no evolutionary scientist
@ProTayToe Gamer It's because sugar relaxes the muscle/nerves that are around the stomache. You'll feel less pressure which result in less of a full feeling. In other words the desert makes roomfor itself!
I love watching videos about the human body. Every time I do, I am reminded how amazingly complicated it is, and how it practically manages itself on its own!
I'd be interested to learn if there's a psychological aspect of hunger as well. I have food based PTSD and food insecurity, so I tend to unconsciously suppress minor signals of hunger until my blood sugar is lowered and I'm ravenous, and it feels like it's harder to stay full even with an otherwise filling meal.
I learn a lot from this channel and I love talking about these topics at dinner with my family. My parents don't speak english very well so I always tell them about these videos!
Try to eat at lower speed, maybe you can try to munch the food more. That’s what i always do, it helps to balance our diet and lower our food intake yet still feeling full
@@TEDEd Pardon me 🙋 , One thing from this subject { which is reflected in a comment on this video that's gotten over 8.5 thousand likes } is : Why/how then do we have room for dessert 🍨 🦧 ❓ 👨💼🤳🇦🇺🇳🇴
Japan has a term called, “Hara Hachi Bu”, meaning, “Eat until you are 8 parts (out of 10) full, or 80% full.”. It took me a while to understand when my body is 80% full, but the trick is this. As soon as you are done with your first serving of the meal, this includes desserts and drinks, (not a supersize meal, just a regular size meal you would receive at a casual restaurant), check... 1. If you can move around comfortably, twist your body side to side. 2. You are feeling some slight fullness but not too full that you can’t do number 1. 3. You don't have the hunger strike anymore. That's how I determine if I’m 80% full, and it has helped me control my weight ever since along with intermittent fasting.
I learned from this video that "adviser" and "advisor" are both acceptable spellings of the word. I also learned that the TH-cam comments spell check prefers "adviser". Great video!
you can feel the food entering in your stomach and moving through your intestines. Sometimes you will hear gurgling in your stomach when you eat. As you eat more your stomach expands and maybe you start to slow down with your eating and feel a little bit sleepy. At least that's how it is for me. Also the food starts to taste slightly different as you reach satiation. What once tasted amazing just tastes more ordinary or even not so good when you are full.
Your animation makes my body look so cute! I feel so safe and protected with an army of smiley face organs and hormones inside me! Unlike other videos that neglect to show the smiles and double down on the textures. I always feel iccy afterwards.
Great vid, but the animation for the Vagus nerve was wrong, it does not travel along the spinal cord, rather it goes directly to the brain stem. Otherwise being fully paralysed would be a death sentence.
1.13 is it just me that finds the stomach reaction really cute 😂 like the water fills and its like "Oh thats fast" and smiles then realizes what it is and like "wait. You kidding me?"
the greatest of TED-Ed is that you do not have to be a doctor or have a phd to understand the videos. And once you get the general idea, it is much easier to stand in the correct path of health, learning and self improvement
I’ve talked about this before but for all my life I’ve never known when I’m hungry and when I’m full. Normally I eat when everyone else eats or if it tastes good obviously. I can go without eating for many days but it is very unhealthy. I can’t recognize it. I hope this isn’t a very serious case. I doubt it.
Also issues such as depression can alter these feelings . I haven't felt hunger without a stimuli since middle school , by stimuli I mean food or marijuana which tricks you into thinking youre in starvation triggering what is most commonly known as munchies.
*Monica:* _Okay, you're telling me that you can eat almost an entire turkey in one sitting?_ *_Joey:_*_ That's right! 'Cause I'm a _*_Tribbiani,_*_ and this is what we do! We may be not great thinkers, or world leaders, we don't read a lot, or run very fast... _*_but damn it, we can eat!_*
Unfortunately, most of us stopped listening to our body and we can't recognize those signs anymore. Your body is smart, it knows what it needs and how much.
2:19 No wonder why I always feel full when I didn't eat much. I actually do eat slow. I always thought eating slow makes me less full. While I see my whole family eat faster than me and they can still eat.
can you explain why depressed people and who are under severe anxiety eat more and get full slower than normal people? by the way very beautiful animation!
It distracts them. Often ppl eat because they don't have anything to do. Simple example is - I am staying late on the PC, but I am bored from everything. I don't feel the need to sleep so I get to the fridge for a snack. Ofc I stopped that, but before I used to do it.
These illnesses can lead to mind cloudiness and confusion- people become out of touch with their body and metal states. In some ways I think it can also act as a sedative- blocks the other going ons in your head as you just lie down and deal with fullness and physical results of overeating

no. you are only full when the food starts going out the same end as it came in. up until that point you can keep eating.

If you eat while pooping you create a neverending cycle of pooping-eating-pooping.
How is that a cycle ? Are you eating your poop ? That would be the exact definition of what goes around, comes around. Now that's a cycle.
processing of your food intake takes time. you can't poop immediately after eating.
Álvaro Lopes not true but i always thought that when i was little
That's basically what we all are doing but it can't be called a never ending process
no one needs to know about that infomation
