Hey folks! As part of the leadup to The Last Jedi, this is one of three (yes three!) Star Wars episodes we are going to be releasing this week! Oh and you know what, let's throw in a bonus Incoming video just for the hell of it!
The Templin Institute : well you have to be fair now and do a full star trek in-depth analysis , I can see why do a star wars as the film is soon upon us , but it was nice to see original and fresh analysis
10/10 you did, and I'm grateful to you for it. I just love the way all the brilliant small-medium scifi lore and retro gaming channels are supporting each other lately. I see Spacedock below too... he's how I found your channel. Edit: I just binged about half of the entire library. Instasubbed!
+Jordan McDonald Channels like these are why the Star Wars community is stronger than ever. Not just Star Wars even. The love of all sci-fi is becoming more organized and Unified. Made by fans for fans. The way it should be... And is.
"Hope is too powerful for any regime to completely extinguish." Thanks for the flashback scenes with backstory from IV-VI. Adds more depth to the story. Nicely done!
Pity how, after they defeated the Empire, they went on to make more or less the same mistakes as the Republic. Mon Mothma actually dismantling over 90% of their military despite the fact that Imperial remnants were alive and organized. They never learn.
Mecha-san they tried to distance themselves from the way the Empire did things. The new republic should have diminished their military but removing 90% is waaaaaaay too much
I get that they want to show they are not the Empire and they have to focus on restoring/rebuilding all that was destroyed and that means reallocating funds which will mean diminishing the military but you still need a good army to protect your government from Imperial remnants not to mention the criminal elements who will try to take advantage of the post-War chaos. Seriously, it’s like this galaxy doesn’t learn from its own history but rather tries to forget it and deluded itself into thinking it won’t happen again. Realistically, I’d go as far as reducing the military down to 40% gradually as the money is carefully relocated to repairing the world’s ravaged by the Empire and all the civilians left homeless moved to better accommodations. But when I hear word of this First Order building up a military, I’d put a bit more funds back to the military to train troops.
In a way, it's a lot like real life. We have a bad habit of repeating some of the worst patterns and trends in history in the real world as well. I guess that makes their poor decisions somewhat more 'believable.'
9:13 first time i see that stormtrooper in the middle of the crowd. I love how your videos are talking about events we saw in the movies but in a more "historic" way. Great job as always !
If history lessons were taught like this in high school, going to school would be soooo much more exciting! Keep it up 👍!!!!!!!!! TEMPLIN INSTITUTE!!!!!!
After seeing so many Mon Cal ships in battle against them, I wonder what the Empire did in response. How did Mon Calamari keep producing more ships? Or were they formally detached from the Empire?
IT was a combo of the ships were originally built as passenger liners/freighters as a cover story, then switched to capital ships (which they'd been always intended to be) and also Mon Calamari declaring open revolt and that the empire was too obsessed with crushing the rebellion in one fell swoop to figure out how to find where the rebels were building and repairing/refueling their ships let alone how to win a guerrilla war
Your video's continue to impress with their high quality content, professional editing and beautifully spoken, accurate and informative commentary. Keep it up Templin, you deserve every bit of praise you receive and I can't wait for your next episode!
Correction, the destruction of DS2 did not take out a large part of the Imperial Navy. It served to to cut the primary head off the Imperial Hydra. Infighting and power grabbing were as much the reason for the eventual destruction of the Empire as was the killing of the Emperor. The Imperial Navy was still a formidable and dangerous force to deal with after the destruction of DS2.
I truly love these videos, hope to see on the Forerunner Ecumene and their time with the Ancient Human Empire of Halo, The Peacekeepers of Farscape, the United Citizens Federation of Starship Troopers, and Interstellar Alliance of Babylon 5, these are the ones I would like to see videos of.
How about the Stalkers from the STALKER series? They are a pretty interesting faction when you look at the Stalker code and the other factions around them.
STALKER would take alot more than just the loners.. It would be more interesting to cover them, aswell as Duty, Freedom, and the Monolith/C-Consciousness
You all make some of the absolute best videos about fictional universes on TH-cam! It would be great if you could do more in one Universe At A Time so we could watch them all at once
Absolutely love these videos! Might I suggest any, if not all, of the three factions in the StarCraft universe? They're very rich in lore. Keep them up! I'll be watching more!
Amazing and Brilliant to the highest degree and standards! The quality of each vid is seriously unparalleled. Heres to hoping this channel will never end!
You guys' videos are so good, that you rarely find a dislike on it. I think that the people who dislike are trolls. How in the world can you not like so good videos ?
There is only one thing obvious to the Battle of Hoth, is that while it is a strategic victory for the Empire in the capture of one prominent Rebel bases in the Galaxy, it's a tactical loss for the Empire. The Galactic Empire had several objectives, which were the destruction of the Rebel forces which attempted to evacuate the base, through effective blockade of the planet by the Imperial Navy, and the capture of key Rebel officers, including Luke Skywalker. The success of all, would have likely set the Rebellion for a total defeat, and a massive loss to the chain of command of the Alliance. In the end, the fall of Hoth became a temporary setback for the Alliance, as the Empire would fail in their key objectives to capture and decisively destroy the Rebel forces in Hoth. In an episode that would mirror the Miracle of Dunkirk in our timeline, the Rebels managed to retreat safely from Hoth, breaking the blockade by the Imperial Navy and withdrawing all key officers from the rebel base before the arrival of Imperial forces, which were tied down by Rebel resistance, this effect would have saved the rebellion much needed men and resources and kept alive their chain of command through the survival of the Rebel officers.
& ppl say Disney is crapping the Bed with Star Wars. The way you dug into the Canon & made this brilliant video is astounding. This was superb. It felt Epic & fun.
Never liked how Disney played the defeat of the empire. An organization as large as the galactic empire with hundreds of warships defeated in a year? In legends it took the new republic about 15 years after Endor to force a cease fire with the empire and reduced it to a rump state in the outer rim.
+the Templin Institute You forgot to mention that the Senators that opposed Palpatine formed the Delegation of the 2000 and early Rebellions and resistance groups were formed such as the Erased, and the Bellassa Eleven.
This synopsis lets us see the conflict between the Rebels and the Empire from a much more broad POV. For all intents and purposes, the Rebel Allaince should NEVER have won. They're enemy was stronger, more equipped, officers more experienced and many brainwashed into thinking the Empire was in the right. Heck, the battle of Endor was a setup that had evidently involved anticipating the Rebel's every move. If the majority of the Imperial Navy was there, its highly improbable the inhabitants of a single moon could overwhelm them. The biggest point in favor of this is the fact that the Empire was the evolution of a military industrial complex designed for the sole purpose of crushing disloyal militants. Really helps drive home Qui-Gon's belief that the Force guides the events and makes its will reality.
And after they had won, the Rebel Alliance's greatest heroes suddenly all turned to incompetent assholes. They thereby squandered all they had suffered and worked for and left the galaxy worse off than it had been in thousands of years.
I like the theme of your videos and the consistency you are sticking with it. Great work If you find the time and ressources to make a community-event, I would really recommend doing a Stellaris Match and then reporting on the political events which unfolded and how it all ended :)
What an awesome video by fare the best you have made and any other Star Wars lore video out there. Keep up the great work can’t wait till the next video you upload.
*Incoming Transmission:* "This is Mon Mothma from Chandrila, formerly a member of the Imperial Senate and now a wanted criminal. Persecuted like so many others for having expressed criticism against a tyrannical regime, that is holding itself accountable to no one. I am sending this message to all the resistance cells, freedom fighters and people of the galaxy, who are being oppressed by the Galactic Empire. One thousand years ago, a small number of space faring species learned from each other’s existence and decided to combine their resources and to establish a grand union, an interplanetary government for the sake of trade, cultural exchange, protection and most important: freedom. This was the birth of what would later be known as the Galactic Republic, the biggest power in the galaxy. And its founders knew that such power can only be wielded wisely by dividing it among the people. And for one thousand years, this democratic system ensured our freedom. I'm looking forward to the next two Star Wars episodes. As a suggestion though, I think a Doctor Who episode based around humanity, Gallifrey, the Daleks, or the Cybermen could be fun.
Fan art shows what Star Wars can be. Thrilling cyberpunk stories in Corruscant's lower levels, gritty war stories, grandiose exploration stories and more. So many missed opportunities. The Clone Wars was good because some stories really embraced it with corruption, horrid battles and acts of heroism. The Shadows of Umbara arch is better than basically any star wars movie.
Hope can not save them! Great work once again guys thanks for all the hard work I know the next to videos will be just as good (Pleaseeee tell me you're doing the Empire as one of them :) )
“Maybe it’s true, maybe fighting is useless. Perhaps it’s too late. But I know if I could do it again, I would wake up early and be fighting these bastards, from the start! Fight the Empire!” -Maarva Andor
For the Rebellion, screw the Empire, I should rader live in a corrupt government than a tyrannical one. Most of us live in America and it's corrupt but jet most of us live a decent life. 😉
While not a faction per-se, but a species, I'd love to watch a video made by you guys about the Nagai species from Star Wars Legends. I always considered them among the more interesting ones.
Saw Gerrera wasn’t wrong to execute imperials. He just believed diplomacy isn’t an option against tyranny, at least not until you beat them into submission.
This is beautiful, i looked at it for 66 hours now TBH it's kinda a shame how instead of negosheting with the empire so it's government will be reorganized into something batter or something like that i guess but instead they just wiped out the empire and rule the galaxy with no experience what so ever
Its great to see the rebellion get the love it deserves. There's been a growing level of toxicity among the #TheEmpireDidNothingWrong community and it's honestly scaring me.
Though I do think it is a joke, it is quite a coincidence that you hear #TheEmpireDidNothingWrong the same time that both sides of the political spectrum are becoming more authoritarian.
ARC, it's not a joke. Well, I'm sure some of them are. But this stuff is all over TH-cam and even some lifelong Star Wars fans I know have adopted the stance. It is definitely alarming, because it often comes from people who have grown up and begun to see the authoritarian actions of their own real-world governments as acceptable, and therefore can find no fault with the Empire but with the Alliance (usually condemning them as terrorists).
I enjoyed this. I am 70+ years and when Star Wars 1st came out I had the music on an eight track in a 79 Pinto station wagon. Cool, huh? The cool question was meant to be a joke..
You ever thought about making this channel more interactive and making something like a Test where the questions are based off knowledge from these videos? I'm just saying, it'd be fun because this channel feels a lot like a school.
They didnt fall right away tho, X1, a force sensative clone, who had a pretty high rank during The Dark Times, had the biggest piece of the Shattered Empire after Endor
Now that Im thinking about it, what was Leia’s official role in the original trilogy? She was officially “Princess” but unofficially a military officer and diplomat.
Just discovered your channel, great idea! Here are a few ideas for future videos, the galra empire from voltron, the harkonnen house from dune, gondor could be interesting and finally, please do cobra from gi joe.

Poor Biggs, man. He died keeping Luke alive in that trench, then gets forgotten in this video :(

There is only one thing obvious to the Battle of Hoth, is that while it is a strategic victory for the Empire in the capture of one prominent Rebel bases in the Galaxy, it's a tactical loss for the Empire. All hail Templin Institute. the true god of youtube for her videos are the best ones ever made.
Could you please do an Expanded Universe version of this video in the near future?
Probably your best video so far. 10/10.
Many Bothans died to bring us this video.
Hey, Larissa. Marc. First of all, nicely put together. Awesome. Been subscribed for a while now, and, like yourselves, i too am a huge star wars fan.
Fantastically researched and presented once again. Thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the hard work you put into these videos. I am catching up so that I can be ready for TLJ.
Awesome last phrase! Love it!
Excellent video.
And after they had won, the Rebel Alliance's greatest heroes suddenly all turned to incompetent assholes.
They thereby squandered all they had suffered and worked for and left the galaxy worse off than it had been in thousands of years.
Can you do the UAC from DOOM?
Btw, great video!
One of my favorite Templin videos.
I'd like to see more of the criminal elements of Star Wars, the Zann Consortium, the Black Sun, etc.
You guys should do the New Republic next! It’s pretty unknown to most, but is very interesting! Relates to the topic too.
And it was all for nothing. No Republic. No Jedi. Just more darkness and the Balance in jeopardy.
Guys, this is the best newcoming channel in TH-cam. Thank you!
Came here from Eckhardsladder and I am glad I did. This is just as beautiful as he said it would be
I like the theme of your videos and the consistency you are sticking with it.
Great work

Saw Gerrera wasn’t wrong to execute imperials. He just believed diplomacy isn’t an option against tyranny, at least not until you beat them into submission.
That was wonderfully done!
Another great video as always. Have you guys considered doing the Republic or the New Republic next? That’d be great
I would love to see the planetside 2 factions: new conglomerate, Terran republic, and the Vanu sovereignty
This is beautiful, i looked at it for 66 hours now
TBH it's kinda a shame how instead of negosheting with the empire so it's government will be reorganized into something batter or something like that i guess but instead they just wiped out the empire and rule the galaxy with no experience what so ever
Yes I've been waiting for a star wars video its good to get one and I love this channel so much
Wow! Great story 😳 someone should make a movie about it.
Its great to see the rebellion get the love it deserves. There's been a growing level of toxicity among the #TheEmpireDidNothingWrong community and it's honestly scaring me.
Angus Jameson I'm pretty sure its all a joke or some meme BS
Though I do think it is a joke, it is quite a coincidence that you hear #TheEmpireDidNothingWrong the same time that both sides of the political spectrum are becoming more authoritarian.
That's the problem with jokes. Keep telling them long enough and people will start to take them seriously and even go as far as believing them.
Both sides did some wrong actions, the Empire just did it harder, more often. and on a greater scale.
Can you guys do the New California Republic from Fallout?
This channel deserves way more subscribers
Outstanding video, guys.
Can’t wait until you tackle a faction from Gundam.
I enjoyed this. I am 70+ years and when Star Wars 1st came out I had the music on an eight track in a 79 Pinto station wagon. Cool, huh? The cool question was meant to be a joke..
Coalition of ordered governments next?
I would recommend Mandolorian history!
1:10 Love that "history and myth" line.
Just discovered your channel, great idea! Here are a few ideas for future videos, the galra empire from voltron, the harkonnen house from dune, gondor could be interesting and finally, please do cobra from gi joe.
Do you think that it would be possible to do a video on either the Coalition of Ordered Governments, or the Locust Horde at some point in the future?
