His mom is buried literally 30 ft from my grandmother’s grave. When my mother and i met him about 5 years ago we told him we would leave a few flowers for her because her grave was always so empty and could tell it hadn’t been visited often and he seemed gracious. Very nice humble guy. Glad he’s doing better with his life now.

Wow. Odds are, he still hasn't gotten over how the events unfolded and it is still too painful for him to revisit such period of his life. As he said, he was angry and confused...probably still is.

Touching and Deep nothing like a love between Mom and Son. No matter of certain things are never said. Mothers love their princes no matter what Champ or Bum.

Oscar, believe your mother loved you! Growing up as a Chicano and I believe many of us out there didn't get that " I Love You " from our beloved mothers. Unfortunately as generations go, living in certain conditions our parents not getting that same love it follows and creates a chain reaction. But as we sit and contemplate on our past, on how we can do better and the love we didn't get as We wanted, We can now brake that chain reaction and give it to our new generation to come. We learn that Open-Honest-Communication is the key to a better relationship. I as well lost my mother at a early age and feel your pain, stay strong and God always in front of us to guide us through this journey. Dios te Bendiga🙏🙏🙏

It seems that back in the 1970's and before, Mexican mothers raised their sons to be macho. To not cry. To suck it up. Oscar's mom did so, and so did mine.

All kids want from their parents is Empathy, Understanding,Guidance,Trust,Love. Not toys and materialistic shit that handicaps them emotionally bc they do carry that memory into adulthood. Kids always remember.

she did the most unselfish thing you can do to your family when you have cancer, she didn't want you to get distracted by it and i think your career would not be the same if she did

Disagree. A consequence of hiding it from Oscar was that he didn't have enough time to prepare himself emotionally for his mom's death. When it finally happened, it hit him much harder.
I would argue that she did the most selfish thing possible. She cared about his career but did not consider his feelings and emotional well-being as a person. It seems like a common theme with his dad too. They bred him to fight. They were raising a fighter and didn't care about the human.

Just recently viewed an interview with De la Hoya with Mike Tyson and he has still holds on to this emotional scars of his mother. Very sad. I hope Oscar finds peace.

have always watched Grahams interviews and enjoyed them but I dislike how abruptly some of them end at times. Especially this one, there is no closure. I want to hear more.

My dad knew de la hoya since he was a kid (my dad is 74). My dad said that he always saw him and his mom holding hands, walking home from school and other stuff. My dad also went to the same gym as his when de la hoya was in his teen years and everyone use to call him "mommys boy", in fact, that was his nickname in the gym, mommies boy. My dad also said that he had an opportunity to spar him but my dad was scared of him, even though he 20 years older than him. Another thing he told me was that when u see de la hoya looking up in his corner, he was begging his mom to give him the strength to do another round. At first when i learned about de la hoya, my dad was so obsessed with him and loved him and i never understood why until he told me

I completely understand. My mother was my number supporter. I’m so glad I expressed how I felt about her all the time.
I visit her grave to display my emotions whether good or bad. I miss her all the time.
My mother kept me in the dark, but I knew the truth despite her lies.
Her lies were so painful because I wasn’t ready for her to die. She will always be the most important person to me. I can’t wait to see her again. I’m looking forward to it.

Very dissapointing that he felt that his mom did not love him. If she did not say it but she showed it to him by always been very supportive.

    • @lilialvarado9106

He didn't say he felt she didn't love him. He says at 1:10 "she gave me a lot of love". That implies she did love him and show him love, but he regrets that she never said the words to him I Love You. Consequently, he never said the words to her, either, which he regrets as well. But he definitely did not say he felt unloved, just would like to have heard the words.
