  • I go a bit deeper on these toy instant print thermal printing cameras. If you have any questions post them in the comments. I also explore the idea of using a Phomemo or other thermal printer to get a similar look.
They are a lot of fun, and great for art journaling. These are what I've been using to make the images for my crankies.
I run after school art groups, I use these cams in the groups as well as for my own art journaling. I received many of these through the Amazon Vine program and bought others.

All prices listed are from the time I posted. Many of these have coupons, some have frequent price changes, keep an eye out for deals.
These two cameras are the same except one has a silicone case to protect it. The silicone case is in the shape of a pink unicorn.
Pink Unicorn Camera ($40): amzn.to/46Pf9KS Another pink unicorn cam ($40) amzn.to/3MELE6i
    Blue Plain Camera ($39): amzn.to/3Q8vxPe
This is another pink unicorn camera, the print quality is somewhat better and it takes slightly better photos ($40):
    amzn.to/46PbpsK
Another pink unicorn cam ($40): amzn.to/47CVrSs
This case will fit all of the above cameras and 3 rolls of paper plus some pens and stuff:
    amzn.to/3MhyagL
This camera prints similarly to the 2nd pink unicorn but is purple and yellow in color and has a shape clearly inspired by old Polaroid cameras ($15): amzn.to/3sdNhkA
Black Polaroid inspired camera ($40) amzn.to/47b7VAP
    I do not recommend these:
This camera is yellow and orange and is also shaped like an old Polaroid. It prints out at 4:3 which I like, but when it saves the images it stretches them to 16:9, so the images are distorted. If, like me, you hope to use the images on your thermal printer this is a no go. This one also has a flippy lens for selfies. ($36): amzn.to/3FzCHr2
Bulbous pink unicorn cam: amzn.to/3unVMKq This has the same issue as the one above.
Green dino cam: amzn.to/40Nzs9g This uploads fine but has a forced wait before it will print. It does have a selfie cam.
This case fits the purple or orange cams plus a few rolls of paper and a cord: amzn.to/3QABndP
This is the paper that I use. It’s cheap and is nice and glossy and has good contrast when printed on. It’s also thicker than some of the other papers I’ve used and doesn’t have a plastic core. ($14) amzn.to/3SdGWA8
This is the paper I bought for work, it’s much thicker and very glossy. amzn.to/3SzTp14
Colored sticker paper I use. amzn.to/47eQHTu

Dear Liz, thanks for your videos, I have enjoyed watching it and as an artist printmaker I am now inspired to use the camera for journaling too, however I bought one of these camera’s for my 6 year old, she loves it soo much and has used it loads since Christmas, now I think the ink has run out, so my question is how do we change the ink ? We have a DIY instant digital camera from Amazon, I can see the ink but on idea how to get it out and what one to replace it with? Many thanks Louise from London England

There's no ink just a bar that heats the paper in specific points. You can try to clean the heat strip with a q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol. But it might be broken. it could be that the paper is in upside down. Easiest fix is to flip the paper over, then try cleaning the heat strip.

Hello I have a similar camera that is a thermal printing camera I was wondering how has it held up since this review from three years ago? There were many reviews that said that the ink (used to print the photos) dont last long has that been the case for you ?
Thanks greetings from Brooklyn New york

It's not ink it's a thermal reaction, heat interacts with the chemical coating of the paper and turns black. Cheaper papers will fade for sure, but you can buy better quality papers rated for longer life spans. Phomemo has some rated for 20 years. These use the same sort of paper as cash registers, so the cheaper your paper is the less long it will last. I've had receipts in closed journals last 15 or more years but I've also had receipts saved for tax filing that fades in less than a year! I've got images from these cams that are in journals that are still going.

Hey, thank you for this video and the another one you made previously discussing other instant thermal printing toy cameras. I'm interested in buying one of these cameras for the same purpose as you: art. By the way, your art journal with these artworks over the prints is really amazing. I have a question that perhaps you can answer, since you've bought some models: Do these cameras have the option to print from a mobile app (in addition to instant photos), like these mini thermal printers? I ask because once I found a model of this type of camera on Aliexpress where they mentioned in the review section that it was also possible to send some photos from the mobile app. I didn't buy it at that time because I didn't like the model as much and recently I found another one that looks more like a classic camera, but I couldn't find information about this feature. Do the ones you bought have this functionality?

None of the ones I have can connect to a phone. I do use a phomemo printer that uses the same thermal printing style as these, but connects to my phone via BT. I know some of the more expensive versions of the cama can connect to a phone VIA BT but I've never had one that does it

@@comfortableshoesstudio Oh, yes. I'll take a look at the printer you mentioned. Thank you so much for responding!

@@NataliNuss it's about the paper you buy. The paper chemically reacts to the heat in the printer, there's nothing for fixative to fix. I have played with alcohol ink and markers on them and those either bleach the page out or turn it black. Looks for 10 to 20 year paper and it will last a lot longer than cheaper register style paper

Also none of them will last forever. Though I've had receipts in my art journals last 20 years and others that fade before I can file them with the IRS.
