I don't want to rush my kids but, yeah, I can't WAIT to be a senior woman! No more periods, cramps, menopause over (hopefully), and kids on their own--free as a bird! 💕🕊️ Enjoy yourselves for those still caring for kids or parents, we're cheering you on, you give us beautiful dreams to plan for!
100% well said. Same. And finally I’m 60yo and ready to go. And hopefully I find Barbs & Lulus along the way. I once read that our 3rd chapter…is all about getting to be truly ourselves. Eccentric , playful and deeply truly ourselves! Bring it on

Enjoy the life you have. I am 59 and when your kids are gone it is very sad. Well, guess that would be if your kids are awesome kids like mine. Many, many times every year I miss my kids being home. I envy you. I know its stressful but like childbirth you will forget the hard times.
Well quess what menapause goes on for years ive dealt with it since my 30s an now im 60s an still.
That's a great friendship. Good advise, "come out of your comfort zone". and "take your own healthy food to places".

I’m almost in tears watching you gals. I spent 9 years RVing my hubby serving as chaplains in RV resorts. We met the salt of the earth friends and now he’s gone and I’m in a brick house without an RV. I miss it so much. A van is what I need!!

This is so nice. When I retired last year, I moved to a different city where I didn't know anyone. I have of course met lots of nice people and now know many people but still have not made any close friends. This gives me hope that we can make good friends even as seniors.

Love this video. I downloaded so I could listen to Barb's comments about getting out of my comfort zone. I've been wanting to the road 5 years ago after my divorce. I havd a lot of fear of being victimized due to past trauma's but in a limbo because I really want to get out there. I have everything I need to go...it's just the fear. If I had one more person to be with me to do it I would not hesitate. Knowing there are people like you out there helps me. Like barb said if not now when? Im 58 now. I joined the group that you ladies are in before your video even ended plus a couple others. You are helping other women like me and hopefully someday we can all meet up.

I heard you fine in the wind. I love the interview. In all the videos I've watched, I've never heard anyone say the were from up in the New England area. I would love to talk to someone up here near CT, to ask questions and maybe see how much space you really have in a cargo van, campervan. I am a senior woman also, and want to talk about possibilities. I also like to bring my own food. Everyone eats inside their comfort zone. I hate having to ask what someone is cooking. Most people don't like you bringing your own. I want to hear the dinner table conversations, but I often just say that I'll be late so go ahead without me. I'm also in the same place as that curious lady who wanted to see your living space. I also don't have a van yet. Thank you for meeting with her. I know that curiosity. I'm living it. I've already been retired a year. Things are starting to get a little discouraging. But, I'm still searching. Prices for vehicles really went up the last couple of years. I'll need to keep a home base. I'm almost finished paying for huge vet bills, and house (finally after 30+ years), but not the charge card for the solar generator (I know I'll need that). I'll repurpose other things from the house for my vehicle. Money is really tight since retirement.
hi April!! sometime I too go to get-togethers after everybody eats. but I really don't have to. I don't want to ask what they are cooking, I don't want to rely on anybody else to get what I want/need. so I just bring my own. after a while, people just expect it and it would be strange if I came in without my tupperware container!! send me another message in the spring when I'm back in New England, I would be happy to meet up with you!!! Happy belated birthday!!! That's a projection of them being fearful for you, doesn't mean you're fearful for yourself. I'll be 60 in 6 months...we're 60 not 90, the only difference in my 60 being the new 30 is that my limbs may talk back a little more, menopause has made getting rid of weight a bit more challenging, and I may be a little more set in my ways 😉. Other than that the biggest perk, I've got some experiences and wisdom on my side, I could care less what folk think and my tolerance for the non tolerable/🐂💩 is "0"😆. I say pootoui to those who have written us off as if we're not intuitive enough to take care of ourselves. We are older not old, seasoned to perfection I'd say. Yea they may be stronger physically but danger is an equal opportunist and not a reason to sequester oneself.
I'm sure as we all have at this juncture of life, weathered many storms. Even in our fears we know we can push through because we've done it before at some point in our life. We just have to self talk our way to it. If it's something you'd like to do take baby steps, research, join groups online. My biggest advice take advice from others with a grain of salt having faith that you know what's right and best for you. That's not to say that some advice won't be good, just don't allow it to be YOUR mind, YOUR decision maker.
Wonderful interview with both of you. I’m curious to know what kind of van Barb has and or if she would give us a tour. I’m a senior without a van as of yet -exploring my options

Hi Lulu and Barb. I’m from upstate New York and have been setting up my Toyota Sienna minivan to do some camping. I am married for 50 years and my husband no longer wishes to travel and camp. He has no problem with me venturing out on my own. I am interested in doing some closer trips this spring and summer. I’m very interested in the scenic highway along Martha’s Vineyard, cape Cod and up the coast to Acadia National park in Maine. I do not like crowds and heavy traffic so I will be going as close to off season as possible while still having some decent weather. If you are doing some meetups or travel in the northeast or New England I would love to meet you both.

Martha’s Vineyard is one of my favorite places. October is lovely there. It was always my “restore my soul” week.
Acadia is breathtaking, Schoodic Point is on the mainland and north of Mount Desert Island and not to be missed. The quiet side of Mount Desert Island near Bernard is away from the crowds but easy to access Acadia and Bar Harbor. Spent several summer vacations there.
I hope we can meet up. Wishing you safe travels and a joyful journey.

Oh my I loved listening to you both. I will be so glad when I find the van I want. My mini van just isn’t going to work for my. I when out and put my cot in and tried but I can’t get on my knees to get in and out of it. Had both replaced some time and ago so I get around very well. But my heart is out on the road. Miss driving a truck but at 68 just not going back to it. Lol I can’t wait to get out and meet people like minded.

Loved this! And, so glad you two found each other and connected, these kinds of friendships are just the best. Talking about food, I am visiting a friend here in Az. and she is very understanding with my diet and lets me cook my meal in the van and then I bring it in and eat with her and her partner. I have to eat gluten free and dairy free or take lactose pills and I don't eat meat except for occasional salmon. It's so nice when people aren't offended when I only eat my own cooking. I hope all the solo women travelers out there get a chance to connect with like minded women and be able to create friendships and experiences to nuture and help one another navigate this road of life. Thanks so much for sharing your conversation.

I figure that if people are offended when I only eat my own cooking, I know it's not me that is being offensive, there is absolutely nothing offensive about that at all, if someone is offended, they have a story they are telling themselves about what it means if I eat their food, like someone they are more special or a good cook or whatever. What's missing in today's electronic society is person to person communication. Unfortunately the new generation don't know that cultivating True friendship means curbing your selfishness and to paraphrase " giving/taking " instead of constantly taking. The younger generation are really missing out!
Wasn't their a Bing Crosby and Bob Hope collaboration song about the theme of friendship or was it Dean Martin and the 6 Amigos (Frank Sinatra et al.)? Anyone remember?

I want to do this, too! I can only take small trips to or with family for now or my husband freaks out. And I eat weird, too! Vegan, no added sweeteners, avoiding oil as much as possible. Eating out just does not work.
