Love the bug screen. You could use some of the extra fabric to make a screen for your side door so you have some cross ventilation. When you shorten your screens you could sew in a few fishing weights on the bottom of each screen.

Exactly Great idea fishing weights-- I would not cut them too much because the wind will really pick that up. Lulu will figure it out she's so "Smaat" Boston accent uses No letter "R" ♥ Lulu's updates really look forward to them.

A couple fishing weights on the bottom hem might be a good idea. That’s what my mom did with house curtains.
You might be able to tack some of that rubber slid stuff on the bottom outside of your kitchen containers so if you wanted you could still pull them down to get into.
Your van is so comfy! Thanks for sharing!

Lulu... just a suggestion....I would put another dowel underneath your countertop, but place it 3/4 to the back. I think the wood could warp in that location over time. Im thinking of what happened with your lattice underneath the bed. I'm no carpenter so I honestly dont know if the wood would warp or not but my thinking is, you want the resistance to be balanced...As always, love you and your videos and I love love love your van. You honestly have the best built mini van, and I have watched a lot of van builds!

Hi Lulu, hailing from Connecticut. You can spray paint four washers black (or purchase them black) and super glue them evenly spaced to the top side of your bumper. Sew in four magnets to the bottom of your netting and now they can cling to the washers. Simple and it works. Your welcome, LOL.

Hi Lulu. Just a tip on the bug screen. I did the same thing and let it hang down. Had a situation while parked in that I was laying down, (bed is across the back) I watched a mouse climbing up the curtain! Then I thought about the bugs that might climb up. Think ants or roaches. I know that if they really want to get in they will find a way but I was totally weirded out. I can't use my back door as an entrance because of the bed so I sewed a curtain rod pocket to slide a thin curtain rod into. It had enough weight to hold the curtain in place so the wind won't blow it open. My curtain stays up full time so it is totally on the inside of the van. I also have lace curtains on all the other windows. It"s so pretty!

On my bug screen on the back of my NV 200 , I used a very sheer curtain , I made a hem in the bottom big enough to thread a small chain through the hem and it weights it down enough to not blow in the wind. It was a chain like you could use for a child’s swing.

My suggestion for your bug screen: shorten the bottom so the finished product won’t drag on ground. Hem the bottom, no pleats, and add weights in the hem. Add ribbon or other something to stiffen it a little. If it’s touching the ground the wind will cause holes in the bottom of the netting because of rubbing on the ground.

Hey Lulu... my netting similar idea to yours...has fishing lead weights along hem to hold down ... works pretty well. I have sewn in hem, magnets along sides where I know they contact with vehicle saves you having to place them everytime...less risk of dropping magnets and loosing them in dirt

Thank you so much for sharing your dietary plan. I too bought a mosquito screen that goes over the bed to put over my windows. Love that you made do by adding the lace that when you ran out of ribbon. Someone mentioned fishing weights. Flathead washers sewn (hand sewn if needed) or glued between more ribbon at the bottom. They do make drapery weights. Your candidness is a delight. Save travels. Looking forward to the next video.

Hi Lulu! You’ve done so much so quickly! The curtain (mosquito netting) is gorgeous. Looked like a wedding dress when it was on your lap! Too long and you’ll get ants and creepy critters! Would paint the dowel red to help it disappear. Looking forward to your Berkey video. No rush! ❤️💚❤️💚❤️ Winter is a great time for reflection here on the coast of Maine… and no bugs😁 Warm weather is overrated. I’ll be changing my tune next month when temps drop to 10 below zero☃️

  • @JL-nb3dh
    @JL-nb3dh 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Lulu, I wonder if alien tape would work between the two boards instead of nuts and bolts to hold down the board by your Berkey. This way the bolts won't bother your eye. You can sew fishing weights or large washers into the bottom hem of your mosquito net to weigh it down. A challenge - how about a screened room off the side of your van? It could be tall enough to be able to sit outside in a chair and big enough to fit two chairs. You can use the extra mosquito netting for the roof and side walls. You can attach the two inner corners to the roof of your van. The outer corners can be supported by poles that extend from the roof or supported with poles that stick in the ground. Perhaps that's a project for next year.

    • @cherylmanes9768
      @cherylmanes9768 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

LuLu- don't you have an awning of some kind that you attach to your van? Maybe use the extra netting to add sides to the awning to create an outside screened room?

Hi Lulu, I’d trim it a little on the bottom but, I like it long enough so it will look shabby chic, kinda romantic style and that way you can alway trim it more if you don’t like it that long.
Remember, it’s like cooking in a microwave, you can always over cook but you can never undercook , try the bug screen different ways before you cut it all off just to be sure.
I also love the bug covers for your bowls, that is ingenious.
I too am working on my van I found a piece of furniture at my Exquisite Store..As My Mother always called it, AKA, the Thrift store and plan on using it as. My kitchen but it is about an inch too long so I am having a guy trim it down and hopefully next week so I can load up some of my kitchen stuff in the van . I won’t have everything finished completely in my van before the Florida Meetup but when I get there I can see what works best for me and tweak it as I go.

Here's a suggestion for what to do with the bottom of your insect screen. Sew a pocket in each panel at the length you decide works best. Use two dowel rods (each a little longer than half the width of that area) and insert them into that pocket to keep the panels from being caught in breezes. Another thought is to run weighted drapery tape through the pockets. They would afford flexibility when separating the panels to access the back of your van.

Hi Lulu, for the mosquito net, what about attaching a couple of short lengths of curtain rod to hold the bottom rigid on the back of the van? Would not need to be as long as the entire end, but would require a seam to hold in place at the bottom of the netting. Will be enough to stop it blowing around. Love your channel. Informative and entertaining. Thanks for taking us on your journey, Fiona from Ballarat Australia.

I like Jackie's Idea for the fishing weights. They don't have to be the big ones. Smaller ones would work so its not too heavy. I made one similar for my van from the screen door thats made for houses. I just cut it to the length of my van door and took the other magnets from the bottom half and slipped them on the sides. Have you thought about sewing the magnets on the sides so they are always with the Screen?

Sew ribbon on the sides with magnets inside. Then you can't misplace or lose them.

    Hi Lulu!!
To secure bottom of mosquito net, use velcro sticky back straps.
    Ace Hardware, 4 straps per page, white 3 1/2in x 3/4 inch.
    Holds upto 5 lbs.
Yes, trim the bottom, too long right now.
Safe trails to you from FL.

Put a weight in the bottom to keep it straight and down and it won't catch a wind. Maybe a series of SMALL round dowel rods. Sew them into the hem. Like a curtain rod. Maybe one on each side. Not any weight too heavy though because your magnets at the top won't hold up.

On your netting, maybe you could put small rocks to keep it in place and you can put them away till you need them again

How about a small adjustable kitchen rod on the bottom!? When placing on the bumper you can use the tension to keep in place…wall to wall. If not too windy it would be added weight to hang below the bumper.

Idea for the curtain in the back, 1 use rocks on the bumper to weigh it down.. I would love one my van is the same size. #2 sew magnets in the bottom for weights and they may attach under the bumper?? It's so pretty.

Weights on the bottom of your bug curtain. Shorten it so the weights rest on the bumper so it isn’t pulling too much on the top.

Lulu, re curtains... find a few heavy metal bits e.g. nuts, bolts, old screws. Create a little pocket out of fabric or wide ribbon and sew them on the bottom corners and middle of the curtains. The weight will help keep the curtains from flying away. There's also outdoor table cloth weights that clip on the bottom of the tablecloths so they don't fly away. I bought mine from the Australian version of your dollar store. ❤

You could stick a metal ribbon on to the edge of the black thing and use magnets like at the top.

You get magnet strip for the bottom of curtains that give them the weight the curtain shops should keep it.

    Hi Lulu,
You could try sewing 2/3/4 coins in a hem at the bottom of mosquito net to weight it 👍

Sew a seamed pocket and stuff a rebarb or heavy metal yardsticks in that seam. Just an idea

Drapery weights come by the yard that you can sew into the hem of your net. Might help with the wind.

You could put weights in a hem across the bottom which should stay in place if you have wind.
