On my bug screen on the back of my NV 200 , I used a very sheer curtain , I made a hem in the bottom big enough to thread a small chain through the hem and it weights it down enough to not blow in the wind. It was a chain like you could use for a child’s swing.
That lace netting for the back is genius! If you put a couple of magnets at the bottom the weight would keep the wind from catching it. So much fun that one!
I received my Sears Kenmore sewing machine for my 18th birthday in 1978. I made my own wedding gown, as well as several other wedding gowns, prom dresses and many many bridesmaids dresses. What a workhorse!
Use alien tape to attach black washers or pieces of metal bar that you paint black to your bumper. Then sew a ribbon on the bottom and sew in magnets. Easy and won't be noticeable. 0:07
I agree with using some kind of pocket at the bottom of your screens to add weights to. It will keep the curtains hanging straight and probably not be affected by wind unless it’s really brisk!
Hi Lulu. Just a tip on the bug screen. I did the same thing and let it hang down. Had a situation while parked in that I was laying down, (bed is across the back) I watched a mouse climbing up the curtain! Then I thought about the bugs that might climb up. Think ants or roaches. I know that if they really want to get in they will find a way but I was totally weirded out. I can't use my back door as an entrance because of the bed so I sewed a curtain rod pocket to slide a thin curtain rod into. It had enough weight to hold the curtain in place so the wind won't blow it open. My curtain stays up full time so it is totally on the inside of the van. I also have lace curtains on all the other windows. It"s so pretty!
I got my Sears Kenmore sewing machine in 1975 as an early h.s. graduation gift from my parents. It is still going strong and I love it! Nothing fancy needed here either
Thank you so much for sharing your dietary plan. I too bought a mosquito screen that goes over the bed to put over my windows. Love that you made do by adding the lace that when you ran out of ribbon. Someone mentioned fishing weights. Flathead washers sewn (hand sewn if needed) or glued between more ribbon at the bottom. They do make drapery weights. Your candidness is a delight. Save travels. Looking forward to the next video.
The updates are the best. I am glad you got a wool blanket. I think that will do the trick. Also, the bug screen is the best. It fits with the rest of the van. Good job on that.
After you cut your screen fabric where you want it, hem it and get a couple of packs of picnic table cloth weights. They clip on and will hold it in place. They are heavy. Love what you have done with your van. Happy travels.
Hi Lulu, hailing from Connecticut. You can spray paint four washers black (or purchase them black) and super glue them evenly spaced to the top side of your bumper. Sew in four magnets to the bottom of your netting and now they can cling to the washers. Simple and it works. Your welcome, LOL.
Re: Curtains. I like them puddled on the bumper. Get bungy to wrap about the bumper to hold it. Seems like it will be gorgeous looking out through it. It's beautiful. Good job!
Thank you for the update ...more great enhancements! ❤🚐 Some great suggestions on the netting in the comments, which looks lovely (so creative!) ...as others suggested, mine was going to be a tension rod at the bottom, that can easily be stowed when not in use. BTW, you know how you like to say ya don't like when s#it bothers your eye? ...one suggestion (I noticed at 18:49 on the video) ...is to paint black, the silver L-brackets and screws at bottom of the Berkey stand, to match the L-bracket & screws at bottom of counter next to it, which you just painted black. ...just a suggestion.🥰🤗
Lulu is the definition of true "Yankee Ingenuity" -- My Grandmother knew how to do everything Born in 1921, she taught me well - for the older New England generations it was called Yankee Ingenuity. (Northerners) (not the sports team) I just love her new ideas, there's always a way to solve anything that comes up. SO Much FUN!!!🌴
Wow, you are a woman after my own heart!!! Your seeing projects are fantastic, giving me future project!! And your back door screen is perfect!! I'm going to try it with fishing weights sewed in bottom!! I love having the back doors open when in TX but those fly's are awful!! Great idea!!
Hi Lulu! Your van- home is exquisitely beautiful!, joyful colors open avenues of eye pleasure! I am in VA and just bought a Chevrolet express van that seats 7…the last row slides open like a bed…! I have no clue on how to transform the van in an intelligent and gracious space! I love the simple beauty of aggregating pretty pieces of small furnitures rather than having it customized….I naturally fear to start the conversion on my own as I am solo 72 and never built a thing.. Let me know if we can sometimes after the greeting season, communicate..! Have a wonderful Christmas and a joyful and happy New Year! Nathalie
hello Nathalie!! congrats on your new van! that's very exciting!! if you've never built anything, check out youtube to help you with any project. I will certainly be available to communicate with you and help in any way that I can!! thanks for writing!! Lulu 😊
Instead of cutting the bottom off, turn it up several times so that it comes just a bit below the bottom of the bumper. Sew the folded over portion into a heavy hem. That way you still have the weight to hold it in the breeze.
A couple fishing weights on the bottom hem might be a good idea. That’s what my mom did with house curtains. You might be able to tack some of that rubber slid stuff on the bottom outside of your kitchen containers so if you wanted you could still pull them down to get into. Your van is so comfy! Thanks for sharing!
Lulu... just a suggestion....I would put another dowel underneath your countertop, but place it 3/4 to the back. I think the wood could warp in that location over time. Im thinking of what happened with your lattice underneath the bed. I'm no carpenter so I honestly dont know if the wood would warp or not but my thinking is, you want the resistance to be balanced...As always, love you and your videos and I love love love your van. You honestly have the best built mini van, and I have watched a lot of van builds!
MissLulu your van is perfect ready for your long Florida trip,I’m excited to see your journey as you share it with us as you go and I appreciate you for taking us along with you. ❤
I love the netting and weights in the hem would be great. But they are way to long, and I know how you don’t like messes in your van. Not to mention ants or other critters climbing the netting. Would be great on your side doors too. Love the changes you have made. Can’t wait to see the next video.
I didn’t want to scroll through everything to see if someone already said this, but if you so magnets in the bottom, like you did the top as weights, then you could have it shorter and still solve the window problem. I would so more magnets along the bottom, then you put on the top, it would create enough weight to hold the curtains in the wind.
Lulu, great job on the bug screen. I made one last year for my mini van from a hanging bed canopy netting. It worked beautifully. Looking forward to your adventures in Florida. Maybe a trip down for a winter meet up.
You can sew metal washers into the hem to add weight. That way, the wind won’t blow the bottom of the curtain into the sand and water puddles. Actually, you won’t have to worry about mosquitos in Florida. They’re all at my house in Venice. I just got three bites while cooking in my kitchen. They LOVE me.
I love how you did the bug screen. I use the same fabric but do not sew, therefore mine is duck taped. I am excited for your upcoming trip. I want to journey to Florida so am going to be watching where you go and how you do it during the busy season.
Love the bug screen. You could use some of the extra fabric to make a screen for your side door so you have some cross ventilation. When you shorten your screens you could sew in a few fishing weights on the bottom of each screen.
Exactly Great idea fishing weights-- I would not cut them too much because the wind will really pick that up. Lulu will figure it out she's so "Smaat" Boston accent uses No letter "R" ♥ Lulu's updates really look forward to them.
You could sew a “lead line” which is a road with weights that you can get by the foot at a marine supply store. You could also sew some rugged (old denim, canvas) fabric on the bottom part to make it more durable.
Lulu - for the bug screen - you could cut the length a bit - then sew a piece of cloth along the bottom and enclose a couple of washers or “weights” along that bottom row so that it stays put along the top of your bumper. I hope this makes sense.
Hi Lulu!! To secure bottom of mosquito net, use velcro sticky back straps. Ace Hardware, 4 straps per page, white 3 1/2in x 3/4 inch. Holds upto 5 lbs. Yes, trim the bottom, too long right now. Safe trails to you from FL.
I like Jackie's Idea for the fishing weights. They don't have to be the big ones. Smaller ones would work so its not too heavy. I made one similar for my van from the screen door thats made for houses. I just cut it to the length of my van door and took the other magnets from the bottom half and slipped them on the sides. Have you thought about sewing the magnets on the sides so they are always with the Screen?
I was thinking the same thing on fishing weights. I also thought of a tension rod at the bottom. It would be easy to store when not using. You could put it behind cabinets.
About the dowel between your drawers. Maybe a thin piece of wood the depth of the drawers. That would support the back part too. You could just glue it in. No thicker than the thickness of the dowel you are using now
I’m excited as you are Miss Lulu just watching you doing all this updates in your van I’m looking forward to your Florida trip and your wonderful journey and most of all thanks for sharing your experience with us.❤
Just a thought Miss Lulu you can open a new business selling all this brilliant products you made available to people like me who really like 👍 it. I don’t even have the van yet but I really like all the ideas you shared, it makes me want to get my van sooner. But on another thought you would be busy as a business woman and would miss the life you are enjoying right as the moment. I don’t think you like that.
For weight at the bottom, perhaps a few hinged pieces of wood that would fold up to travel, but could unfold and provide a length across the bumper which could weight down the netting.
Hey Lulu... my netting similar idea to yours...has fishing lead weights along hem to hold down ... works pretty well. I have sewn in hem, magnets along sides where I know they contact with vehicle saves you having to place them everytime...less risk of dropping magnets and loosing them in dirt
Can't wait till 'we' get on the road again! Love Ya, Miss Lila
Use extra small dot pillowcase fabric to add length to favorite big dot, full size pillowcase. 🎉
On my bug screen on the back of my NV 200 , I used a very sheer curtain , I made a hem in the bottom big enough to thread a small chain through the hem and it weights it down enough to not blow in the wind. It was a chain like you could use for a child’s swing.
I was thinking fishing weights, but chain is a good idea too.
That's a Fantastic Idea!!
You might also try a heavy rope inside the hem of the bug net
I was thinking about using the chain also.😊
A hardware store should have the light weight chain and can cut it to fit the width of the van.☹️
What a workhorse!
what a cool story!! yes, this machine is a beast!!
Bug screen at back door is something I want to do. T.Y. ❤
Its just those little adjustments and tweaks that just make life much better more relaxing and enjoyable
Use alien tape to attach black washers or pieces of metal bar that you paint black to your bumper. Then sew a ribbon on the bottom and sew in magnets. Easy and won't be noticeable. 0:07

thanks so much!!! 💕

Bravo! All your fixes. Love your beautiful bug screen. Perfect!
I simply ADORE all your creations !! What a delight you are !! 🎉😊
Your van is amazing love how it looks ❤❤❤❤

No problems with sound or watching!
The van is looking beautiful. I just love it.
Don't forget stamps for envelopes
always brought stamps, just forgot envelopes!! 😊
Appreciate meal breakdown very helpful and easy to follow. Safe travels and van tips helpful
Genius covers❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great ideas. Looks great
The updates are the best. I am glad you got a wool blanket. I think that will do the trick. Also, the bug screen is the best. It fits with the rest of the van. Good job on that.
Excited to go along with you.
So clever! So wonderful! So awesome!

I was just gonna suggest sewing washers for weight at the bottom lol
Sew a ribbon down the sides with magnets attached.
Sew a ribbon down the sides with magnets attached.
What a beautiful home!!! And no mortgage that's the best part ❤❤❤❤
Re: Curtains. I like them puddled on the bumper. Get bungy to wrap about the bumper to hold it. Seems like it will be gorgeous looking out through it. It's beautiful. Good job!

Curtain idea: cut off some length, then sew a pocket at the bottom of each curtain for a dowel rod. Adds weight and rigidity. Safe travels!
BRILLIANT IDEA!!! The lace food covers are amazing! Kudos!!!👏🙌
Making my Lulu grocery list (just found your meal plan in description ) thank you, For your positive encouragement !!!
So clever !!!
Your space is small but you make it look bigger because you are so organized.
Enjoyed this episode as I’ve enjoyed them all so - Merry Christmas, my friend & I look forward to your next adventure! Happy trails!
Lulu I have a Sears Kenmore sewing machine from when I was 19 and I wouldn’t trade it in for a new one. It is reliable and works for me❣️
The lace curtains were a very good idea!
The netting screen is Genius !
a chain in the hem weights it down
For your back sheers use a tension rod and put a hem on the bottom. Only issue is the tension rod. Tuck it by your bed.
Ha, I was going to suggest the same! 😀👍
Love your updates. I'm excited for your trip. God bless from the bootheel of Missouri.
You have come up with some clever ideas once again.
That looks so good. You could sew weights at that bottom, that would control the netting from blowing around. Have a great day.
Love and peace from Australia as always Lulu 🦘😘

I'm so happy you enjoy my videos!! 💕
You will get tired of puddling each time the wind blows or a mouse takes adv. Great work and ideas🎉
I loved my Kenmore!!!!

What a great idea for the screen curtain! I have been trying to hang a curtain with a rope in the hem. I am putting in magnets after pleating👍🏻😊
I have also used a small chain in the hemline to hold curtain down
You are the best …Lulu ! great screen!

Nice changes! Yahoo 😊
I like the bag idea for cooling.❤
Put weights on the bottom of the curtain so the wind won’t blow it.
Hear you loud and clear Lulu.
Instead of cutting the bottom off, turn it up several times so that it comes just a bit below the bottom of the bumper. Sew the folded over portion into a heavy hem. That way you still have the weight to hold it in the breeze.
great suggestion! and that is exactly the suggestion my son had after he filmed me on this video. after we finished filming he suggested that!! 😊
I have had a similar situation where I sewed little pockets into the bottom hem and added washers from the hardware store.
I agree…shorten the netting, add a wide hem and put narrow pvc tubing or flexible trim in the hem. One piece for each side❤️😅
The Berkey looks awesome and all your upgrades
A couple fishing weights on the bottom hem might be a good idea. That’s what my mom did with house curtains.
You might be able to tack some of that rubber slid stuff on the bottom outside of your kitchen containers so if you wanted you could still pull them down to get into.

Yes, great idea or I was thinking sew in some washers
The lace covers for cooling OMG genius and the overlap on your bug net just makes sense. 😍
@@melissapattison6431 yes! I was thinking the same using several extra large washers spaced out along the bottom edge and sewn in like the magnets
Put magnets at bottom to weight it or close it…can you superglue mini “plates” at bottom or on plastic?
I love the netting and weights in the hem would be great. But they are way to long, and I know how you don’t like messes in your van. Not to mention ants or other critters climbing the netting. Would be great on your side doors too. Love the changes you have made. Can’t wait to see the next video.

Lulu, great job on the bug screen. I made one last year for my mini van from a hanging bed canopy netting. It worked beautifully. Looking forward to your adventures in Florida. Maybe a trip down for a winter meet up.
I hope you make to down for one of the meetups! 😊

Actually, you won’t have to worry about mosquitos in Florida. They’re all at my house in Venice. I just got three bites while cooking in my kitchen. They LOVE me.
You could make one for your side door so breeze blows through
I have screens for the two front windows, plus the maxxair fan to open. so those should do the trick!!!
I love how you did the bug screen. I use the same fabric but do not sew, therefore mine is duck taped. I am excited for your upcoming trip. I want to journey to Florida so am going to be watching where you go and how you do it during the busy season.

it's so fun!! enjoy your process!! 😊

Hem it up. Use magnets as drapery weights and wrap fabric around a couple of bricks to keep the wind from grabbing it.
Love your mosquito netting! When you hem the length, add curtain weights to the bottom. Easy-breezey!
Looks lovely.❤
Maybe add magnets at the bottom just for weight
Hi, Lulu. For your back curtain, I'd put a wide hem to keep the weight but keep it off the ground and add some weights to the corners.
Vintage Kenmore sewing machines are great, all metal innards, will sew forever if well cared for.
Plastic cutting board thin flexible put it on one side of cooler when you need to cut squash just skoot down and use top of cooler as work surface
Drapery weights come by the yard that you can sew into the hem of your net. Might help with the wind.
Yes, that would be perfect!😂🎉
I like Jackie's Idea for the fishing weights. They don't have to be the big ones. Smaller ones would work so its not too heavy. Your van is my very fav 😍
Fabulous!!😎
Double Sided Velcro tape for Netting situation 🎉
I was thinking the same thing on fishing weights. I also thought of a tension rod at the bottom. It would be easy to store when not using. You could put it behind cabinets.
Idea (maybe) - trim to your desired length and either sow in or glue on a few magnets for weight for wind resistance.
Love your netting , maybe sew magnets along the sides and at bottom, the bottom would become weights as well
On second thought something you can tuck it in to probably better sorry been sick that's all can come up with hope it helps❤❤❤❤
About the dowel between your drawers. Maybe a thin piece of wood the depth of the drawers. That would support the back part too. You could just glue it in. No thicker than the thickness of the dowel you are using now
I’m excited as you are Miss Lulu just watching you doing all this updates in your van I’m looking forward to your Florida trip and your wonderful journey and most of all thanks for sharing your experience with us.❤

yeah, I don't want a job!! lol

Hey Lulu... my netting similar idea to yours...has fishing lead weights along hem to hold down ... works pretty well. I have sewn in hem, magnets along sides where I know they contact with vehicle saves you having to place them everytime...less risk of dropping magnets and loosing them in dirt
You could spray glue the nonslip stuff on bottom of the drawers..in case of bumpy canyon tracks!
You can get magnets in strips. Not for the magnetic function, but for the weight. They could be sewn into the bottom.
