On the hornet its possible, since both engines are close together, in an f14 it wont works since both engines are far apart. That why the high AOA problem on the A variant needed to be fixed, since high AOA will block air from the tf130 engines and will cause a flatspin, f15 and f18 are great for split throttles. F14, no matter what variant it wont work
@@RYDER-su3kx I’m not following. If the engines are spaced further apart then the torque the from the difference in thrust will be greater than if the engines were spaced closely together. In addition, MiGs and Sukhoi fighters have very good AoA despite using engines that are spaced apart.
@@jackzhang8677 migs and sukhois have great intlet design and engines that doesnt block airflow during high AOA, f14 had bad intlet design and bad engines that when it does high AOA, the airflow going through the engines will get blocked and one of the engines will not work since they are not getting air, so since left engines is down and right engine is still on, plus the slow speed you get from critical AOA you will flatspin Edit: also comparing an f14a to a mig and sukhoi is like comparing metal to rock, both are on the same department but have different designs and purposes
I feel the problem with split thrust on the FA26 specifically is that the engines are so close that turning one off changes the center of thrust negligibly, now on a kestrel, that could work, but you could always just thrust vector for that

honestly: in dcs i've done multiple times, from day 1 tomcat release on 2019, so much more before the top gun release. Honestly, with a bit of practice (not specifically for that maneuver) to gain some decent sensibility on the aircraft controls, is a decent move if you want to roll fast. Surely not a defensive maneuver, but an aggressive one if you have altitude advantage and you can gain energy back rapidly. A good stick and rudder management is all you need. And of course the brain to use it in a non suicidal way, or for defend against someone on your tail.
Just a suggestion that I want to see someone try since I don’t have the game or the pc needed for it, when a missile is locked on to you, try turning off your engines, I’m pretty sure that they track you using heat so maybe try that please
